Sony Pictures To Make ‘Vacancy’ Prequel
This year’s Vacancy was a horror film that a lot of people missed out on due to the fact it opened right before all the big blockbuster summer hits this year, and due to it’s A-list comedic star, Luke Wilson who many thought didn’t belong in a horror film. (Although, I felt he did a great job in ‘Vacancy’ as the heroic and average joe blow husband)
Recently Sony has released another production company called ‘Stage 6,’ and will be producing a prequel for the under-seen horror flick as well as other films.
ShockTillYouDrop gives us this:
Titles currently on the slab include a Vacancy prequel, Alex Turner’s The Stone House, Thomas Jane’s Dark Country, The Lodger (now starring Alfred Molina) and a third Starship Troopers film with Casper Van Dien and Jolene Blaylock. Stage 6 with shepherd about ten to fifteen flicks a year budgeted between $1-10 million.
Although, I really liked ‘Vacancy,’ I think a prequel for the film is as pointless as last year’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Everybody is going to know what happens. Obviously everybody in the prequel has to die, because the antagonists in the first film didn’t perish until the end of the movie. I remember sitting in the theatre last year for TCM:The Beginning and feeling really bad and dirty. I kept thinking to myself, ‘Why the f*ck am I here watching this morbid sh*t? Obviously, everyone is going to die in this movie, and I’m sitting here watching everybody get tortured for entertainment?!’
I think they should leave this film alone. It’s a stand alone film and that’s how it should stay.

I was a fan of Vacancy. Despite some cliched set-up, it was a solid film done very well by a director looking to break his career int the states (by the way, check out his Knock-out debut in Hungary, “KONTROLL” – one of the best films of 2005 anywhere!). One of the key strengths of Vacancy is that either sets of characters do not do anything that is ‘unbelievable’ – the cat and mouse aspect seemed quite down to earth and believable. I liked that.
Prequel idea, i agree, is rather silly.
I ended up liking Vacancy a lot as well. 2 strong lead performances…especially Luke Wilson suprised me. It was unusual to see him in that role and I really enjoyed it…wish he got more roles like that. I also liked how it ended on a bleek note. You aren’t sure if he survives or not…perhaps aren’t even sure if the badguy was completely dead or not.
But ya…a prequel is a stupid idea. Why? There is nothing to do a prequel for. We know what was going on at the motel. I guess they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel these days. I foresee this going straight to DVD….
Um . . . spoiler warning?
who me? Eh, if you haven’t seen it by now…I’d say it’s your own fault unless your busy life gets in the way, but if that were the case why would you have time to roam the forums to see the spoiler in the first place.
But someone edit my post, I dunno how…if I even can.
don’t worry hotmale,
I spoiled it too in my post…:P
Good site, thanks!h
Good Site! Keep Doing That!
I enjoyed your page. Keep up the good work! Feel free to visit my page. It\’s cool too.
i think a prequuel is just what some people need some people acturally like more to a movie then gore so i think it would be nise to know why these crazy people had so much enjoyment killing these people
Hey, you wanna know something…this isn’t a Prequel, this is a remake.
On shocktillyoudrop.com they have the actuall plotline, and guess what?…it’s just like the original…EXACTLY LIKE IT!!!
So it seems to me that only reason WHY they are doing a ‘prequel’ is to continue the frachise EVENTHOUGH all the killers died in the original!!!
I HATE Hollywood!!!! I SWEAR, I could come up with better SHIT than this…Jeez!!!…why does everything have to be sequalized to make more money…be happy with the original and F’N move on…I’m so SICK of this CRAP!!!
HOLLYWOOD…GO DIE!!!
