darren-bousman.jpgLionsgate announced recently that the much anticipated horror musical, Repo! The Genetic Opera has began principal photography this week in Toronto, Canada. The film is being directed by Saw series director, Darren Lynn Bousman and being written by Terrence Zdunich and Darren Smith. (creators of the 2002 stage production) Most people by now know the electic cast which includes notorious party girl Paris Hilton, “spy kid” Alexa Vega, “Devil’s Reject” Bill Moseley, Buffy’s Anthony Steward Head, and singer Sarah Brightman.

Moviesonline gives us this:

Directing a full-length filmed version of the story has always been a goal for Bousman, and he is enthusiastic about the cast that has been assembled for the production. “I’m very excited to be bringing this story to life with each of these outstanding performers,” Bousman raves. “They bring so much flair to Repo’s bizarre fantasy world while entirely disappearing into their shadowy characters.”

Ever since meeting Darren Bousman, I knew how passionate he was about making this film project a reality. I truly believe it is a movie which will really define himself as a talented horror movie director, instead of constantly being known as “the dude who does the SAW sequels.” He has already directed the stage production in 2002, and directed a very well shot short film adaptation of Repo. (Starring the ever so cool Michael Rooker) This movie is tailor made for Darren, and I can’t wait until he surprises and thrills audiences around the world with REPO!
