No Jason Statham For G.I. Joe

Guess it’s Jason Statham day around here. A while back word came out that it appeared that Jason Statham was up for a major role in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie (I believe he was supposed to play Action Man or something like that). Now, I”m up for anything action oriented with Statham in it, the dude is a machine… so I was pretty pleased with that news.
However, the good folks over at MTV are now reporting that it ain’t happening. Jason Statham will NOT be in G.I. Joe.
Paramount was looking his way, and that he was the first choice for the role, presumably to add an international flavor to what would otherwise be a film focused exclusively on American soldiers. So we wondered: has he even been contacted at all?
“[I have] no connection with ‘G.I. Joe,’” he insisted.
So there you have it. I’m certainly disappointed that Statham won’t be in it (I think he’d be perfect for it) but it’s not as if this is going to either make or break G.I. Joe as a movie. I’m sure they’ll find another actor who will fill the shoes just fine.
When G.I. Joe comes out and disappoints everyone who was looking forward to it… having Statham in one of the roles wouldn’t have saved it. Having the director of The Mummy 2 and Van Helsing is what’s going to sink this ship.

That’s too bad. He is great in everything he’s in, even if the show he is in isn’t very good itself.
That’s a shame. The only part I’ve ever seen Statham do was his cameo with Tom Cruise in Collateral. I liked that guy. Oh well, what can you do? Absolutely nothing. XD
Bah.. I love all the movies he has been in – Crank was a great movie.
i like the guy…he should’ve been wolverine in my opinion….give the guy a wig and hes perfect, he short stocky and mean, plus he can kick ass, unlike hughs pansy ass (hugh did good tho)….i liked all the movies hes been in besides crank (ugh…so stupid)…yes i even liked revolver….
come on john…..the mummy 2 was good ol fun, 75% of the movie was action and it was good action, yea the study was dumb but who cares….but yea van helsing sucks….i dont understand why studios bring out movies based on old series and turn them into fluffy crap cough-transformers-cough…most people who watched these old shows are adults now….give us adult movies…SHIT
As much as I’m opposed to making GIJOE an international team, I was really looking forward to seeing Statham as Action Man or whatever SAS agent they wanted to make him. In fact, other than the Dreadnok news, he was the one thing about the project that excited me…oh yeah, and Destro…but he’d better be a principled Scooootish arms dealer and not some two bit villain with a raspy cartoon voice.
I LOVE this guy, but I thik he’s gotten typecast. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about seeing him shirtless, oiled up and killing people, but I think he can do much more than that. He’s a charismatic guy, and I’d like to see him use his potential for more than shooting folks.
if he was going to be in the movie that would be kick ass :)
