Eva Mendes Gives More Details For ‘Will Eisner’s The Spirit’

eva-mendes.jpgRecently we heard about Eva Mendes being cast as the femme fatale, Sand Saref in Frank Miller’s upcoming project, ‘Will Eisner’s The Spirit’. She was able to tell Movieweb.com that the film shoots starts in a couple of weeks and a few details regarding the rehearsals for the film.

MovieWeb gives us this:

We just had a table read, and we are having a few rehearsals. I’ll know more when I get there. I am so eager. I love the way the rehearsals went. Frank is really great with actors. And this will be interesting, because he told me that this was going to be like acting class. He said, “We will be shooting you on stage, and if you don’t actually directly touch it, it won’t exist in the shot.” So, like this wall. It won’t be in the shot if I don’t touch it. It’s going to be all CGI. It is going to be this graphic world that he creates. It should be interesting, because I have never worked like that.

It looks like Frank Miller is going to direct this in the same style ‘Sin City’ was directed. The question is, is that a good thing? Is it a good idea to keep filming movies in graphic novel style? ‘Sin City’ was different and original, and I’m afraid if we keep seeing movies done in this format, it just won’t be as striking anymore.

I think anything done after Sin City was done, and done in the style of Sin City just can’t be different and original. That is not to say it isn’t amazing or just plain good, but once something is done, it is done. Anything afterwards is considered less.

Take The Matrix, even it’s own sequels couldn’t compare. Story aside, we saw how the magic worked since, and it no longer was magic. It was just another movie.

Actually I think this is great news. The Spirit had a very distinct look, very different from other comics. I’s not going to look like Sin City, It’s going to be “The Spirit.”

I am looking forward to this.

Ok I watched Red Heat today with Belushi and Arnold. I keep getting her and Gershon confused. Anyways, how about a Mendes and Gershon do a “Wild Things” scene? Anyone agree with me?

I hope this movie works out for Frank Miller

  4. This still sounds a lot better than the JLA movie coming out. I say this ones is going to be good.

If anyone commenting on this post has never read the Spirit or even seen any of Will Eisner’s artwork, you really should get a good look it. Its what inspired Frank Miller’s inking style I think the most and gave the Sin City graphic novels their look. This will be like Sin City, the prequel. Only the characters will be much cooler than any of the ones in Sin City. Much more film noire and character driven.
