Russell Mulcahy To Direct Scorpion King 2

It appears The Rock will be heading back to the desert for more scimitar wielding action. We learn today that he is back in the saddle for a Scorpion King spin-off. We get the scoop from shocktillyoudrop:
Shock has been tipped off that Resident Evil: Extinction director Russell Mulcahy is moving from the arid locale of one sequel to another: Universal’s The Scorpion King 2.
The first film, a prequel to the studio’s “Mummy” franchise, opened in 2002 to a $36 million three-day gross – it made a grand total of $91 million domestically by the time it ran its course. Regardless of the reviews it proved to Hollywood that The Rock – who was mostly seen in The Mummy Returns as a CGI’d tail-shakin’ baddie – had star power.
Unfortunately, we haven’t received any further word regarding the sequel’s plot or casting details. A new “King” poses a tremendous opportunity for Universal to tap some serious cross-promotion as Rob Cohen heats up a third “Mummy” chapter.
I am no lover of The Mummy franchise. I may watch it on tv if I am trying to drown out the horrible sorrow of my life, but I certainly would not care to rent or own any of the films. I have interest in ancient Egypt and even still, the films do nothing for me. If I need an Egypt fix – Stargate is my go to film.
I hope this is good news for those of you that are fans of the franchise. The Rock is a man of much machismo and is neigh exploding with charisma. I think the Rock looks good with a scimitar in hand, it seems to suit him. I personally hope that if they are going to give his character a spin off that they set the film in the past. This would give us more sword fighting, and it would be an easy way to separate this story apart from the other films, that are set in the future.

I really like The Rock, but I absolutely hated Scorpion King. I can’t believe that they are doing this again….I can’t believe HE is doing it again.

Russell is THE MAN!!
Remember he was the one who directed the first Highlander movie
He’s cool in the way he spreads his talent between music videos and mainstream movies
He was very clever and inventive in 1986 with Highlander – I don’t care what people say – they ripped off a lot of his filming techniques

I LOVE The Rock, but I hope he’s not doing this movie. God, the first one was shit. He seems like a really cool guy, but e needs to pick better material or he’ll be on Celebrity Fit Club or some other shitty reality show soon.
Who doesn’t like the Mummy movies? They had more to do with Egypt that Stargate, which only gave passing reference to it.
While it is true Russell Mulcahy directed the first Highlander, he also directed the second. Some days you need to take the shit with your sugar.
BTW, and I’m surprised Doug and the int’l friends didn’t mention it…Russie loves them pyramids, kiddies! Givin it up for the sphinxes too…!
