Batman the Dark Knight – Joker Pic Revealed
Posted by Rodneyon 20. 05. 2007in News Chat
It seems that the Dark Knight’s official website is openning up little bits at a time. First we reported that the official site was live with just the stylized Begins logo. Then the site offered a campaign poster with Harvey Dent on it. Now the site has been “vandalized” by our favourite crazy criminal. The Joker. And the lunatic dares to show his face to claim responsibility!
In what seems to be a guerilla campaign by Warner Bros., a comic book shop owner reports to SuperHero Hype! that they’ve found Joker cards mysteriously planted all over the store, pictured above. The cards say “I Believe in Harvey Dent Too!”It seems that this has now been verified by the emergence of another website, IBelieveinHarveyDentToo.com, which shows a version of the Harvey Dent campaign poster defaced by Joker graffiti.

So if you go to the website I Believe in Harvey Dent Too you will see the above vandalized Dent Poster.
But wait a few moments and the poster pixelates itself away to reveal THIS:

I can see how when they described this version of the Joker a lot of people thought he would look a lot like the Crow, but now that we actually SEE the picture, I understand how the publicists behind the Dark Knight were adamant that this was nothing like the Crow. We thought it would be much longer before we got to see even THIS much.
I just love how CRAZY this picture looks. Its so gritty and real, and clearly the work of a madman. The scaring on his face almost makes you cringe, and the “do it yourself” cosmetics were surely the product of insanity.
Awesome!

I like it quite a bit. It just feels right. Kinda creepy too, I swear even the unfinished pixelated pic gave me the chills last night. I too am surprised we got to see this much so early, I always tought we’d get a Batman pic first. It’s Great!
I too love the gritty and real feel you get from the pic. It’s not the least bit comical like the original Batman’s Joker was.
Yes, this is exactly what i was hoping for! i really dig this look, its gritty and real and will suit the films tone perfectly. Summer 2008 cant come soon enough!
I’ll wait and see the movie before I make my final judgement. As of now I’m not too impressed. I’m not sure I like this realistic approach Nolan is taking. You know they call Batman a comic book character for a reason.
Creepy and sadistic looking! Just as I was hoping for.
sigh they’re dumbing down again… aiming this film purely at kids. Tsk tsk tsk.
Awesome…definetly in the right direction. I’m still interested in seeing what his hair looks like, and the rags he wears. The Joker Begins!
antonio sponozzi said a comment 2 back…that they are dumbing down, aiming this movie for kids…..that looks like a face of a very scary man….i think that was a biased comment…i still havent seen the last batman movie but this stuff right here looks very disturbed
totally dig the twisted look, nolan rules
Sampson, Spinozzi was being sarcastic.
erm yes I was being sarcastic…. thanks for the defence :)
wow….i didn’t think they would take it in such a dark direction…..that pic looks creepy as shit….this movie is gonna be INSANE!!!!
Well, I feel sorry for the kids who are going to get months worth of nightmares.
Ok, not really, but this shit looks to challenge the original Batman film with Joker: Insane and loves it!
I’m sorry, but I hate to deivate from the crowd…this pic isn’t good at all.
1. No hair. I really want to see the hair.
2. He isn’t smiling. You just can’t have the Joker unless he’s smiling. I’m sure you can pull off an evil, sadistic smile, but in this he’s just…meh.
Rodney’s comment about “do it yourself” makeup…does that mean he isn’t stained that way? Maybe I’ve missed some tidbits of news, but are we just gonna have a normal psycho that colors himself for amusement? Or did i misunderstand the post?
Mkfreak2,
– Spoiler – small, but some may consider it a spoiler -
From what I understand The Joker is going to have a pale, really light grayish white skin with green/brown hair.
The do it yourself portion, I believe, is only reffering to the lipstick and possibly the eye make-up.
Time will tell, but that’s what Batman-on-Film has said concerning the look of the Joker.
And I concur completely with Rodney’s take on the picture.
Insane, creepy, madman… all that stuff.
I love the look.
Did anyone else get the immediate impression they were ripping off ICP (Insane Clown Posse)?
Maybe it’s just me.
Rob Zombie’s stuff came to mind too….*shrug*
Anyway, I’ll wait till I see the film to make a formal opinion.
Was Heath Ledger replaced by Marylin Manson?
Anyway, from what I understand so far, Heath’s Joker does have a scar (somewhat seen in the pic- side of the mouth) and as the story “progresses” Joker’s outfit will soon become more “Joker” like (purple suit, greener hair) as his madness and/or obssession with defeating Batman increases.
Oh, and I believe in Harvey Two…Face.
(sorry, had to sneak it in)
Great ad campaign, though.
oooo- that is soo cool. i hope hes a total creep out evil psycho.
heee! im suprised they did this so soon if at all. but i hope it means they must have lots more to come. bring it on!
I like how the scarring around the mouth looks more like a cancerous growth…eww….but very nice nonetheless
I love it!
jarek – he does look a lot like shaggy2dope
Looks cool. The less we see the more mystery there is so no hair, etc. is a good thing.
I hope they don’t give much more. Even in the trailer.
That is bullshit! THEY SHOULD HAVE NOT RELEASED *ANY* PICTURE OF THE JOEKR WHAT SO EVER. God damn it!
I think that Nolan is the best thing to happen to the Batman franchise. The realistic approach is absolutely spot on and the creepy edge he has cut into “Begins” and now “Knight” I think are truly fitting for the characters he is portraying. Batman is a dark comic book and many of the character’s stroy arcs have most definately not been aimed at kids (Dark Knight, Dark City comes to mind). I like the creepy Joker pic and hope that in the movie he is as evil as he has been in many of the issues of the books (A Death in the Family for instance). I just hope Ledger can pull it off, but I have faith in Nolan.
Awesome. Just Awesome.
Man, I can’t wait for this movie. I love stuff like this. Yes, ideally, I would’ve loved for the first reveal of the Joker to be in the movie itself, but we just don’t live in that world anymore. Everything about that picture seems to imply the tone most fans have been hoping for.
I like the direction they are taking with the Joker but right now I can’t tell from that one picture if the execution of the idea is good. Need to see better shots and from different angles before making a final decision.
Forgive my ignorance, but since I don’t read many comics/graphic novels (I hate panels, but if someone put it into a novel format I’ll read any Batman story put in front of me), is this based on a particular storyline or this a new story?
Somehow I got a sudden urge to scratch my face…
it’s very creepy and disturbing, i can’t wait to see the costume.
Jarek, the Joker story is THE most predominate of the Batman Villians. In the movies, before the joker was a crazy makeup wearing psychopath he was your run of the mill mobster psychopath responsible for killing Bruce Wayne’s parents.
In the comics, Joker was responsible for the death of Commissioner Gordon’s wife, and paralyzing his daughter (Batgirl) as well as the death of the Second Robin – Jason Todd.
Check out the wikipedia entry on The Joker, and you can see just how important this character is to the Batman canon.
It kind of reminds me of the Micheal Myers mask in a way…
First Rambo now this, everyone is giving away a lot of stuff early. Ledger looks great here, he looks right for the Nolan batman style. As long as he can do the sinister grin he looks the business. Lets wait and see if he can act the part.
love it just thought.. the “I believe in Harvey Dent TOO” comes up then changes into the jokers FACE. TOO FACE
heehe :P
Try sticking that face on a happy meal McDonalds:)
As much as we all praise Nolan, a lot of credit has to be given to WB as well for being brave enough to support him and his ‘not for the kiddies’ vision. I’m not saying the original Burton film was bright and cheerful but this is plainly going to be in a different league.
The question now is, since they’ve let Joker out of the bag this early, what are they going to show us at comic-con?
When is comic-con?
I dont really like it to be fair
Comic-con is at San Diego from July 26-29th.
Nice. They took down the image and it has a red “page not found” on it. If you press Ctrl + A, you see “ha ha ha” all over the page.
this has to be the cleverest hype machine I’ve ever seen
HA ha HA ha ha ha HA HA HA
want this film NOW!!!
see YOu In DECeMbER
That is what the page says if you remove all the ha ha ha from there.

I’m perplexed at that post you directed towards me. I never once questioned the importance of the Joker character – I’m extremely aware of how important Joker is in the series, I’ve been a casual fan all my life of the Batman universe.
I simply asked if anyone knew if this movie was supposed to be based on a comic/graphic novel storyline or if it was a new storyline all together?
BTW, you hardcore fans out there: direct me towards some good Batman stories – be it novel, graphic novel or even comics. I’m currently reading the collection of stories entitled “Further Adventures of Batman”. Pretty good stuff.
Jarek, I must have misunderstood your comment.
But I may be able to answer the questions with one recommendation. The more gritty and mature Begins and Dark Knight movies are inspired by the graphic novel “The Dark Knight”
I would also recommend “The Killing Joke” “Year One” the “Knightfall” crossover and even “Hush” All very good story arcs in graphic novel or collected format.
I sorry but I REALLY hope the picture of him is some kind of before and after view of The Joker. No matter how “creep” or “insane” people are saying he looks. It’s still not the Joker we know. In fact, he looks like young John Wayne Gacy and who the heck wants that?!
You gave Batman respect, Mr. Nolan, please to the same for his nemesis. Two Face is gonna have enough scars on his face for everybody, why would it be needed for Joker. Peace!
BJM
It looks like another attempt to destroy a perfect character. He looks like a cross between the Crow and Marilyn Manson, with a hint of Brendan Frasier. Now, by looking at this picture, I’m afraid it’s gonna be like X-Men 3. I heard Michael Caine was forced off the set of the movie due to wardrobe malfunction and now Frasier Crane is taking over. David Hyde Peirce is going to be Luscious Fox. Batman Begins was really good, but I’m skeptical of Heath’s performance as Frankentstein, I mean the Joker.
Oh yeah I’m getting a wedgie for all the wrong reasons :) This is freaky…creepy looking. This is the only movie that gives me a hard on!!. Now don’t laugh.
That’s not the Joker…that’s Ronald McDonald on crack! I disliked “Batman Begins”, and I think I’ll pass on “Brokeback Batman” (my nickname for this sequel). There is a reason why “Spider-Man 3″ made more money in three weeks than either “Batman Begins” or “Superman Returns” made in thier entire runs. Bring back Tim Burton and Sam Hamm!
Poe, you seem already disenchanted with the gritty real edge Nolan gave this franchise, so it is unlikely that anything he does that fits that mould will satisfy you.
And Spiderman 3 was horrible. It had a DANCE NUMBER?!?!?! Suck.
Spiderman made the money because of hype. And because it was rated so kiddies can go see it too. Spiderman 1 & 2 also made more money than the original 4 Batmans (Two Burton, Two Schummacher) too. Or anything by Hamm.
Money might be the bottom line, but it is never the equation to a good film.
Rodney, “good” is relevent to the individual. There really is no such thing as a “good” movie or a “terrible” movie. As a kid, I loved the 1980 “Popeye” movie. To me it was a great movie. A lot of other people thought it was a bad movie. You like “Batman Begins”. It is a good movie…to you. I did not like it. It is a crap movie to me. The only way to truley judge a film is by how popular it is and how many people like it. The barometer for that is how much money it makes at the box office. Actually, I wish Hollywood would release the number of tickets sold for a film instead of just how much money it made. Going by number of tickets would be much more accurate. Needkess to say, Spidey 3 made way more money than “Batman Begins” or “Superman Returns” because more people liked Spidey 3…therefore it is a better film to many. “Begins” only made 200 mil…a huge disappointment by any standard (it couldn’t even break “Batman”‘s record in 1989 dollars…and if you adjust for inflation, “Begins” would rate 4th out of the 5 WB Bat films..only beating the hated “Batman & Robin”…another reason why going by number of tix sold would be a more accurate system-wouldn’t need to adjust for inflation…of course, then “Gone With The Wind” would still be the all time number one movie). Anyways, WB won’t get my money for “Brokeback Batman”. I think it’ll make 140 to 175 mil total. WB will need to reevaluate its Bat franchise once again.
I have said it before and will repeat it again. Boxoffice means NOTHING to the quality of the movie. If more people liked Spidey3, then why did Batman Begins and Superman Returns make more money in week 3 than in week 3 of Spidey3? So much for that angle you were working with.
You cannot compare this Batman Franchise with its predecessor. Kids were not allowed to see Batman Begins because of its rating and that SERIOUSLY is going to hamper its box office sales. Not to say it wasn’t a good movie or is more liked.
Furthermore, I never said you HAD to like Batman Begins or Dark Knight. But it is in a style and direction you DONT like, so are you really surprised that a character concept is revealed that fits well with the direction Begins started with?
Huh??? So, in a baseball game, whichever team scores more runs in the third inning wins, even though that team has less runs for the entire game? Spidey 3 didn’t make as much money in week 3, but the totals show it kicked Begins and Returns’ asses. It’s the final score that counts, dude.
Boxoffice means EVERYTHING in charting how well a movie does, and how many people like it. Again, I say quality or whether a movie is good or awful is all relevent.
I don’t like this trend to make superhero movies adult-oriented, shutting out the kids. These are movies based on COMIC BOOKS, people! If you want an adult take on a hero, go to James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, or Philip Wylie’s Gladiator.
I still contest that a GOOD movie doesn’t mean its a big boxoffice draw. There have been LOTS of good movies that don’t break the top10 boxoffice records. Also, there have been a lot of big boxoffice records set by crappy movies.
And I also disagree that just because these are comic book based characters, that this cannot have an adult feel to them. Thats just bullshit. Adults read comics. I am one of them.
I think he loks great and the whole “page not found” thing is genius…
but seeing the page full of “HahaHHAhahaha” makes me wonder one thing, WHAT WILL HE SOUND LIKE??? What will the LAUGH sound like?
i can’t wait to find out
If anyone is curious to the looks of the Joker, there is a website I found that has a teaser trailer … He’s gonna be VERY wild looking and insane …. I can’t wait for the movie !! If anyone is interested just shoot me an email …
oh yeah … and as for the picture above, looks nothing like what I saw. Maybe a “before” picture, but nothing like what i’ve seen …
