Eastern Promises Poster

I really like David Cronenberg. No, I wasn’t a fan at all of “A History of Violence”, but his other work more than makes up for that. I’ve expecially been quite interested in this new movie he has coming out called “Eastern Promises“. Much like other big directors, he seems to have found his favorite actor to work with in Viggo Mortensen, which isn’t a bad thing.

The synopsis for Easter Promises looks something like this:

“Nikolai (Viggo Mortensen), a man both ruthless and mysterious, has ties to one of London’s most dangerous crime families. Nikolai crosses paths with Anna (Naomi Watts), an innocent midwife, who accidentally uncovers potentially damaging evidence against the family, forcing him to set in motion a plan of murder, deceit and retribution.”

Nice… sounds good to me.

Saw the trailer for this last week, and while it looks interesting, it also looks like one of THOSE movies….you know, one that looks cool and you put it on your to-see list, but then you find out that it’s only getting a limited release and you forget about it until you see it on a rack in Walmart.

I thought the trailer was really good…but thats the same exact thing I said about Cronenberg’s previous film too (“A History of Violence” was a mess of a movie)…so I’m not sure what to say about this film at this point.

You guys are nuts. A History of Violence was a great film. One of the best I’ve ever seen, and I’m really looking foward to this one.

I was already looking forward to this but I recently saw a second trailer which really sealed it for me. Looks excellent.

I think “A History of Violence” was a very, very smart movie.
Maybe too subtle with it’s message for some people to “get it”.
Uhhh…I’m feeling awful smug right now.
Anyway…I’m looking forward to anything Cronenberg does.
