  5. It is fun, so so fun.. but I do think he looks smashing. The set of his lips, his posture. God I try so much to hate him just cause he went nuts on Oprah.. but it is not to be.

    That being said, I laughed my ass off reading this comments section.

  10. Shane = Int’l friends, Cruise is playing Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, famous for conducting an assassination attempt of Hitler, and excuted by the SS for being the ringleader. Or did you all just like…forget that? I find the int’l friend comments equating Cruise’s character with Hitler extremely out of place, and not amusing.

    Yeah, we seem to pick on Tom for scientology…but I’ll throw in Top Gun, The Firm, Minority Report, Risky Business, Collateral, Directors Cut Of Legend and Magnolia in my DVD player anytime.

    When I see a film, and the actors do a stellar job, I don’t say to myself while watching the film ‘Oh, there’s Chow Yun Fat, the Buddhist’ or there’s Mel Gibson, ‘The Catholic’. Heck, when I see actors in bad films, I don’t say to myself, ‘Hey, there goes so-and so, The Mormon’. Now…granted, John Travolta and ‘Battlefield Earth’ may be the slight exception, but that’s because he opened himself up for it.

    But the real stupidity here is calling/implying a real life German ‘hero’ who was against Nazism a nazi. Regarless of who plays him. I suppose you all have a problem with the performance of the late Brad Davis too in the same role in a 1990 TV movie?

  15. It really fucking pisses me off when people attack Cruise based on his personal beliefs. They are his personal beliefs and they should be completely irrelevant to the work he does. Scientology is no way any more absurd than Christianity/Islam/Judaism/Hinduism or any other religion for that matter.

  16. Cruise may be a crazy nut-bag, but I think he’s a good, decent actor. That and he jumps on couches, which is funny as hell.

    As for the image- I’m having trouble even thinking this is Cruise, it’s very different from his other roles, where he’s wearing either boxers and a shirt or hoodies, and such… And the eye patch here… Huh. Gonna have to see how this movie goes, I guess. No real telling at this point.

  17. Cruise is a decent actor and this could be an interesting part for him, but he’s bringing so much bad publicity baggage along, I don’t see how this can work. And this photo isn’t helping… if this is a studio-approved photo it’s a disaster. His jacket is all wrinkled and lumpy, it makes him look fat and the sneer just says, “look at me, I’m overacting.”

  18. Cruise couldn’t display emotion if you shot him in the a$$; he proved that clearly in War of the Worlds. That’s why he’ll actually be great as a Nazi.

  19. I’m bringing Tom’s signed “mein kampf” for his approach to playing Nazi’s with sterotypical eyepatchs. Did Hitler stab you in the eye when you made officer in the SS as a part of the promotion? How did that get started?

    I’ve never been able to get onboard with Cruise as an actor…I can’t seem to take him seriously and this is before I found out he was a nutbag.

  25. He really is going to have to be superb in this part to shake away the notion that it’s just Tom Cruise in a controversial fancy dress costume. I wish him luck.

    And Andrew sir, you should tell us about what appeals to you about Scientology; seriously. My main problem with Scientology has always been that i have never heard anybody defend it without coming off like a jackass.

  32. As much as I disagree with Cruise and his beliefs and generally dislike him (in terms of celebrities) I couldnt force myself not to like most of his movies. The guy is a gifted actor and I can wait to see this movie. Cruise is still a nutbag though.
