There has been a lot of chatter going on recently about a big screen adaptation for the comic book character “Thor”. There was a script review floating around with people just gushing about it… then another piece of good news came out that Stardust director Matthew Vaughn was going to helm it… and then came the rumors that Kevin McKidd of ROME may be up for the lead role as the son of Oden himself.
However, McKidd recently talked about those rumors. Our friends over at IESB give us this:
McKidd responded by saying, ” It’s semi true, I didn’t know about it either until I heard the rumors and I called my agent and he went, yeah, yeah, we’ve been talking to them about it. But the last I heard from my agent, they’re talking that they want to go for somebody much younger, a 19/20-year-old, for that role. So they’re re-conceptualizing it as we speak.” So does that mean he’s out of a role? Maybe not, he continued, “I think there’s the other main male character in that movie that I’m in consideration for
So there you have it. Being 34 pretty much does leave McKidd out at Thor if they really want to go for someone THAT young, but he may still be in the film itself.
But come on! 19 years old? When I think of The Mighty Thor, I don’t think of “Superhero High”. I think having him in that age range is just silly. Not that it matters though… I still don’t think this will work… there’s just something about Thor that I don’t think will translate well to the big screen (or any live action environment for that matter. Time will tell.

While the mugshot kid of makes me think brother ‘Loki’, I’m…OKAY with the early 20’s Thor. Gio, think the Donald Blake Thor. College med student, paralyzed. Odin kicks Thor out Asgard because after a million years, it’s time for Tough Love. Spirit of Thor goes into Blake, and like Quantum Leap, Blake’s “personality” is transported elsewhere, while the Thor persona hijacketh, taketh over the body. He can change into full armor with the raising of his Hammer, and causeth lightning to scareth, and speaketh in ye olde King James and/or stilted Shakespeare.
But what would be badass? If Thor went up against Ulik the Troll, and/or the Mangog, or the Midguard serpent.
So who will they get as Thor? That’s a toughie.

I would not really want to see some 19 year old punk teenager trying to be a bad ass son of a god. I think young 30’s is perfect. But then, I am definitely not an expert on Thor.

Kevin McKidd is much to young to play the character Thor. He does not have the toughness and he looks like a school boy. Triple H is perfect for the role and he is a well-known celebrity in entertainment. With Triple H as Thor the movie will generate millions in box-office revenue. The director of the movie should be Brett Ratner or Tim Story not Matthew Vaughen.
