Bryan Singer Is Doing Superman Sequel Next

Last week a report was going around, where one of the producers of the upcoming project “The Mayor of Castro Street” was claiming that Bryan Singer was going to do that film right after finishing up Valkyrie and put the next Superman film off until perhaps 2010. However, that seems to have been shot down rather harshly by Singer’s People. The good folks at Movieweb give us the following:
IESB.net contacted sources within the Singer camp to find out the truth on the matter, who had the following response: ” “That’s total horse sh*t, I would say the same thing if I was producing that film but don’t you realize that most of the Superman producers are working with Bryan on Valkyrie? Gil Adler and Chris Lee both are in Germany with Bryan and I can guarantee you that there is some work being done with Superman right now.”
So is Singer putting off Superman? “Total Horse Shit” sounds like a definite “NO”. I think it’s a wise move to get this project going as soon as possible since I think the longer he puts it off… the more the sentiment of “Why make another one?” will grow. Let’s face it… as much as I enjoyed Superman Returns, there are a lot of people out there who didn’t.

Absolutely right John. I enjoyed Superman Returns a lot. I thought it was a magnificient film. Plus, they should make it sooner because people may lose interest by 2010 for a sequal.
For Example: If Pirates 3 was to be released four years after Pirates 2, people would lose interest because of how much Pirates 2 sucked. If they didnt make Pirates 3 after one year from Pirates 2, it would have made less than 100 million dollars opening weekend.
It’s like what I said on the show last week. All the evidence suggested that THE MAN OF STEEL was indeed going to be Singer’s next film.
The fact that none of the key SUPERMAN actors have other film roles lined up for next year. Legendary Pictures having the sequel listed as “In Development” on their official website. Not to mention, Brandon Routh saying for months now he was told by “higher-ups” to get ready to start filming in 2008. Jon Peters, Gil Alder, Michael Dougherty, Dan Harris and Robert Meyer Burnett have also said that on seperate occasions.
It’ll be interesting to see if other film web-sites will even cover this story. They were gung-ho to report THE MAN OF STEEL being delayed last week with glee (i.e. CHUD!)
I guess Singer is pretty busy on “Valkyrie” at the moment, so maybe he hasn’t even made up his mind yet.
Hard to believe the quote, that he’s actually working on Superman right NOW, while preparing for the shoot of another movie. That is a 24/7 job, so he probably hasn’t any time to think about “The Man of Steel” right now.
It actually happens quite a bit that teams will do some pre-production work for a movie while working on another film. I doubt its anything so involved that it takes away from the current film though, more like “spit-balling” during down time.
I too think they need to make this movie ASAP. They need to have a good story but fill it with action to appease the fans who didnt like Returns. I happened to LOVE it and hope they keep the emotional tone of Returns but give Superman more of a physical challenge.
Im looking foward to this because I think Singer is going to knock it out of the park. He has alot of feedback and knows exactly what the fans are looking for, he can take that and mold it into a fun, action packed yet charming story.

i hope the screenwriters do a better job w/ the next movie…i had no problems with how the movie was shot, but that was the second movie in which i verbally said “thats stupid”. to me, as long is he does movies like valkrie in between..i can wait for a superman film
Why waist the time with this franchise? Put it to bed already. He should do a Wolverine film add let ILM go hog wild on the special effects.
Anyway Singer should go back to directing dramas and Ranmi should go back to directing evil dead, because Transformers changed the game. As much as I don’t like a lot of Bay’s films I would take him over the other two when it comes to directing these types of films.
No Lex Luthor this time. Not even in a superpowered suit or as president of the US. Give him a rest for a film.
They really need a big gun like Doomsday or Darkseid.
Though I shudder to think what they’d do with Darkseid. Probably turn him into a cloud.
Superman and Darkseid would cry about their woman troubles, go out and get drunk, and then give each other life lessons. Oh wait, is this a Bryan Singer or Sam Raimi movie?
I liked Superman Returns but it just wasn’t that good as the other superman movies. I mean you find out that he has a kid but you don’t really get to remember that he and Lois slept together I don’t remember that happening in the other movies do you guys? I actually think that maybe Dean Caine or even the guy who plays Clark Kent in smallville should play the role in the sequel it would be a bigger hit then Superman Returns was. Another thing I thought was weird was where was Clark for most of the movie I mean you see Superman for almost all the movie and Clark for a little bit of the movie I mean Clark was gone for all that time too and Lois doesn’t really care all that much that he is back when in the second movie she finds out he is superman and falls in love with him. I think the movie left us asking what just happened and when did that happen. Just my 2 cents.
