God of War Movie

Never a big fan of movies based on Video Games, but here is hoping that we eventually see a turn and we get a quality hit. God of War is a fantastic game that has a great story. They announced they were making a God of War movie, but we haven’t heard much about it lately.
There’s a really good script written by David Self, who wrote Thirteen Days for Kevin Costner. I keep expecting them to call me and say it’s dead, but my fingers are crossed. We’ll be sending the script out to a huge-name director.
Now JoBlo continues to say that God of War has a “Halo like popularity” which I have to completely disagree on. But that being said, it does have its popularity. Does it need a movie? No, I dont think so. Its likely another decent plotted movie set in ancient Rome dealing with the Gods of Myth that they are tagging to this game for recognition.
But that being said, this is a whole lot of NOTHING being said about the movie.

First off, Halo is 10x more poplular than God of War. God of War is a awesome game, but to put it on the same level as Halo, is like saying Gilgi is a good as the godfather….A God of War movie, isnt a horrible idea, i think that it might be pretty good, i know it would make money…….

Look, I’ve never played this, but as soon as I saw the phrases “video game” and “movie” in the same topic, I immediately thought that this thing is gonna suck. And guess what? A LOT of people think that way about video game movies since every one that I can think of off the top of my head has been utter shit. Video games are VIDEO GAMES for a reason. The good ones only work since you are in control of the situation since yo’re playing the game. Who wants to go to the theater and watch a Doom movie when you can sit home and play it? Plus, if you really think about them, most video game premises are ok for a game, but onscreen in a movie it would be beyond ridiculous.
ummm Spence, where have you been? GOW has just a big a fan base as Halo. Halo just gets more media attention. But God of War is Huge.
God of War won sooo many awards, just check wikipida and it does have a huge fanbase. I think that they should make a God of War movie, it would be great if they get the right people to do the movie.
Dont get me wrong, God of War a sweet A$$ game, and yes it does have a lot of fans, but i dont think it has as many has the Halo franchise (halo, halo 2, halo novels, halo 3, halo wars) does….
Winning awards will not make a wide fanbase.
I have to agree with Spence about this. God of War is a good franchise, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the fanbase of Halo.
Alot of the awards that God of War won was voted by the fans. And there was tough comp that year, RE4, war of Worldcraft. Anyway, yes Halo is a huge franchise, and is more popular, and is alot more commercial. THat’s my main point. LIke I said before, it’s more media savey. More mainstream. 50 year old men know what Halo is. GOd of War is an underground phenomenon. It depends on it’s gameplay alone. That’s all I’m saying.

Just wanted to point out that God of War is based in Greek Mythology (Ares, Zues, Athena, etc…) not Roman. Kratos is a Spartan although not much like those found in 300. That said the game is fantastic but I don’t think it would make a very good movie.
Halo is a very good first person shooter. while i felt that it was missing some things to call it truly great, it was still very good. God of War is a great third person action title. you can try and debate who has more fans than what but look at the sales figures. it can be argued that since Halo 2 sold as well as itr did opening day, it can be considered the “bigger” game. but normally the biggest seller of any gaming year always seems to be Madden anyway. so until something knocks that off it’s perch, the Master Chief and Kratos can fight it out for number 2.
I really cannot wait for this, i love the alternate myths in this game and also cratos is a nasty piece of work… It will probably suck..but pleassseeee some one make a god film of this, please i love this franchise. Halo is more popular but i never thought much of its story. I think this is more worthy of a film. quote me on that fanboys

God of War is the mother of all action games. I’ve never had more fun playing this series. And it’s not just another story about Rome and Greek gods either.
The game begins with the protagonist of the game, Kratos, stating “The Gods of Olympus have abandoned me. . . Now there is no hope.” He then casts himself off the highest cliff in all of Greece. The game itself then goes back three weeks prior, showing the events leading up to his unfortunate fate as he is sent on a mission to save the city of Athens by slaying Ares, the god of war. And thats just the begining of an amazing story line.
I think it screams movie treatment. Name one movie that really is anything like God of War, besides the fact it takes place in ancient greece and deals with gods and monsters. The core story is very original. It’s a very adult and hard hitting story and the way the action is done is unlike anything ever done before aswell. Kratos is one of the best characters ever and the coolest. His attitude is uniq and his weapons and style of fighting even more so.
God of War is by far uniq enuff to stand out on film and I think it diserves to be made into a movie just as much as Halo and any other video game, and maybe even more so. Mostly cuz I think it’ll be easyer to pull off a God of War movie then Halo. HELL YA I think this film should get made! :) We’re at a time now where video games and comic book stories stand side by side with movies, and God of War is by far one of them.
Hot on the heals of 300 continueing badass creative time period action films, yes, this movie very much should get made. If done right ofcorse. ;p I say bring it on!

I played the game and as games go, God of War is one of my favorites. I don’t think there is enough in there though to make a decent film though, and if they do make one it will be rubbish. When playing some games I’ve often thought ‘yeah this would make a good movie’ BUT I’ve yet to see a game-based movie that is actually any good. If it is made into a movie I hope it turns out ok but I seriously doubt it will.

Best Shooting Game: Halo 2
Best Action Game: God of War
2 different genres…..2 great games

If they make God of War it would have to have a HARD, hard R rating do it any justice what so ever. There is so much blood and violence. There is even a section of the game that requires you to bang two whores at the same time hard enough to knock over a clay pot that has different magical items and upgrades, the first time I played I banged those chicks for over an hour!!
If done right it would make 300 look like an after school special.

just wondering how good are you at Halo, let me guess your one of these guys who just threw it on Easy and flew through it…..put it on legendary and see how boring it is, especially Halo 2, or play multiplayer online, not really boring…just wondering, i really dont know, does God of War have any type of multiplayer…..

As for your info buddy I started on Lengendary. Beat it twice and now its in my closet collecting dust. God of War is a fun anticipating game and has a great Storyline.

I think that Halo has a great story line, i think that both games have a great story line…..and they are both (I think) great games, but if you was to boil it down to sales Halo has God of War beat
And the online/LAN multiplayer part is beats any game, maybe except for goldeneye….but that is my opinion

any epic story told in a tasteful manner could be a wonderful movie. god of war is a fantasic story with huge potential to make it on the “big screen” but if they go and suck it up like tomb raider and doom then id just rather them not make it. god of war would need VERY thought out scripting and casting, soundtrack must be done well, and the cinematography must be done very unique. im all for the movie as long as they dong screw it up. and if it was anything like 300 i think it would be well worth the money to see it… and about the halo thing..its apples and oranges so dont compare the two.
I think GOW the movie would be a kick A$$ movie. just imagine, if the special effects used in 300 would also be used in GOW the movie then it would be a tremendously good and exciting movie. though the casts should perfectly match the characters.. some of u thinks that vin diesel fits the character of kratos but HELL NO!! anyways, with the technology we have today it seems that GOW would be great in the big screen
look halo is gay a bunch of fruit loop colored metroid rip offs with lazers dont get me wrong its fun but to compare it to a game like gow is just absurd theyre not even the same genre the closest thing to a gun kratos has is that bow and im sure we all know he’d kick any halo characters ass
I thought this was a question of whether a movie based on God of War would be anygood, not is Halo better than GOW. Fact of the matter is a Halo movie would be nothing more than another Doom/Aliens. If done correctly a GOW movie could be as epic as the game. Key phrase, “IF DONE CORRECTLY.” Either way I would love to see it and how it’s done. And one more thing about a Halo movie, didn’t they already make a movie where we invaded a alien planet and did alot of shooting????? Oh yeah, it’s called Starship Troopers, why would I want to see a remade modern version?
I will have to agree that halo has a bigger fan base, but that is not the question. If you think about it, GOW has a much better story line to it than Halo. I would really like to see a GOW movie. Much more than seeing a Halo movie.

I think a God of War movie should be made… regarding whether Halo is better or not, it’s definately more popular but I think that God of War is a much better game. This is coming from someone with both consoles and games. However, I think that with a great director, careful casting, and incredibly attention to detail a God of War movie would be absolutely amazing. As for cast decisions I feel I am as lost as the next person. If I were to chose who should play Kratos within a minutes time the names that come to mind are either Daz Crawford, Nathan Jones, or Vin Diesel.
To the people that say Vin Diesel, HA! He is a horrible actor and would only ruin the movie. That would make those who says video game movies suck look like brilliant (which most of the time they are right). Someone with some better acting talent should play Kratos. I would think that Dominic Purcell would do a good job. He’s big, mean, can beat some dudes up.
Forget about Halo. Personally God of War is one of my favorite games of all time because it has such a great story and is so visually entertaining. Those two qualities alone should make it a top candidate for a video game movie. With the proper cast and crew it could probably be just as big as 300 or any epic war movie… but with the wrong cast and crew it would most likely suck. As with any video game to movie they will have to get rid of a lot of stuff, but they wil have to make sure they don’t sacrifice any of the story, or the flow of the plot. I don’t know if it will actually be made but if it is I will definately be one of the first in line to see it.
Vin Diesel looks and sounds perfect for Kratos, but no way in hell would he do justice to the role. Its a shame he isn’t a better actor.
I personally love the fact that they are touching the Video Game market to make movies. I mean they need to find new material for movies. They either remake to old classics or use the same old Tired story lines they have always used. Granted Video Games do have some story lines that have been used in Movies, but Hey. What ya gonna do? I mean if You are truly a fan of certain Games Would’nt you wanna see what they can do with it?
The thing about Video games is that the script writers and producers look at the game and say Ok we can’t do that on screen, but what about this. They have to alter certain aspects of a video game to make it usable for a Movie. I mean think about it. Resident Evil. They had to alter it a little to let you think this is what coulda happened. Video games don’t have a complete story line.
Kaleti Williams is an up and coming Actor from Southern California. His profile is on IMDB and has the look and the body structure of Kratos…. (well he may need to get a little more ripped up…) Kaleti has a YouTube page at which he has posted his film projects. I seen him perform on stage in front of thousands as King Kamehameha and gave a standing ovation…. The Hawaiian people were proud!! You can get a good glance at his physical appearance on the You Tube clip. He was also in the Cars.com Superbowl Commercial as Glondor “The Ring of Fire” (You Tube). Let’s put some new fresh faces on screen… I’ve turn to Indie Films, Short Films, and Foreign Films for that reason!!

First off, this game is just as popular as Halo and secondly the Halo story line drawfs that of God of Wars’. If the script writers get it right! And hire the right actor to play the part of Kratos; I believe this movie could easily defy past video games that were made into movies.
This would be a great idea, as im a huge fan of GOW, and as far as it comparing to Halo..its hard to say. While Halo IS hugely popular due to its multiplayer, GOW obviously gained the popularity due to its single player. Take away Halos multi and it wouldnt be half as popular as the single player mode of GOW. And THAT is what makes a good movie, compelling storyline. But i was pumped with Max Payne getting Wahlberg and the movie left me wanting more, and if the same rang true with this then the brilliant potential of GOW would be wasted on a sub-par movie. Now days you only seem to get one shot at a box office smash. GOW gets my vote!!!!!
And someone made a good point about soundtrack..sure you need great directing, writing and casting but i think to some of my fav. movies and games like Gladiator and Oblivion and the soundtrack can be absolutely huge to the game or movie. That being said..Hans Zimmer would be amazing. His works list speaks for itself. And Purcell would be a great Kratos and hes not too huge yet..sorry, but Vin would ruin my image of GOW forever. Batista obviously acts (wrestling) and physically hes there but theyd be ballsy to make a gamble like that. Sorry guys

First of all…..I AM A CHICK AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE GOD OF WAR!! I have waisted many months of my life away on these games…..with that being said….I think a movie would be great……BUT NOT LIVE ACTION!!!!!!!! They need to make these epic tales the SAME way as they remade Beowulf. CGI or whatever you call it would be super sweet…..how else can you create KRATOS himself without this option, his weapons alone would look so fake in live action. Being compared to 300, Beowulf was waaaay better in terms of effects and visuals, with any live action movie, they still look fake! A DEFINITE R rating is a must…..KRATOS is a ravenous whore and killer! GO KRATOS!
to say one game is better then the other when they are completely different is just retarded, i have played halo and dont like it very much i love god of war, and would like to see a movie if it bombs it bombs but at least whoever made it can say they did more then anyone, who just sits around writhing about what might be.
