Spider-Man 3 Trailer

Spider-Man-3-Trailer.jpgWell it’s here. The new Spider-Man 3 trailer went up online tonight… and I’ve gota to tell ya… I’m not thrilled with it. As a matter of fact, think I liked the teaser that was out a couple of months ago better.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate this trailer. But I think perhaps my expectations were a little too high. I still have no doubt whatsoever that Spider-Man 3 is going to be amazing. The fact that I didn’t love the trailer doesn’t change that. But I’m pretty disappointed that it feels like they gave us more Venom in the old teaser than they do in this full trailer.

Oh the plus side of things, the visuals look great (although a couple of the shots looked cartoony… but it’s early still and I’m sure they’re going to work on that. The Black Spider-Man suit looks slick… and Harry looked better than I thought he would. But for heavens sake would someone please just knock off aunt Mae? Please??? She was cute in the first one, but the character just sucks.

So there you have it. Check out this full sized beautiful version of the Spider-Man 3 trailer here.

  1. The link doesn’t work for me, could be one of those international restrictions, but http://www.ifilm.com/presents/spiderman3 works.

The youtube link was great for the extra footage, thouhg as long as it wasn’t a set up for 4

Very glad they decided to use Sandman as he is a very iconic Spiderman villain. Mysterio listed as

One thing that really bugs me about the new Batman movie is that they are doing the Joker again.

  2. great trailer. though the animations on the CG spiderman still look as weak as spiderman 2, spiderman 1 worked well as it involved more live action scene and looked more believable.

    -Neil

and venom, i dont really give a crap if hes in it or not

  3. And if the link isn’t working for you….

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU8Gv4f-HbI

Okay, now that I saw it with sound, observations…..

1)There’s a shot of Sandman roaring that sounds EXACTLY like Godzilla. It’s hilarious. It comes at the 1:37 mark.

2)The lines sound forced, melodramatic, and shit, especially from Tobey, and that scares me.

3)I didn’t get the WOW feeling that I got from the Spidey 2 trailer. I actually felt kinda meh when it was over.

  4. Very underwhelmed with this trailer. Why oh why do they put out a trailer with unfinished special effects. It’s a real turn-off. Also, with something like Grindhouse, I can appreciate the gleeful over-kill vibe of the trailer. For the story-driven Spiderman films putting out a spastic Attention Deficit Disorder collage of all the great action shots is a real disservice.

I don’t know why I am rambling here about this teaser. My only major support to the franchise is loyalty to Sam Raimi, I found both the first spiderman films to be lacking something. I don’t know that something is a good musical score (something all the newer superhero flicks have been lacking compared to their older 70s/80s counterparts), better villians (at least their in-costume personas…both Dafoe and Molina were great when they were just being father figures to Parker). Maybe that is it, the spider man films rock when it is Peter Parker (esp. J.K. Simmon’s J.J. Jameson) and his life drama, but actually kinda get boring and repetitive when he is in costume…Weird.

Anyway to end this long rambling comment (which considering the length, I’m probably going to cut and paste in other comment sections!), I’m undeniably superheroed out.

  5. Maybe it’s the ‘purist’ in me, but I really was not impressed with the trailer. The action and effects looked fine to me, that’s not what bothered me. As a film-goer, I didn’t like the way the trailer was put together. No real coherent storyline for what the film is about (yes I get it that he gets the alien costume and dark revenge vs. being the good guy). I don’t need to see the whole plotline, but I also don’t need fifty 2-second clips of in non-chronological format.

Also, I don’t like the Sandman as Uncle Ben’s real killer angle. Even if it proves to not be true, I just see it as lame and a much too easy story vehicle. “We need Peter to be really upset and want to kill someone, let’s make him the guy that REALLY killed his Uncle! Yeah!” That’s something a first year film student would come up with.

Not to mention, I like it that they are going old school with the Spidey villains, but Sandman just looks weak. A guy made of sand? There’s a reason they came up with this guy in the 60’s. It’s just kind of corny for me. Are we really scared of Sandman?

Secondly, I don’t like the way the costume moves over Spidey. They show it kind of unfolding it’s way onto him. It should be sliding up him in a liquid form, as if they were using the same technology Cameron made famous in T2. Also, I would have liked a hint as to where it came from in the trailer. To just have some crazy suit that Spidey is using that makes him stronger with no hint of an explanation? How does that make sense?

I’m still seeing the movie, don’t get me wrong. This is just my critique of the trailer. I’m not a fan of “I hated it or I loved it” statements without some kind of reasoning behind it.

    Thanks all!

  6. Damn Burbanked,

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one tired of mindless internet hate. If you didnt like the first one, hated the second one, and have no desire to see the third one, why go to the trouble of coming to a spiderman 3 thread just to bad mouth it. Seems like a colossal waste of time to me.
I guess he had his reasons.

And seeing as how the Spiderman franchise has grossed well over a billion dollars I guess he’s hanging out with the 7 people who didnt like the movies.

    No hard felings, Tom
I just dont understand your motive.

  7. I think we need to at least entertain the idea that the Sandman really *isn’t* Uncle Ben’s killer, right? Like maybe that’s a plot red herring to create drama and conflict – to send Peter into a mission of revenge, that feeds the symbiote, etc.?

Again: if we like this franchise and we like what Raimi has done with it, TRUST THE GUY. BE PATIENT. GO SEE the movie instead of questioning every plot point six months in advance.

    And Tom:
“I’m not. I was scared off by the first two. At the most I’ll catch this thing on OnDemand.

I really think the internet crowd likes to make people assume EVERYBODY loves the Spider-Man flicks, when in reality everyone I know hated Spider-man 2 and either disliked or was ‘meh’ on the first one.”

It seems strange to me that you went to SM2 when you and everyone you know were “scared off” or “meh” on the first one. No one’s forcing you to go, not even the evil Internet cabal that is acting on Sony’s behalf to to make people assume that all of those hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of people who saw these movies multiple times and bought the DVDs were all handled over under duress.

Just don’t go see the movie, Tom.

  8. (haha, i just googled sandman uncle ben; i didn’t realize that the sandman/uncle ben thing was leaked back in july. anyway, i’m sure i’ll get used to it..)

  9. hmmm maybe i know what bothered me most about the trailer, and about the movie: the sandman is uncle ben’s actual killer? something about that rubs me the wrong way. just like i didn’t like the joker being bruce wayne’s dad’s killer in the 1989 batman. i think at that point of the trailer i found it hard to get into the rest of it.

when i set that aside, the rest of the trailer looks great.

  10. “Everyone’s gonna see the movie anyway, sucky trailer or not.”

I’m not. I was scared off by the first two. At the most I’ll catch this thing on OnDemand.

I really think the internet crowd likes to make people assume EVERYBODY loves the Spider-Man flicks, when in reality everyone I know hated Spider-man 2 and either disliked or was ‘meh’ on the first one. That’s another reason why you shouldn’t use the internet as an indicator of what people like/dislike.

And big box-office or not, shitty dialogue and dumbass characters equal a shitty movie, for me.

  11. i thought it was good, it got me excited to actually see the film. I really dont know why a lot of people aren’t liking it, nobody has really given any reason why they thought the trailer was “lame” besides the effects and no venom.

the movies coming out in MAY, its only November. you can’t expect perfect effects this early. akso i agree with the guy that said that it would be great not to see venom until the final movie. that would make showing venom that much more sweet, not knowing what he will look like on screen.

sandman looks cool, the scene where spidey punches a hole through him and sandman’s hand gets big and he punches spidey out the truck. the black suit effects were great, and having peter lust over the power of the suit is an interesting dynamic. topher should make a cool eddie brock and i will see this….and smokin aces, dark night, transformers
    peace

  12. This film was partly shot in my neighborhood in brooklyn, NY. Cant wait to see the full trailer. Toby McGuire chatted with people from the neighborhood, very friendly. Stuff they shot looked great.

  13. I agree with John. What a disappointment. This is suppose to be the biggest film of all time with his 300 milion dollar budget. With this trailer, they are gonna scare off a lot of people. Even in this forum half of the filmgeeks (and I am considering myself as a filmgeek as well) seem to be unsatisfied. This is just crazy.

Problem with the trailer: They are showing too much and they fail to accomplish intrige and an intense crescendo. If this would have been a low budget comic book film, it would have been pretty good, but this is simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH for this caliber of movie. The Spider-Man 2 trailer was waaaaay better then this one.

  14. Spiderman 3 trailer was cool. Of course I would’ve loved to see Venom. Personally, I don’t think Venom is really a significant part of the movie.

Anyway what’s more important is that I’m in LOVE with Serena Whitney ;o).

  15. Like I said, I would be pleased as punch if they dont show Venom in any of the trailers.

I like the idea of Venom being held off so I can experience the reveal at the same time the characters in the movie do. I feel it would have a much more emotional punch if done that way.

    My two cents.

  16. By the way, John

They havent given us any Venom in either trailer, but they did give us way more of the symbiote in this trailer.

The only shot of the symbiote in the teaser is the one scene of it going onto his hand. Then some Black suit spidey shots.

In this trailer we see that same shot of the symbiote on the hand, then another of his hand clinching the sheets, then another of it going down his leg, then another going over his chest forming the new chest symbol, then another going over his face and eye.
Also the scene in the bell tower when he rips it off we see the same shots but with tendrils from the symbiote arching between the rips and almost forming tenticles coming off his shoulders that werent there in the teaser. So, you see, we actually see a lot more of the symbiote, but still no Venom what-so-ever.

Then, of course, we see a whole lot more of black suit spidey.

  17. Thanks.

I try to back up people who actually make sense and have the ability to see the big picture.

I felt that you were one of those people so… bingo, bango… I back you up.

  18. I don’t think this trailer is going to bring anyone new to the franchise. If you saw the first two, you’ll see the third. If not, this trailer wont change your mind. It’s more of the same.

  19. Hey here’s another opinion that no one wants to here. Will I see this movie? You bet. I love spidey and I will buy the DVD as well. (probably) Now that being said, what’s with all the villians? Spidey versus Sandman, Spider vs. Goblin Jr. , Spidey versus the Black Suit from another universe (how are they going to explain that?), Spidey versus Venom, Good Spidey versus Bad Spidey/Peter…sheesh. Why cram everything into this one movie? Plus I keep wondering if Lowell/Sandman is going to order a Merlot…

  20. The trailer was good, not great, but good.

I agree with Burbanked, they shouldnt show venom until you’re actually in the theatre watching the movie.

Sandman looked awesome and the black suit spidey was very cool.
Obviously some of the effects werent finished but why would that bother me when I know they will be finished by the time the movie comes out. I got better things to do than waste my time being pissed about a few unfinished effects.

Whether the trailer was unbelieveable or not, I have supreme confidence that the movie will rock. The trailer just served to get me even more excited to see the final product.

  21. I didn’t have that many issues with the trailer. Yeah parts of the FX did not look finished, but it’s still early so I’ll give them a pass on that. Sandman looked kick ass and the plot looks pretty decent…I mean Parker has been getting his ass kicked around the last two movies, so one can only keep their inner anger and rage checked for so long…it’s gotta come out!

As for Venom, I think he is not going to show up until the last few minutes setting up the 4th installment, leaving Sandman as the main villian for this entire movie! I wonder if people will be pissed off about that?

  22. Previews clearly shows that movie seems to be focused on Spidey vs Sandman and Harry Goblin. Add in that the Symbiote Costume and you’ve replaced Spidey 2’s motivations issue with an inner conflict involving the Symbiote and Peter’s thirst for revenge.

All in all, smells to me like theres going to be a 4th movie with Eddie Brock-Venom vs Spidey…

  23. I agree with Jason, I think the reason they didn’t show Venom is to put the emphasis on the real main characters of this movie!! Personally I hope Venom is only in it the last couple of minutes, I could not think of anything better then for Spiderman 4 to be a Venom kickin` ass extravaganza!! Venom deserves a entire movie and I hope he gets it. The Trailer was good, nothing special, if i were a person who had not been a loyal subject of the spider franchise I wouldn’t of been tempted to see this movie after the trailer.

Personally, this and Smokin` Aces and The Dark Knight are on my list for next year

  24. That’s a good comparison, Kristina. Fortunately, Raimi and his Spidey-team have a quite a bit more talent backing up their efforts than the folks involved in the Godzilla ridiculousness.

I’m a firm believer that “less is more” when the filmmakers and the studio have the confidence and talent to pull it off.

  25. And Burbanked’s idea sounds like the Godzilla In Name Only marketing ploy where you didn’t see anything but his foot or tail until the movie came out. The movie sucked ass, but the campaign did get people interested in what the motherfucker looked like.

  26. Alright, I had no sound, so all I saw were pretty pictures with no dialogue. Some of the CGI(that shot of Spidey in front of the flag and swinging in NYC at night)looked downright shit, Dunst is still fugly, but other than that, I didn’t see anything overly bad. Is Gwen Stacy just gonna make a cameo in this, because I swear I only saw her once. There’s also a shot of Tobey looking really emo with his hairdo that cracks me up.

  27. I’m really surprised how many people didn’t like that trailer. Before watching this I was so-so about seeing the movie. I’ve seen both of the previous films and I’ve been entertained each time. There has been a lot of hype and speculation regarding the cast and the plot in the third installment, which I was afraid this movie wouldn’t live up to, but seeing this trailer I have no doubt they’ll pull it off. I know trailers can setup false expectations, but I think this may very well be the best Spider-man we seen yet. Perhaps I keep my expectations too low or don’t have enough experience in the movie industry to recognize flaws in rendering particles of sand, but as a fan and a movie-goer, I’ll be seeing this opening weekend.

  28. Sandman killing Ben is perfect! I mean that will only make for a darker Peter. Think about it. He thought he killed the guy who killed his uncle, but now he finds out all along he killed a semi-innocent person! This will only add feul to the fire thats in Peter’s heart. Add that with the simbiote suit, then we will have a very evil Spiderman. Maybe its the Batman fan in me, but I love dark heros.

  29. I’ve got a crazy, wacky idea.

How great would it be if we DON’T get to see Venom AT ALL before the movie comes out?

Stick with me here: is your decision whether or not to see this movie predicated on how good Venom will look? If so, then don’t go to the movie. You’re not a fan if that’s all you’re concerned with.

Personally, I would dig the living hell out of the Sony marketers if they found a way to keep the true movie Venom under wraps until the movie’s release. That game-art we saw the other day was fine; it looked like a hybrid comic/movie Venom, but didn’t tell us much. It would be the coolest damn thing in the history of movie marketing if we never saw Venom in action before opening day. I’d actually like to be SURPRISED by it while I’m sitting there enjoying the movie. I’d like Venom to come out of nowhere, to shock and amaze me, to appear or evolve or transform (ha) or otherwise jump out of the frigging shadows and zap the living crap out of my cynical moviegoer complacency. I WANT THE MOVIES TO SURPRISE AND THRILL ME GOLDARN IT.

It won’t happen. Because so many boards like this one complain so loudly that “we want to see Venom!” “show us Venom or we’ll say this sucks!” “boy there must be problems with the movie if they don’t show us VEEEENNNOOMMMMMM! WAAAAAAHHH!”

Can we please just get over it? The trailer looks great and Raimi hasn’t let us down with this franchise – if anything he consistently knocks it way over the wall. He’ll show us what he wants to show us when he wants to show us.

And BTW, we can’t be disappointed by seeing more Venom in the teaser because there was no Venom in the teaser – perhaps there was a teaser shot of him at Comic Con…BUT MOST PEOPLE DON’T GO TO COMIC CON and the bootleg footage that came out after that wasn’t any more than a blurry glimpse of more or less nothing.

  30. John, there arnt many times that I disagree with you. In fact 99% of the time I agree with you. Maybe its just me but this trailer made me wet myself. I FUCKING LOVED IT!!!!!!!

  31. Sandman is kinda cartoony. I prefer the ECW wrestler Sandman.

Besides that, THIS LOOKS FRICKING AWESOME! I have all the faith in the world in Sam Raimi. He has never let us down, I think.

This movie will do monster business. It will double Transformers in worldwide gross.

  32. I perfered the teaser. Why? Because this trailer was horribly put together. Now on that note I loved the clips we saw. The Sandman stuff look AMAZING. But we all we saw were bunch of cool clips, no insight to the characters. No JJJ, Gwen, Venom and not enough Brock, for a over a 2 min trailer you would expect so.

On the good side Venom will be in it for more then 10mins. Peter asks Harry for help as we see in the trailer. In the trailer you can see Peter half beaten as Venoms tentacle is around Peter’s neck.

The fx will be fixed, it’s way way early yet. Thought the trailer was ok, it wasn’t put together right and it felt rushed.

  33. I dig it. Would’ve like a full-on shot of Venom, sure. Would’ve liked Sandman to look less Mummy-ish… but it’s still cool. And it seems to set up the theme of the movie — revenge. Peter wants revenge on Sandman for killing Ben, Harry wants revenge on Peter for his dad’s death. They’re two sides of the same coin.

  34. Well I’m not totally convinced it sucked. I didn’t really know what to expect when I first watched it, it seemed that there was a great deal going on and I couldn’t keep up with the pace of the trailer.

When I watched it again however it seemed to get better. Its not the best Spidey trailer going but watch it a couple of times and it might grow on you.

    Can’t wait for this film!

  35. I thought this trailer was at least as good as any of the other trailers that we’ve seen for a Spiderman film. What I think was AWESOME were the effects of the symbiote suit. I love the way it crawls onto his skin, and that shot of him trying to rip it off looked great! Alien, almost.

While the sandman looked cool, I can’t get over what a reality-stretch his powers are. I could believe the goblin and Doc-Oc, but a guy who turns into sand? I honestly can’t imagine how they’ll make that even SEMI-believable.

Nonetheless, I’m anxious to see how this turns out.

  36. I prefer the previous trailer myself but this one reinforces my belief that Spidey 3 is still looking solid.

And John picking on Aunt May, tsk, tsk, that’s like dissing on your own grandmother.

  37. i was a little let down by the trailer. i am still really excited for the movie, i just thought that the trailer wasn’t as well put together as the trailers for the previous two movies. this was lacking that something extra, that was present even in the teaser.

  38. I noticed on the Spider-Man 3 site that the trailer is dubbed “Trailer 1”. Could this mean we’ll see a new one next year?

Either way, The Blockbuster War has officially begun!

  39. As the ol’ time-tested adage goes, “Opinions are like assholes – everyone has one, and everyone thinks everybody elses stinks.”

With that said, here is my asshole.

I liked the trailer. I may not be a fan of Maguire and Dunst’s work throughout the first two movies, or Dunst being cast as Mary Jane, and I doubt anything has changed, but it looks fun.

And with that faulty sentence said, the Spider-Man film series is not a great critical piece of filmmaking. I like to see its primary purpose as a fun movie.

Otherwise, I get a headache when I think of all the faults.

  40. I don’t give a shit that we didn’t see venom – the trailer is terrible. I don’t care that the “effects aren’t finished yet” they never should have released a trailer with effects in such a state. they look worse than the effects in the first one.

I don’t like the look of the whole “frodo” angle..like the suit is his precious…and I am a bit skeptical of the sandman killed ben thing too….

I still hold hope for the film as i love the first 2 but that trailer to me looks absolutely terrible.

having said that most trailer make bad films look great so maybe this is the reverse…a bad trailer and a great film..hopefully

  41. dissapointing

i mean, i know raimi and sony got mad because some people uploaded the youtube trailer the one they showed at the comic con

so i;m guessing they were actually planing on releasing that youtube comic con trailer but when they saw that it was on the net they change it, and gave us what we saw on iFilm which is a total crap.

don’t get me wrong it will be a cool film, but again they are doing the same they did on spiderman 2, they are not taking advantage of the vast spiderman universe they have in their hands, they are focusing in crappy plots while not making use of great storylines and plots that exist in the comic books and that some were used in the legendary animated series.

  42. First of all, Venom is probably only going to be in the last few minutes of the movie, so there’s no point to show it off in the trailer. Some of the FX did look lame, but Sandman looked freaking awesome. After the success of the first two movies there’s NO WAY they’re going to release a shitty third.

Second, I’m glad this trailer showed off more of the villains. We were barely given a glimpse of the baddies in the teaser.

Overall, it’s not the best trailer I’ve seen, but it sure is damn good.

  43. Hmm. Overall not a complete dissapointment, while it managed to sustain my appetite for now i’d be lying if i didnt say it was sub-par. Thoughts, yes would have liked to seen an actual Venom shot, “Night Surfer” (Harry Osborn) didn’t look as terrible as character art would have led us to believe. I actually didnt mind his overall look or feel. Sandman will be badass and should work out well (scene with spidey pushing his face against train, awesome!!!). Although the trailer didnt give us further detail on any new characters i beleive the movie will develop them well and the final product should definately be worth the wait. Still excited!!!

  44. P.S. the Casino Royale trailer blew. Transformers movie might be good, but it won’t break every box office record known to man. I still cannot get over that you said that.

  45. you piss me off so much John Campea. Everyone in the forums I visit loved the trailer and so did I. What do you expect from a trailer? Everything? The entire plot, all of venom’s screens, etc.? Give me a break. This trailer ruled and it gave me chills near the end. Why didn’t they show venom? it’s called teasing.

  46. Since I watch the new show ‘Shark’ with James Woods, I was somewhat surprised, because I thought I missed the trailer. Folks said it would show up during CSI, and I skipped CSI because I would up watching stuff on the Mayans, then the Ed Bradley tribute on Larry King.

I figured also I’d just catch it sometime over the weekend at my leisure.

But there it was, and I just got to say to Alex and alfie:
    Please pass the bong.

    I thought the FX seen here were GREAT. What the sam hill are you guys talking about! The only reason everyone’s PO’d is because we did not see the following characters in the trailer: Venom. JJJ, Gwen Stacey. Captain Stacey (although I thought I heard James Cromwell’s voice)…but specifically that first one. If Venom’s invovement in part 3 wasn’t widely known…you could draw the conclusion that Sandman is the main villian, with some minor menace from Harry Not Quite The Goblin, at least until he breaks his neck. {Harry still blames Peter for not trying to save his father, whether or not his attempt on Peter is before or after the symbiont takeover is unclear}

Sandman is set up to be a worthy opponent, and the trailer also confirms the speculation that Flint Marko may have had an indirect connection to Uncle Ben’s death. I say ‘indirect’, because a snippet showed Marko not knowing what Spider-man (in black suit) was talking about.

I also think it seems a bit odd to see Peter Parker get a mean streak, and that shot of Frodo, er, Peter, going after the ring I’m still not crazy about. But it is a selling point of the film.

I think a new trailer will come out when ‘Ghost Rider’ rolls in Febuary. They better show Venom. Even just three seconds of a long smily tounge, some fangs…

But I’m not disappointed in the first offical trailer in the least.

On a related note, I keep hearing this stuff about cameos by Sam Raimi, Avi Arad, Stan Lee and Bruce Campbell as ‘a film crew’ filming a “Spider-Man’ movie within the ‘Spider-Man movie. I take it with a grain of salt, but there is this stupid rumor of ‘villian four’ kicking in again, where Campbell is repoertedly given the name Quentin Beck. As far as I’m concerned, if it HAD merit, Beck isn’t “the fourth villian”. After all, John Jameson didn’t turn into Man-Wolf and Curt Connors didn’t become The Lizard (yet). Seeds of possibility could be planted, but if nothing else, it’s just a wink to the fanbase.

And that’s all I have to say about that ball of wax until further notice.

  47. I really liked the trailer. Yeah, some of the effects looked unpolished but i’m about 99% sure Raimi and Company will fix that before the film is released.

I don’t know. Maybe i’m missing something, but for me, this trailer was pretty damn awesome. The movie looks incredible.

  48. Tthis trailer was WEAK. I have had enough of movies showing FX without it being the final render. The teaser looked much better and was more exciting.

I was talking about this trailer alllll daaaay, and I am SO disappointed. I know we are all big spidey fans, and I’m the biggest fan I know (not to brag) but the flame is dimming!!!

I guess I can let my obsession rest until May.

  49. don’t pussy foot campea the trailer looked awful. the effects are terrible….bitterly disappointed. I love the spider-man films. LOVE them but that looked awful. I am still excited but damn that trailer was horrible.
