Sylar As Spock?

Sylar-SpockWithout question the best new show on TV this past year was Heroes. Damn good TV. And one of the characters that made that show so friging wonderful and addictive like sweet sweet crack was the main villain… Sylar. There was something about his overwhelming “Ordinariness” that made him so damn frightening. One of the best TV villains in ages.

Ok, now the guys over at my fellow Canadian website Joblo recently quoted Sylar actor Zachary Quinto about his desire to be in the new Star Trek film. Here’s what he had to say:

Quinto has no doubt ensured himself a career boost after starring in one of television’s most talked about shows, and the actor recently spoke out on one of his dream roles, saying: “I missed the ‘Superman Returns’ boat, so I’m angling for ‘Star Trek.’ People are constantly telling me I bear some resemblance to Leonard Nimoy.” Quinto is also aware of his co-star Greg Grunberg’s close relationship with new STAR TREK director J.J. Abrams (he’s had roles in ALIAS and LOST): “Maybe Sylar should tell Greg, ‘I promise I won’t kill you if you get me an audition,’ …We’ll see what happens.”

Just think about that for a moment. Quinto would make an AMAZING Spock, and not just because he looks like the guy (Just look at that picture). I think the man could pull off a wicked Spock. Just my two cents worth. Could this actually happen? I doubt it… but it’s fun to theorize.

  1. He may look and act like Leonard Nimoy but was Spock “gay?” Quinto obviously is and can’t hide it as Sylar so would it come through as a Vulcan character?

  2. Well the thing is if STAR TREK is indeed a prequel (which it looks to be!) Then Abrams is going to need an actor who:

    A) can pass for a young(er) Nimoy
    B) can pay enough respect to Nimoy’s take over the years while attempting to make the role his own
    C) well…is a good actor!

Now I’ve never watched HEROES. I was a huge STUDIO 60 ON THE SUN-STRIP fan last season. But, Zachary Quinto certainly looks the part. Regardless, we’re supposed to be getting major TREK news at Comic-Con.

I’m just wondering if this Adrian Brody rumor we’ve heard since forever is true. He’s been suspiciously quiet recently and apparently has nothing announced/scheduled for this Fall…

  3. bert you are totally spot on…the season had some great episodes but sweet lord did that finale blow big giant cocks.

that was one of the worst finales I have ever seen….such a huge huge let down.

    they blew….

  4. He would make a great Spock.

I liked Sylar. Not all solo villians need charisma. His “blandness” was due to the character’s emotional distance from and his lack of empathy for others.

Whether he is a good actor remains to be seen. Dominic Purcell comes to mind, he was great in John Doe, but he was woeful in Blade: Trinity. He didn’t have the charisma for Drake, but was perfect for the everyman blandness of John Doe.

  5. By the way, John:
Congratulations on that great video about the Fox/MGM Breast Cancer scam. Probably the best work I have seen on this site so far (and enjoy this site alot).
Indeed this is an outrage and you Sir have done a great thing for uncovering the disgusting details of this shameless marketing plot.
I hope this receives greater attention from the media and I hope you will uncover a lot more interesting stories like this.
    Very, very well done!!

Oh, is there any comment section for the “daily cut”? Couldn’t discover any so I wrote this in here.

  6. I have to disagree here:
Sylar was in my opinion one of the blandest, most uninteresting villains on TV for a long time and that can be credited almost solely to the totally uncharismatic, forgettable performance by Zachary Pinto.
I don’t know about you, but I like my villains charismatic, menacing and mysterious, Sylar was none of that. Anybody remember Arvin Sloane (Ron Rifkin) from “Alias”? Now that’s a villain.

As for Spock, well yeah, he kinda looks looks like him (who doesn’t with those ears, the brows and the wig), but is that all?
He just wants to raise attention, nothing more.

  7. Well he’d definitley look like the part i’d give you that. Though I wouldn’t strech to say that he’d be amazing. Probably Really Good
