  1. Not much of a Nicholas Cage fan, the only movie I liked with him in it was Leaving Las Vegas. I did see portions of this movie on HBO. Buying a ticket to see it nah. Pass on that.

  2. i somewhat agree…i don’t think it was a horrible bad movie..it was just not that good…and i enjoyed atching it for the most part…and if you’re going to complain about eva mendez showing too much cleavage well than ur just an idiot…i watched this movi for three reasons..nicholas cage…eva mendez’s right boob and eva mendez’s left boob

  3. As my family and friends can tell you about me…I watch alot of movies and I usually like all the movies (from horror, to love stories to whatever) I gave GR 7 out of 10. I did like it, I do feel somethings were edited out, Sam Elliott GR, I could tell there was to be more of him, especially at the end and they must have cut it out…I wanted to see him more and come to the rescue and help GR at the end and Peter Fonda saying, “Nice Bike” is a classic piece of work.

  4. Wow, is it really that bad? I’m probably not going to see this movie due to me being an all time fan of sci-fi movies, and due to my special “incident” involving Snakes on a Plane, and how bad that was.

  5. Crap, crap and more crap…this movie crapped so much I kept waiting for product placements by Ex-lax. Plot issues, continuity, the whole waiting-in-the-restaurant scene with Eva rivaled some of the worst high-school film scene I’ve seen.

I’m not saying there isn’t a place in our society for movies like this, but at least make sure who ever is working on the film knows how to edit it. Ugggh, patoooie.

  6. I loved the Ghost Rider movie it is another good movie by marvel comics. It could have been better but the movie was great.I think that everybody is being too hard on the movie because of the actors. It didn’t have an actor who nobody knew like on Spiderman which is also a great movie.

GHOSTRIDER KICKS ALL OF YOUR ASSES!!!!

  9. I must say, I loved this movie. I’ve always been a big fan of Nic Cage and he was quite good in this. And I thought the visuals were pretty nice too. I mean, this wasnt any Superman Returns or Batman Begins. But still, I’d go see it again.

  10. Are you guys kidding me?! Anyone who professes to be a GR comic fan and loved this movie is on crack and full of shit!

This movie was absolutely dreadful! It was horrible. I’m tired of people making excuses for bad films by saying “they didn’t take it seriously”, “It was campy fun”, ect.

this is fine for other films but problem is Ghost Rider isn’t supposed to be campy, cheesy fun. You can look at a film that turns out campy and laughable and go “oh, well they must have meant it to be that way”, but that doesn’t mean they did.

I’m not saying they made this film 100% serious, but from what I have followed of the production I really don’t think they completely intended it to be that way. They tried to make a real movie and screwed up, End of Story!

ALso, Am i the ONLY one to make the connection between the action scenes in GR and Mortal Kombat?! Anyone? That scene in the trainyard looked exactly like some of the scenes in Mortal Kombat, especially Outworld. I mean C’mon, we could have substituted Ghost Rider and chain for Scorpion and harpoon.

I am a Huge GR comic fan and I Hated this movie. I understand that non-comic book people look at the premise and go “oh, this can’t be serious, it has to be a campy, goofy, romp”. I am here to tell you that not only was GR mainly a horror comic but it was 100% serious and very suspenseful and dark. Go back and read some of the better GR stories and you will see what i mean.

I didn’t mind Nic Cage in the role, but once you read the comic book Johnny Blaze you will see how poorly written the movie version was.

Yes, this film was a mild form or goofy, campy entertainment and you may have gotten a few laughs, But ask ourself some questions:

Was this the film you envisioned when you first heard they were making a GR movie?

DO you really believe GR justified the budget they spent on it?

Do you really believe the people at Marvel Comics looked at this film and thought it lived up to their vision?

I’m sick and tired of people defending crap films by saying “eh, it was OK, it was mildly entertaining, i got a few laughs out of it”.

OK, mildly entertaining, mediocre films Do NOT cut it for this genre fan!
When the HELL did mediocre become the film standard in our society?! If you keep defending pieces of shit and giving them praise then all the Movie companies are going to give you is SHIT!

“ooooo it made $45 million opening weekend” Big Friggin Deal! All that means is that most of the moviegoing audience this weekend had nothing better to do or see and thought the trailer looked cool.
Does that make GR a great film?!

Does anybody have any balls anymore? I know Marvel does. They spoke out about how disappointed they were in X-men 3 and how it didn’t live up to their vision even though it made a shitload of money. Here’s hoping they tell Sony to take GR and shove it up their asses!

  11. lol, i really enjoyed it.

really, the only thing can be said has been said by gio and numerous other critics: if you think you might want to see a flaming skeleton riding a motorcycle and fighting satan, then you will enjoy it. otherwise you won’t. it does not take itself seriously at all.

i had a great time, and so did my girlfriend. we have been playing air guitar and yelling ‘ghoossttt riiiddeerrrrr’ ever since.

  12. GR pulls in $45 mill at the B.O. in its first week.

Well studio execs can’t be blamed when we moan and bitch about the quality level of the movie product being produced. X3, FF4 and now GR proof that the need for quality writing is not a prerequisite for big bucks. Throw a bunch of action scenes and SFX into a pot mix’em up and splatter it across the multiplex screens. People will come in and lick it up.

No more moaning and bitching please when films like this and Norbit rake in the big bucks.

I appreciate Batman Begins and the Spidey movies a whole lot more and am amazed they got made and released in the form that they did.

  13. Hey, folks. Sealer’s in the house. Some of you are now gonna smile and say “Sealer’s in the house–he’s gonna rip John a new one, he’s going to disagree, him and John will get into the thick of it, and WWIII will commence! Sealer defended GR last week…”

    Well, that was last week.
I started to have my doubts when the whole confusion over the critics screenings started. Oh, NY Post was in error..Sony did have press screenings. Then I found out the screenings were for a small handful of critics. A few of them were for sites like SuperHero Hype, which might be fine with reporting scoops, but the reviews they give on films adapted from comics is nothing other that an uber fanboy slant. That goes double for AICN,

Then I saw the TV spots. One liners. Yeck.
    Then I saw the film.

The Ghost Rider was great. The character. Not the film. Let me explai. I thought the effects were really good. But the story was crap. The character’s dialog was crap. There was continuity problems, leaps of common sense, and scenes that drag. The villians- Blackheart’s ‘help’ really wasn’t needed. Their sole existance in the film is to show nice CGI effects.

After awhile, these factors sarted to cross over in the FX, as since I cared less about what was going on, the FX started to lose its luster. When the theme from Rawhide was played, that was it. I gave up. I went to my pals at ChokingOnPopcorn, wrote up my review, and then emailed John. I apologized for saying (or thinking) he had a bias. I see above a commenter suggests John didn’t like the charactter to begin with. I really don’t think it matters if he did or not really. Fire and water CGI effects are tough to do- I applaud that the filmmakers gave it a go. So they postponed the film to woork more on the FX. Fine and dandy. The FX were fine. The story stunk. The FX suffers because of it.

  14. “Gio” sounds more silly than professional. Classic identity crisis. A shrink would have a field day. I hope there’s not a sex change next, ‘coz boy you’d make one ugly Giovanna. Or “Gia”, he he.

  15. Gio. That’s cool. Much more professional. In the post it says Gio, but in the review you say you’re JOHN; along with the John Campea graphic. You should probably choose one or the other.

    Just my op.

  16. no idea what the reviewer said about it, because i hate video reviews.
would sooner have a writen up one.

but i found this movie was a lot of fun.
i had no idea it was filmed in my home town of melbourne, austraila until it started picking out farmilar land marks.

loved the western feel to it.
hope we get a bigger budget second movie :)

  17. I liked it. I’d give it a 6/10, but I love comic movies and I really like Cage. Mendes is hotter than I expected too.

So…I have no point. I’d tell others to see it, it’s a good way to spend a Saturday. Especially if you go to the AMC before 12:00 and get one of those $4.00 tickets.

  18. I also had a lot of fun.
I thought all the effects dealing with Ghost Rider were awesome.
The look of the movie was pure comic book. Nic was great. Donal Logue was a trip. Sam Elliot and Peter Fonda were fantastic. Eva… well, she was hot and really that’s all I expected from her.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. In fact, all four of us came out with smiles on our faces. The theatre was packed too, and this was earlier today.
I just read on Superherohype that it made 33.6 mil on Fri and Sat alone. Looks like it’s well on it’s way to a 40 to 45 million weekend. It’ll probably drop off next weekend but that’s not bad.

It’s not on Spiderman’s level but it’s better than Daredevil or Fantastic Four. But then I enjoyed both of those movies too, so what do I know?

  19. Hi John,

I take it you were not a GhostRider fan of the comic book. I am and I found this movie to rock all ass!!!. The look the production, the kickasses of GR kicking the undead shit out of these creatures. it has his stare of death, it had a badass bike, the pointing thing he does kills and dead on. This popcorn movie in a whole, is just that a FUN ASS movie, I do agree it was not a masterpiece, but shit it was a fun film. I for one loved it and was jazzed about it. but thats ok , you can’t win them all, huh John. But TF is going to rock ass , we all know that one. ok later.
