Its funny I posted a similar entry on my blog about JCVD and his movies. I quite like the “Teaser”, the actual trailer is available on the web somewhere though, I caught a glimpse of it and found it rather assuming. Who knows maybe this will be his big come back or at least a movie that won’t go straight to video. Cheers!

No, I don’t think it is serious either but a semi-autobio pic with JC’s early years before he took his stage name might be of slight interest.

However, if you really had to ask me, I’d much rather pay cash to see a bio pic on Chuck Norris.

Hmmmm…. to REALLY understand the idea behind the film, you’ve got to understand the current popularity of Van damme in France the last few years… it has actually very little to do with his films or acting, but has a lot to do with a string of interviews he’s done for french television over the years while promoting his various films.

JCVD is actuallly a french speaking belgian (by that I mean that he speaks a funny kind of french to the French’s ears – I know, I’m belgian too)and add to that the fact that he has lived in America for the last 25 years, so the guy gives a lot of interviews where he is obviously struggling with his french, intersped with funny americanisms, and also discussing some very strange topics, probably fuelled by his then daily drug intake… it’s hard to describe, but the French have this habit of rooting for these kinds of underdogs, so the guy gets to be hugely popular based on these weird interviews where he goes on a tangent about beig “AWARE” (aouaire, as the french would say) and all sorts of pseudo-mystic mumbo-jumbo.

The results of this is that the guy is now regularly seen in adverts playing this kind of parody of himself, because obviously he’s none too smart, but smart enough to sense he has caught the attention of the media over there and that he can easily cash on it.

So the movie has got to be seen in this context; I don’t knowthe datails of the scenario, but my guess is they are going to use this Van Damme persona as a comic tool, playing with it, and having JC playing is own role is really the cherry on the cake. I don’t think it is meant to be a serious attempt at a Van Damme biopic, but more as a film with Van Damme playing his own foolsih self.
