Sean Connery “Considering” Indiana Jones 4
This is turning into a huge joke. Ok, here’s the large and the small of it. Sean Connery just did an interview where he said he is CONSIDERING doing Indiana Jones 4, but that he hasn’t decided yet and that he hasn’t read the script. Ok… ummmm… does anyone else besides me see the huge problem here?
The last I checked, Lucas and Spielberg were saying THE SCRIPT WAS FINISHED AND THEY WERE READY TO START SHOOTING. So here’s the pop quiz hot shot… is Sean Connery in the script or not??? Because holy hell… if he IS in the script and has any sort of significant presence in the story, what the hell are you going to do if Connery says “no”.?!?!
How the hell do you come out and say “Yes, we’re ready to go” when you don’t even know if one of your more major characters is even going to come back to play the part? So what are they going to do if Sean says no? Go back and start re-working the script AGAIN? Am I missing something important here? Good grief, this is turning into another “Halo” situation.

I’m just going to go out on a limb and say it…Indiana Jones 4 will NOT be made. You hit it right on the head John. This is another Halo situation. Halo was closer to being made than this thing is;)
Who ran the interview John? Just interested in reading what he says…
i think you guys might be over reacting. big deal if he hasn’t seen or read the script (yet), maybe he’s not in the movie. if he says “no”, i’m sure there’s a plan b. if he is a big part of the movie and he says no, then they can find another actor to play the senior… as much as that would suck. hopefully we’ll get news soon whether or not he is in the movie and whether or not he has a big part in it.
I have to say, I love the idea of Indiana Jones IV. Not as a movie, not as anything but fuel to watch you go off. It similar to Lucy and Charlie Brown and the football. You are at your best when you are engulfed in the flames annoyance, John.
Cheers.
Perhaps the interview was conducted before the script completion announcment was made and they still ran the piece.
Perhaps Connery has read the script since giving that interview.
There are all kinds of possibilities here.
An alternate version without Connery’s character may exist alongside the version with him.
And yes, another possibility is that the bullshit has begun again.
I don’t Indy’s father has a major role to play in the story therefore Connery would only need to provide a cameo. If the movie really is shooting in June, we should expect casting news really soon.
Hmmm….John, usually you give a link to your source. What’s the story here?
Jay may be right. This interview could have been done months ago.
It may just be a cameo as Drsartorius said (a la Robin Hood), in which case, it really doesn’t matter if he agrees to do it or not.
…and where exactly did this interview come from?
At this point I would rather see them make a movie about the making of (or lack thereof) of Indy 4. I’m sure the behind the scenes bickering, re-writes and haggling is much more interesting than the movie itself. I love Harrison Ford, Spielberg and Connery, but at this point, I’m done!
I thought I’d never say this, but:
If Connery is indeed in it, I’m not gonna see it and boycott this movie.
Don’t get me wrong, I love both Indiana Jones and Sean Connery to death (”The Last Crusade” is one of my favorite movies ever), but the embarrassment of watching an old Indy and his EVEN OLDER father is something I could not bear.
I mean come on people, who should play the female lead? Elizabeth Taylor? I heard Jane Russell is still alive, why not go all the way and cast her for fuck’s sake! This insanity has to stop and I still hope this project falls apart last minute.
Lucas, Spielberg: Stop kicking a dead corpse (well, with Connery 2 corpses to be exact) and don’t destroy the legacy of Indiana Jones with this last act of desperation! I beg you!!!
didn’t connery retire or something?
You don’t sound like an Indiana Jones fan Mozzerino. Just because Harrison Ford isn’t young doesn’t mean he can’t play Indiana Jones anymore. Ford can play Indy until he’s in his 90s for all I care. Indiana Jones works because he is played by Harrison Ford. Give me a break, you’re gonna boycott the movie? I hope there’s going to be a movie for you to boycott but I bet you’ll be one of the many people who will be waiting in line to see it.
Man, this shit is just………..UGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I’d love to see Connery back for this one, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if he just does a cameo or isn’t in the movie at all.
Ford is what makes the Indiana Jones movies so damn great. I have faith that Ford will have the same kind of charm to keep our eyes glued to the screen and faith in Spielberg’s vision to keep us in awe.
The writer for the movie has had a very nice track record and im sure he is trying to make the very best possible script.
At this point, Ford and Connery could play brothers in a movie. They would have to make Connery look real old which might not be hard to do.
the actor from serenity and firefly would make a great young indy or even make a franchise with him. i think its nathan fillian…
peace….
In regards to the actors:
If Ford can get in a touch of shape he’ll be okay. On set he just has to show he can run, jump and fight enough to keep the action flowing, which added with a good stunt double I’m sure won’t be a problem. Connery would most likely not have to do much physically. Age shouldn’t be an issue if they film this year.
In regards to the characters:
At the end of Last Crusade, Indy drank from the Holy Grail which is like the fountain of youth. I mean it kept that Knight who was guarding it alive for hundreds of years. Therefore, Indy should be pretty healthy. And almost the same goes for his father because the grail water was poored into his gunshot wound.
prophecy,
i think the whole “eternal life” thing only worked if they didn’t pass the seal. correct me if i’m wrong anyone.
thanks
Indiana Jones IV ??? Just quit it! Stop it! NOW! Move along!
People keep saying Nathan Fillion should replace Indy…
NO WAY! He’s a cool guy and charming in his own way, but come on guys, he’s nowhere near right for the character. Indiana Jones is a cool, laconic guy who you can imagine spending a lot of time in the library. Fillion has cornered the market in playing smartarse jocks who you can imagine spending a lot of time in the gym.
Don’t get me wrong, I really like the guy and like pretty much everything he’s done so far. But I think he’d be a horrible replacement for Harrison Ford and I really can’t see why so many people keep putting his name forward in Indy 4 threads.
Fuck replacing Indy. That’s so stupid.
Anyway onto the point… obviously, if they haven’t got Connery signed on, it’s probably a very small and insignificant part. Use your head, John, that’s obvious. They’ve already done the father-son storyline, so they’re not going to do it AGAIN.
To those STILL doubting, it’s **SHOOTING IN JUNE**. It’s happening. This is absolutely NOTHING like the Halo situation, give me a break. I respect those of you that don’t want it to happen, because as the self-proclaimed biggest Indiana Jones fan in the world, I’d prefer it NOT to.
But since it is, and since Spielberg, Ford, Marshall and Lucas have all OK’d the script, I’m SO down for another adventure with my favorite whip-wielding hero.
“i think the whole “eternal life” thing only worked if they didn’t pass the seal. correct me if i’m wrong anyone.”
You’re correct. People seem to never understand the end of The Last Crusade, but I thought they made it pretty obvious. Yes, the grail gave eternal life, but the price to pay was to stay within the seal. Once you pass the seal, life eternal is no more.
This isn’t uncommon practice, John. I doubt he has a significant role anyway. And he’ll probably take it anyway but is just saying “considering”
aren’t you always the one that says you shouldn’t listen to actors? Or is that just when it’s convenient?
I have to agree with DirtyRobot.
Just let it go, or this will be much worse than Halo ever dreamed.
Wait.
It already is worse.

Well, judging by the interview, he hasn’t gotten a copy of the script, which could mean he probably won’t be involved in the next movie and quite frankly even if he said no, I’m sure any gifted script-writer could simply remove the character and his lines from the screenplay or just edit out the scenes where he was meant to be used(assuming of course he will be used in this movie).
Because if he hasn’t been reached at this point, there’s a chance we won’t see Indy’s father in this one.
Uh you guys act as if Sean Connery is essential to the franchise. He’s only been in ONE of the films. They’re always mixing up the cast in these films. I’d personally like to see Jonathan Rhys Davies instead of Sean Connery (not a fan) but perhaps I’m the weird one.
