Apted To Direct Third Narnia Installment

apted.jpgLooks like the third installment of the Narnia series of books will get a new Director in Michaell Apted. We get the following story from moviehole:

Despite Neil Burger (“The Illusionist”) being approached to helm it, directing duties on the next “Narnia” film have gone to Michael Apted (“Gorilla’s in the Mist”), according to Aint it Cool News.

Andrew Adamson, director of the first two instalments in the cash-cow series, has decided to sit this next one, the film version of “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, out.

I usually dislike when Directors are switched out during a series of films. The Harry Potter franchise has had a few switch out, and to be honest I enjoy seeing what each director brings to the different films. I hope this rings true with Narnia.

When the books are already set in stone – it may be less of a risk to switch directors. It may even be the correct decision when different books have different flavors. I do not like Narnia as much as The Potter films, but it will be interesting to see if the director switch goes as smoothly in the former as it did in the latter.

I hope in the third movie they also have gorillas somewhere in a region that contains mist. Apted is good at that, and in such troubled times – we could use a hug from the comforting, hairy arms of the gorilla.

  1. Apted directed The World Is Not Enough which, Denise Richards aside, was a pretty damn good Bond film. He’s a decent director but I have no interest in seeing the third or second film in this series – the first Narnia was mediocre at best.
