well SML if gosling showed up over weight and not looking anything like what jackson was expecting then he has every right to get rid of him.

It's jacksons film and as the director he has the last word.

I seriously doubt it is that anyway.....

there are other reports that gosling wanted to cut his own hair and design his own wardrobe and had all these weird demands and was generally being a diva.

who knows ....... there will be more to this story no doubt.

well it says he gained it "for the job". But I watched trailers of "Lars and the Real Girl" and he looked like he put on some weight just from seeing him in the trailers. Perhaps it wasn't for the role..perhaps he is just a FATTY!

Hmmmm....I like both actors, but if Gosling gained 20 pounds for the part, I guess they'll just have to deal with a buffed out Wahlberg, as he's been training for a boxing film. Which lends itself to Gosling getting fired for gaining the weight, not gaining the weight for the role.

This is nothing new for Peter Jackson. Like another poster said, he's replaced Stuart Townsend at the very last minute with Viggo Mortensen for the role of Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings.

To Peter Jackson, it's not about actors challenging him, I think he's shown that he can accept ideas from actors and other collaborators. I mean, just look at the documentaries for LOTR and King Kong. He's one of the most collaborative directors working now.

He has stressed before that he'd rather work with actors he can get along with because he will be working with them for a long period of time. I think Jackson is basically a non-confrontational guy. He's willing to collaborate, but he doesn't get a long with you, it just wouldn't work.

It's so easy to jump on this news with negativity spewing out of our ears, isn't it? It's the normal human thing to do, after all. I mean, it's far easier, and probably much more convenient and fun to believe the worst in people.

Good move Gosling! Jackson sux and has yet to make a good movie! Ya..I said it! All the Lord of the Rings are terrible...so boring...so long. Same thing with King Kong...so boring...so long. Gosling is a better actor than Marky Mark, hands down.

Excluding things like learning accents and such a good actor shouldn't need to 'prepare'. A good actor just needs to do what they are told and follow the script. It's the writers and directors job to 'prepare'. Everything they need should be on the page or at least in the head of the director.
