Take a look at that picture above. Take a really good look at it. Think what you will of the recent Star Wars movies… or what you will about The Terminal. That picture holds more pure creative talent than can be held by most countries. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg on set for the first day of the shooting of Indiana Jones 4 (It’s all a rouse… we know this film still isn’t actually going to happen).

George Lucas is probably the single most creative mind in Hollywood. He has created some of the best stories, films, characters… but more than that he’s pushed through some of the best advancements in film over the last 20 years and he still pushing all the status quos. Steven Spielberg is hands down (in my opinion anyway) the best pure storyteller in the business and the very best director in movies today. Some people think i just say that because he’s done big blockbuster type films… but in reality, when you look at his body of work, no one… and I mean NO ONE is better. He is simply the best and the standard by which all others should be measured.

Anyway, enough with the fluff. A short little video of the first day of shooting for Indiana Jones 4 was released… it’s pretty cool to see. Check it out.

  2. melbye says:

I am really looking forward to reading Campeas review of this movie. It has the potential of becoming the funniest review ever,

  3. loren says:

you know the only reason they did that was so they could go “HA in your FACE campea!”

  4. Klendathu says:

Campea should fuck a squash if this movie is made…

    Holy double post, Batman!

I’m responding to Johns tom cruise post since the comment link is broken on the one story I’d actually like to comment on.

I think John is 100% wrong on condemning Germany for not letting cruise shoot a movie in there country. Lets say tom cruise was a practicing Neo Nazi would you still expect Germany to let him in? NO. and before you get on your high horse and say being a Scientologist is not as bad as a Neo Nazi you need to understand that in the eyes of half of the western world they are. Scientology is NOT a religion in Germany(and many other countrys) it is what it should be: labeled as a dangerous cult. There is an extreme difference between tolerating peoples beliefs and tolerating a cult.

Man oh Man this looks coooooollll!!! Granted it is 15 yrs late, but better late than never! I wonder if Ford is wearing a diaper on this shoot? :)

  9. Kristina says:

If this movie is released, John can simply claim that it is an optical illusion created by Spielberg and Lucas. Hell, for all we know, when we walk into the theater expecting to see Indy 4, it’ll start playing footage of Speilberg and Lucas in bed together, smoking cigarettes and laughing at our gullibility for two hours straight.

  10. Chark Hammis says:

Stop hijacking the thread and stay on topic, BRADLEY.

Talk about your over-reaching superlative. George Lucas is the single most creative mind in Hollywood!? He’s created one universe- Star Wars. Indy’s a collaboration. So was Willow. And while American Graffitti and THX were critically lauded, c’mon. Naming only an infinitesimal handful of folks in Hollywood today, you could challenge that assertion with ease: Martin Scorcesee, Steven Spielberg, Shane Black, Tim Burton, James Cameron, JJ Abrams, Cameron Crow, David Mamet and Paul Haggis. The list is embarassibgly short and high on name recognition, but c’mooooooooon.

  11. PHIL from LI NY says:

LOL, the “alleged” first day… John you won’t give up, your a funny guy. However, the way Lucas works… you may be right.

  12. Naught says:

    *blink*

There’s something wrong with The Terminal?

  13. Jeff Razey says:

Who wants to see an Indiana Jones movie were everyone carries walkie talkies instead of guns? ME! ME! ME! …..NOT!!!

    What about walkers?

  14. whol says:

phhhh…this is obviously fake. This movie isn’t being made.

  15. Meli says:

LOL! John, I’m looking forward to the next year of “supposed” footage with your comments. ;P

With that said – I can’t help but feel excitment knowing this movie is being made. I know there is a high possiblity it will not be very good, but I’m going to remain optimstic …at least for now.

  16. steven says:

i would personally say Cameron is the best creative force, but if your talking about popularity Lucas wins

and whats w/ the terminal? thats such a random movie to pluck out of speilberg’s list…why don’t you just say hook

  17. Kristina says:

    Hey! I like Hook!

    Rufio!!!!!

  18. Ethan says:

I DON’T GET IT. Why the heck are people saying that this friggin movie is fake? Why the heck would someone do that, its retarded!

  19. Kristina says:

    @Ethan

A joke is a short story or series of words spoken or communicated with the intent of causing laughter or being found humorous by the listener. One would derive humour from the circumstances or meaning of what is said.

  20. Ethan says:

WOW. Thank you, Kristina for that wonderful definition of a joke. You have succeeded in making me feel like a retard an I applaud you for that. I actually thought Whol was serious, now John (Campea) do you actually think that this is fake

  21. Chris says:

Ethan, John has been saying for years that Indiana Jones 4 is never getting made and still refuses to believe that the movie is actually getting made until he sees the movie itself, even then he’ll probably say its footage pasted together from the other three movies.

  22. Naught says:

Hey Kristina, do you know what has become of Rufio these days?
He acted in that Antonio Banderas teaching students to dance movie as one of the insignificant student.. oh man why?? Totally had a crush on him.

  23. Marcus says:

Like most I’ve grown up with Lucas and Spielberg’s movies and they are great movies.
Lucas is a story-teller and somebody who has a clear vision. What’s more he retains it throughout production and is exceptional at communicating his vision to a bunch of clearly talented artists and fellow film makers.
I admire Lucas greatly and thank him for creating Star Wars. A story that kick started and continues to fire my imagination to this day.

Spielberg knows where to point the camera and how best to translate the story in to something we all want to watch.
He is Jimmy Page to Lucas’ Robert Plant. Plant may well play the guitar but he’s not a patch on his band mate!

That said, go back and look at the original Star Wars.
The distant landscapes on Tatooine are David Lean. The princess/boy hero/Jedi/sword weilding is Kurosawa. The gritty clientel, rugged if slightly mysterious hero and bar stand off of Mos Eisley are Sergio Leone. The intense and moving soundtrack is Morricone courtesy of John Williams.

Say what you like about saturday morning matinees and Flash Gordon. Lucas took his lead from the best of cinema.

In the same way that I’d like to see Tsukamoto direct the original Alien story, I’d love to see the three afore mentioned legends direct Star Wars.

  24. Kristina says:

    @Naught

THAT was Rufio?! Oh God, ugh.

  25. Naught says:

    @Kris (Tina? I don’t think so)
Totally him. Still has the same acting skill. But still kinda hot >.@Kris (Tina? I don’t think so)
Totally him. Still has the same acting skill. But still kinda hot >.< It was the red mohawk, I tell you.
