Avi Arad Discusses The Magneto Movie

Posted by on 16. 05. 2007in News Chat

mgnt.jpegAvi Arad has dished some dirt recently with reporters from MTV, we get the story and following excerpt via movieweb:

Directed and co-written by Batman Begins scribe David Goyer, the prequel has all sorts “of opportunities for the kind of things that [will] make [it] interesting,” Arad contended, including a look at his early friendship with and ultimate rift from Charles Xavier, the mutant who would later become the leader of the X-Men.

Given Magneto is already the head of the militant mutant organization known as The Brotherhood in the first film, will the prequel detail the steps he takes to form that alliance, perhaps highlighting such mutants as Sabertooth and Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique? “[Some] amazing surprises that happen in his life [are in store],” Arad coyly answered.

This news really isn’t anything new. We know the story of Magneto, many do not think this movie is necessary because of that. After Spiderman 3 I am getting wary about comic book movies in general. I fear greed may be rushing shit out the door at the expense of our modern day mythic heroes. Time will tell.

I love the magneto character but prefer to see him in the context of the X-Men films. He is by far my favorite character of the X-Men films and I just hope that if they do an origin story; they do it right. Magnetic control is one of my favorite super powers and if I had to personally choose one, it would be on the top of my list.

International friends, If you could have a super power, which would you choose?

  1. Nick says:

If I could have any power, I’d have a morphing ability like Mystique. That would be the greatest. Or to be invisible at will.

  2. krazie835 says:

I’d rather have Brett Ratner directing this movie rather than Goyer.

  3. krazie835 says:

I’ve always liked the Green Lantern but I would really like Wolverines healing ability I mean the fact that I would never get sick would be very nice.

  4. @spence says:

I would like to have the powers of Nick Scryer from the game Psi Ops. Powers include telekinesis, pyrokinesis, remote viewing, mind draining, aura seeing, and mind control. That plus Wolverine healing ablity and adamantium skeleton……my god that would be sweet ass……..

  5. ability to fly, x-ray vision and turn invisible

  6. Henry from Dallas says:

guys to be quite honest, i wiki’d magneto ad looked at his powers, and after seeing them, i can say that besides apocalyps, magneto is the most powerful mutant in the marvel universe. but im sure ya’ll knew that. so if could have anyones powers, gimme magneto’s hands down

  7. My special scecret power would be to get all but two of my sixteen spec scripts made into films or TV shows/films by me or someone else in a directors chair. Why leave the two out? Simple. They suck, and wil never see the light of day. Everything else? I’m too obsessed, for one of the pencils has to stick in the celing tile, so to speak.

    ******

As for “Magneto”, I have slightly higher hopes for the film. I don’t know about forming Brotherhood with Mystique or Sabretooth, but I’d definitely want Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, no question. On another note, I would pay even more dough if this were slightly morphed into “X-Men 4″. I have more hope for the film.

Anyway, is it just me, or is this gaining more momentum than “Wolverine”

  8. Phil Gee says:

I’m really, really looking forward to this one, as long as Mckellen comes back. More of him as Maggie is always good.

And i just wanna fly Doug, is that too much to ask?

  9. Daniel says:

That’s a tough question. theres always three powers that I wanted the most.

    (in no particular order)
    1. Iceman’s Powers
    2. The power to go in other people’s body’s
    3. Invisiibility
    4. Mind Reading
    5. Super Speed

  10. shane razey says:

My fav power I want, and I haven’t seen you guys say it.

    Stop Time…..

It renders most all other powers useless.

  11. Spazmo says:

    1. Super Strength
    2. Impervious to physical harm
    3. The ability to discern between hot and fat chicks after drinking alchohol solidly for 12 hours+

  12. Clay says:

I gotta go with Shane on this. Freezing time (and still being able to walk around) is tough to beat.

  13. Doug NAgy says:

I would want either immortality or hypnosis as a super power
