Remarkable Iron Man Poster

By John Campea - July 10, 2007 - 13:42 America/Montreal

Holy crap! I’m no Iron Man fan… but this is one of the most beautiful super-hero posters I’ve ever seen. It captures everything. Gorgeous!

Rich poster for the poor mans batman :p love it :D

  2. Ethan says:

This has been floatong around the internet for awhile John. I think it’s too comic booky, there was one a while back (it might have been fan made) that I really liked.
This movie is will be so good, IMO it will be better than the Dark Knight. Only because of its newness and the good news that keeps surfacing.

  3. Cole says:

It reminds me too much of the Rocketeer posters so I’m not blown away.

    Oooo…purdy!

  5. sgt. p33nor says:

    !!!!!*dies of awsomeness*

  6. louman3 says:

it looks like one of the more newer comic book covers.
What i think sucks is that everybody is watching these comic book movies but they don’t actually read the comic books. But, that’s really the sad state of things. Movies will always be more accessible than going to read a comic book. Just like movies and tv shows will have a bigger audience than novels.

  7. Anonymous says:

Your taste in movie poster is really weird some of the good ones you hate and something this stupid you like, dunno.

  8. jason presti says:

I’m tired of the people who diss on Iron Man as the “poor man’s Batman”!

They have obviously never read the Iron Man comic book. Tony Stark is NOTHING like Bruce Wayne and the two are completely different heroes.

Iron Man is far from my favorite hero but i read his book for years and liked it a lot.

Tony Stark’s motivations for becoming a hero are not the same as Bruce Wayne’s. His approach to fighting crime is different than Wayne’s.

Bruce Wayne is a detective and uses a cover of being a Playboy and corporate rich guy. However, Bruce has other people to run his business for him and doesn’t really care about business and corporate matters.

Tony Stark actually is a Playboy and businessman First. he doesn’t pretend to be in that world, he is that world. He runs his businesses himself with a tight hand and when he is not fighting crime he is negotiating technology deals with the government, engaging in corporate espionage, partying, and drinking…Hard!

  9. Blaze87 says:

    Power to you, Jason Presti.

  10. Bishop says:

    You say Tomato.
    I say Testicles.

This poster reminds more of “The Rocketeer” than Iron Man. Is it supposed to be blurry? Or is just the way the pic was taken?

Whether the movie is going to be good or bad, I will likely still see it.

I am a (was) a big comic book fan. As far as people not reading the comic books and seeing the movies instead, who fuckin cares? I don’t think it is sad at all. I think, if anything, people may actually go and start picking them up. How many copies of 300 do you think sold BEFORE anyone heard of this movie as compared to afterwards? How many copies of Sin City (Sorry to use the Frank Miller thing twice) , how many copies of … ummm … Howard the Duck? And what about the upcoming 30 Days of Night (pleasepleasepleasedontsuck)?

Reading a book or graphic novel before seeing a movie doesn’t take away or add to the enjoyment of a film, as a matter of fact it SHOULDN’T. A good movie should just be a good movie. A good poster is a good poster. This poster is mediocre. Sorry.

    Uh-huh.

Just thought it may be my turn to stir up shit. See you in church.

  12. louman3 says:

    bishop,

Despite the rise in popularity in comic book movies, I don’t think many of those people are actually reading the comic books themselves. In fact, i think the movies could turn off people from the comic books, because comics cannot compete with these special effects spectacles. Take your example of 300 and Sin City, Once people watch those movies and take a look at the comic books, do you think they would be turned off by them? And lets face it, people just aren’t that into reading. Once you require people to read something, it limits the audience greatly. Movies on the other hand have a huge audience.

  13. That’s a very old fan-manip and not an official poster.

    Vic

  14. Ethan says:

That about sums it up Jason Presti. I am also sick of this Iron man is a poor man’s version of Batman. Let us hope all of those other Iron Man (i’m not gonna right the whole Batman ripp off title) “dislikers” read that.

  15. louman3 says:

    Ok for example, Batman.
Who actually reads the Batman comic books?
Sure Campea and Nagy can talk all they want about Batman movies, but do they read the comic books?

Why is this all very sad?

This is all sad because these are comic book characters, but people aren’t supporting the source material. In other words, I think that comic book based movies are not the truest representation of the characters and the comic books. Comic book movies are for those people who aren’t into comic books, but just like the movies.

  16. louman3 says:

Who actually reads the Batman, Superman, Fantastic Four, Spider-man, X-Men comic books? Do you, Campea, Nagy?

All this has strong repurcussions, how would the comic book industry survive if people continue to do this? And if people don’t support the comic industry, so should the comic book industry just leave the comics behind and start doing movies instead? This is obviously very bad for comic book lovers, but who will create the next Batman, Ironman, Fantastic Four? So are they going to just go direct into the movies and skip the comic altogether?

  17. Umbrax says:

Like Vic said this isn’t a real poster.
It is a a photo edit of a comic cover, Iron Man #82
    http://www.marvel.com/catalog/?id=652

  18. louman3 says:

    you got OWNED, Campea!

  19. Jarred says:

Am I missing something here Louman? How did Campea get “owned”? (Who the hell says that anymore anyway?)

  20. louman3 says:

    Jarred,

He got OWNED because he was fooled into thinking this was a real movie poster. I think this shows how little Campea really know the Iron Man comic books. It was just a comic book cover photoshopped to look like a poster.

  21. Jarred says:

Oh, I understand now. Because campea doesn’t read a pathetic little comic book such as iron man, and posts up a poster he thought you iron mans fans would like, that means he got “owned”.

    Still, who still says that?

  22. Joseph Ferrarelli says:

Dammit I want a trailer. But that poster…I can’t wait for this film.

  23. I’m wondering, itn’ friends…how does this look like the original Rocketeer poster? Link all you want; this Iron Man poster hardly looks ART DECO STYLE to me. (I loved the Rocketeer poster and movie, BTW, and since Disney makes sequels to all sorts of things, what’s keeping them with a …no, second thought, I should keep the lip zipped, becfore some Dis exec gets a funny idea)

Anyway, as far as movie teaser posters go, this is outstanding work. Much more effective than most other teaser posters in the comic book genre.

AND, since we’re on the subject of comic books and films, I hereby retract my dismissal on my comments on the 30 Days Of Night one sheet. I saw that poster in my theatre. Much more impressive than a little jpeg on my puter screen….

  24. louman3 says:

i just hate people like Campea, people like him who don’t care about the comic books but just love the movies-based on the comic books. These people are NOT comic book fans, they are nothing but a bunch of posers, they do not follow the stories in the comics and have only a basic knowledge of the stories. It’s just funny how he can be so obsessed about comic book movies, but know so little about the comics.

  25. Oops. It is fan art. Eh, no matter. Still looks good.

  26. Jarred says:

Louman, you’re such an idiot. Do you listen to the podcasts? Campea probably knows a hell of a lot more about comics than you do. Just because he doesn’t like your pathetic little Iron Man doesn’t mean he doesn’t know comics.

I could be mistaken, but I remember him saying he used to buy like 20 issues a month until a few years ago.

On that, you do realize that outside of your loser little world, that like 95% of human beings don’t read comic books right?

Comics and Movies are different mediums. Learn to deal with it.

And if you hate Campea so much, why the fuck are you here iron man boy?

  27. louman3 says:

Oh i’m sure he knows a TON about comic books, he didn’t even know who are in the Teen Titans.

  28. Jarred says:

HAHAHA!!! Are you being serious? Are you that much of a loser?!?! I’m sorry Louman, you’re right. Anyone who is COOL knows who are in the teen titans. Who the fuck are the teen titans? Oh yeah, that little kiddie comic.

So unless a guy reads all the shit little comics, then he doesn’t know anything about comic books? Holy shit son, get a life.

  29. Louman, that’s the oddest arguement I ever heard.

If the film isn’t good, it won’t reflect on the comic book/character that inspired it. If the film is good, it will attract new fans, new readership or returning readership.

So far, the film looks solid. But are “comics fans” are gonna bitch over it? You bet.
So Iron Man isn’t Gio’s favorite character or comic book. Big whoop. Somehow I think he’ll still look forward to the movie. Just a hunch.

  30. Krintina says:

I was going to ask louman3 to stop representing Iron Man fans, because he’s making us look bad. But it looks like Jarred already “OWNED” him. (hehe)

  31. Allen says:

See here’s the thing, Campea has said pretty much a million times that he is not a fan of ironman the comic. So why is it that anyone would be suprised that he would mistake fan art for a poster? It still looks good and the artist should be praised for their work.

  32. Ethan says:

Okay, Jarred the Iron Man comic is far from pathetic, also stop dissing Teen Titans, just because they are brought up by you opponent dosnt mean you can casually dis them to make you look good. Plus they are far from kiddie, in one issue a couple has sex in it so you are really bereft of any knowledge. Unless you’re talking about the show which does nothing but makes the TT look like a bunch of twelve year olds in suits, with super powers, playing video games. And the term “OWNED” is still around, people use it and often look lowly and fanboyish (that ones still around too).

And yes Louman Kristina is right, stop making us Iron Man fans look bad. All in all, don’t dis Campea because he was dooped by a craftilly made poster. I read comics and find interest in artists so that gives me(and all the other comic fans) a finer eye for what is comic art and what is not. Also Iron Man art is made for the sole purpose of looking waaay more real than others, his art always has a look that reminds you of a picture. So don’t expect someone who dosnt read that much comics anymore to not be tricked by a picture that was made too look real. Louman you shouldnt feel any sort of triumph

  33. Jay says:

I thought I was at themovieblog but judging from the comments I must have logged onto AICN by accident…

  34. “I thought I was at themovieblog but judging from the comments I must have logged onto AICN by accident…”

    LMAO!!! :-D

  35. Mike says:

The poster is crap. There was a similar poster for “Superman returns”.

  36. John Iver says:

Who cares if its fan art, It’s still great.
Simple, and leaves you wanting more.

  37. Eric says:

I agree with Darren, they can’t make everyone happy and just because someone isn’t a fan, doesn’t make it wrong for them to BECOME a fan. Some die hard fans seem to have this issue with “I’m a better fan than you are because I’ve been one longer”. Who cares? I’m a Star Wars fan and I’ve been one since 1977 when it rolled out to the big screen for the first time. I still enjoy meeting a new fan and discussing the films, even if we don’t see eye to eye on everything. Broaden your perspective, some folks. You can still have intelligent conversation with these other fans and maybe even learn something yourself.

The only thing I can fault John on here is that he maybe should have done a little more research before he posted the picture. Otherwise, big deal. I read Iron Man and multiple other comic titles; DC and Marvel both. And you know what, I didn’t know it was a comic cover either, because I see so many of them each week. Give the guy a break, he’s got a lot of work bring the content to this site and finding new things. If you don’t like what you see here, move on.

  38. norm says:

That Rockteer poster is Art Deco look it up! The other is a comic book cover. Iron man is a comic book as well!
