Underdog Trailer

Underdog-Movie.jpgWell, the first Underdog trailer, just a teaser, has hit the web. You know, it’s funny how a trailer can manipulate us. Up until now I had less than ZERO interest in seeing Underdog at all. I thought it was a stupid idea… and to some degree I still think it’s stupid. But I just watched the trailer… and ya know what… damn it…. shit I can’t believe I’m going to say this… I think I might actually be curious about this film now.

The tide changing element for me is the voice of Jason Lee as Underdog. Actually hearing his voice coming out of that damn dog actually gave a whole different stroke to the character that suddenly made me interested. I can’t really explain why… but it did. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Lee has the greatest animation voice in the world at all… but chemistry of that character with that voice just seemed to work for me. But who knows… it’s still really early.

Anyway, as I said it’s just a short teaser, but you might want to check it out. You can see the Underdog trailer here.

  1. Well, I’m not that smart, but I know what an adaptation is, fuck ya very much. I usually enjoy hearing your input Darren, but only a quarter of what you said made any fucking sense. Are you high right now?

  2. Adaptation? No, that’s NOT what this is, Lizard. Okay…so I’ll tell you what. Everyone who thinks this is cool, don’t ever back up Kevin Smith ever again when he tirades about his misfortunes on Tim Burton’s planned ‘Superman Lives’. Because, that ugly stepchild that never happened almost did, but that, too was “adaptation”.

    and to John:
    I watched the trailer.
I still think this will be a DOG and will leave something stinky to be stepped on in the backyard. My hopes have not been raised.

Jason Lee—I gotta call it like I see (or hear) it. His voice talent in my opinion, won’t save the film at all. Look, what can I say? I’m unimpressed.

  3. Ray, do you understand what an adaptation is? If anything it’s a good thing this is not exactly like the cartoon. What if Pirates of the Caribbean was exactly like the ride? If they adapted this to work well for the screen to show us a good film, as it appears thus far, we may be blessed with seeing something new and worthwhile.

The trailer gives me high hopes, but I worry I’m just setting myself up to be dissapointed.

  4. I’ve said from the beginning that this looks like it’s gonna be a cheesy, fun, good time. Jason Lee is the man. How could it not be fun with him as the voice?

Absolutely true to the character or not, I’m still looking forward to it.

  5. Yeah, except that the film is not going to be about “that character” at all!!!

Does anybody actually remember the “Underdog” series of cartoons AT ALL?? All of these people that love this trailer must obviously have never seen the cartoon. Underdog speaks in iambic pentameter. He is treated like a HUMAN that happens to be a dog, much like Brian in Family Guy. He is not an actual dog in a cape making wisecracks. In fact, Underdog NEVER made wisecracks.

I have no problem with Disney making a dog superhero movie. Just don’t call it Underdog, and use that name recognition to put people into the seats.
