Penn to Play Harvey Milk in Gus Van Sant Project
I love Sean Penn as an actor and try to see everything this man is in. I am definitely interested in seeing his next project. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Penn is attached to play Harvey Milk, a openly gay politician who caused controversy in the seventies.
Yahoo News gives us this: Once a distribution deal is finalized, Van Sant hopes to begin production on the as-yet-untitled feature in San Francisco as early as December. The uncertain start date may affect Damon’s participation as Milk’s killer, Dan White.
It’s the latest chapter in a long-running race to film the biopic of the first openly gay prominent elected official, which has pitted Van Sant’s project against another from fellow openly gay director Bryan Singer.
Is it just me, or can anybody foresee Sean Penn’s next Best Actor Nomination? The man is a fantastic actor, and there is no role too difficult for him to try. I also think this is a good idea for a biopic, because it’s a story that needs to be told. However, I really wish that MEG would have been Gus Van Sant’s next project. :( ( I won’t give up hope to see a prehistoric shark on the big screen!)

If anything, this puts a question mark as to what Bryan Singer will do next. JUSTICE LEAGUE is supposedly ahead of THE MAN OF STEEL for 2009 and now Van Sant’s MILK film will move forward before Singer’s own THE MAYOR OF CASTRO STREET.
Then again, maybe WB will say, “Fuck it!” and move forward with both MOS and CASTRO regardless. *Shrugs* Personally, I’d rather see Singer’s film b/c Van Sant hasn’t made a watchable film in Y-E-A-R-S!
He’s not bad. He’s been to Irag…
I was just a kid when he got shot. I remember when Fienstein made the announcement that he was dead. It was all over the news for a long time.
I hope that they really capture the moment just right. Good Luck. Maybe I’ll take some pics of Civic Center while they are filming.
Who is this…Sean Penn… you speak of?
