Sharon Sees Transformers in LA Last Night – “Fucking Awesome”

Sharon-HeadshotHey there guys. Ok, so Movie Blog writer Sharon Dewitt was able to attend a special screening of Transformers last night in Los Angeles (yes… the same screening I was wrestling about flying back down to LA for) with Michael Bay in attendance. Sharon is going to be posting up her full review of it later tonight (keep your eyes open for it) but I thought I’d give you the heads up.

Keep a couple of things in mind. 1) Sharon is girl (duh). 2) Sharon doesn’t have a nostalgia connection with Transformers the way I do. 3) Sharon hasn’t been REALLY looking forward to this film. With that said, her first words to me were:

“Fucking Awesome”.

I had a quick conversation with her, and apparently the packed house just loved the flick and got huge responses from the audience. Sharon’s review will go up at around 11pm EST tonight.

  1. Jaysmack,

I have to ask, you state this in your first post:

“I’ve already read some of the so-called “reviews” from the LA screening and not one of them talks about the plot, which tells me there isn’t one. The reviews all begin the same way, by apologizing for how bad the film is, then going on to say, “But it had transforming robots and that makes it the greatest movie that’s ever been made!””

Do you have a link to said review(s) as every review I have seen so far out of Sydney and other screenings have nothing BUT positive things to say and as for not mentioning plot, since there is a lot not shown in the preview, and people probably do not want to ruin it for others.

  2. i dont even think Sharon has to write anything else…

“fucking awesome” would never apply to shakespearen film…

it means this movie is purely kickass, and the entertainment factor of it overwhelmed any flaws the movie had.

my ass will be there on opening night (july2nd at 8pm) =D

    *cough*8minutes*

  3. I’ll believe it when I see it. As of now I don’t believe it. None op Bay’s films have every tested poorly. Amazing, Spectacular, awesome is usually what I hear people saying when they come out of the theater. They use those tearms why too loosely. “Fucking Awesome” is the tearm I used when I walked out of The Matrix. I doubt I will be using that term when I see Transformer. Have I already made up my mind about this move? YES! Fool my one shame on you(Pearl Harbor), fool me twice shame on me(Armagedon), fool me three times(The Island)…..blah blah blah. Transformers can only be a good movie in my mind, it can never be greatness because of the creative mind behind the project. Once James Cameron tackles the action mech genre then we can start throwing words like “fucking awesome around”

PS: Fantastic Four 2 “fucking sucked”

  4. That’s the kind of news we need on a miserable Sunday. Thanks in advance Sharon.

And thank you Robert(wolf)! I thought i was the only Brit who’d noticed the insanity of opening Transformers on the same day as The Simpsons Movie. I’ve been moaning about it enough for the last few months. The reason for this, it seems, is because Dreamworks has Shrek 3 opening here at the end of June, then there is Harry Potter in mid July, and the football i suppose. Here’s a suggestion:

Just put Shrek 3 direct to DVD……..it’s shit.

The bright side to this is that July 27th is very close to my birthday so i think i’m planning to spend that Saturday on a crazy double bill of Simpsons & Transformers, with my friends, if they’ll agree to the insanity. After all, it’s a hell of a predicament for any film fan my age to have to choose between Simpsons and Transformers.

  5. Oh, and one more thing Jaysmack, you said:

“So let me get this straight: bad story, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad execution… Doesn’t that make it a bad movie then?”

Except for one little tiny minor thing. NO ONE has said it had a bad story, or bad acting, or bad dialog, or bad execution. So far, nothing but praise. You’re just pulling that out of your ass.

Why don’t you complain about how transformer has Betty White in it raping Darth Vader? Or make something else up?

I think that if it had ALL those negative things… all the people having seen the movie wouldn’t be coming out raving about it.

BTW, Sharon is an actress living in LA, and doesn’t even like VFX all that much.

  6. Once again Jaysmack, you’re missing the boat.

A movie has one single goal. ENTERTAIN PEOPLE. It’s not just all about VFX. Phantom Menace has the greatest VFX in the history of film for its time… were people entertained? No… they hated it.

And yet… everyone who has seen Transformers so far is coming out raving saying they loved it. Gosh… i guess there’s more to is than just VFX.

This is just killing you isn’t it? :P

  7. Needless to say I’m stoked, but I’ll bite my tongue (fingers? keyboard?) until the review comes up. My good man JAYSMACK made some good points.

  8. I’ve already read some of the so-called “reviews” from the LA screening and not one of them talks about the plot, which tells me there isn’t one.
The reviews all begin the same way, by apologizing for how bad the film is, then going on to say, “But it had transforming robots and that makes it the greatest movie that’s ever been made!”
I wonder if anyone can give a glowing review of this film without having to apologize for how shamelessly bad it is first? It’s nothing more than a SFX demo reel, so let’s just call it that and stop pretending it’s a movie. When we say “Fucking Awesome” let’s make sure people understand that we’re ONLY referring to the SFX, not the movie and defintely not the story, because there ain’t one.

How much you want to bet that we won’t see words like “Great script,” “excellent acting,” “believeable dialogue,” “strong character development,” in any review of this turd?

So let me get this straight: bad story, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad execution…

Doesn’t that make it a bad movie then?

  9. All of this good news is making me more anticipated everytime I hear it. Who knows, it may be better than the first Die Hard! Of course I’m kidding…right now… but what if it is?

  10. Hey great news John/Sharon im completely stoked to see this more than ever now!
I’ll be seeing an advance screening on the 28 of June so i’ll let ya know what i think after.

    peace.
