Schwarzenegger to play cyborg in James Cameron’s Battle Angel after he finishes politics?

arnold.jpg New rumors about Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the lead role in James Cameron’s long suffering project Battle Angel have started to circulate on the internet. There is a new theory of why the movie hasn’t happened yet, and it involves Arnold’s political career. The good folks over at cinemablend.com give us this:

By now everyone knows that James Cameron has decided to make Avatar his next film, while his other project Battle Angel Alita is put on hold. Clint over at Moviehole thinks he knows why.

Austrian Oak fansite TheArnoldFans.com says that Alita has been delayed because James Cameron is waiting on Arnold Schwarzenegger. Cameron knew Arnie might win another term (which he has), and that would have totally screwed up his schedule. They insist that Cameron wants Arnie for the role of the cyborg “Ido” in the movie. So now Alita sits comfortably on a shelf until Arnie is done screwing around with politics and wants to play a cyborg again.

I don’t believe this, James Cameron can’t be obtuse enough to be waiting around for an aging actor turned politician to finish his term so that he can play a cyborg role. No way.

This is simply a rumor, whispered about by fans of Arnold who can’t let go.

I have no desire to ever see Schwarzenegger in a movie again, I liked him back in the day, his in comedic roles were just as much fun to watch as when he was an action hero. But the dude has moved on. And so has most of the world.

If James Cameron had made this eight years ago with Arnold I would have been interested. The idea of the film still sounds good, but not with the Governor of California in it.

It may be that Cameron hasn’t made the film yet because of casting problems. But I highly doubt those problems have anything to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

  1. Btw, Daisuke Ido is not a cyborg in Yukito Kishiro’s masterpiece of a manga, at least not in the way, Alita and many of the Scrapyard’s inhabitants are cyborgs. And he’s the second main character next to main character Alita, whose original name in the manga is Gally.

  2. I am a long-time fan of the Manga Battle Angel Alita, by Yukito Kishiro, upon which this movie is directly based. I will confirm for you that the character of Ido is NOT a cyborg, hes a Cyberphysician who was cast out of the sky utopia Tiphares, and lives repairing cyborgs in the city below, called the Scrapyard. Ido is a softspoken, kindly individual in his 40s at most, and is considered a genius at cybernetics. The fools who started this Ahnold rumor obviously dont know the FIRST thing about the actual storyline. Do you really think that a director in his right mind would re-cast Ahnold as a scientist/doctor? The result is generally emberassing, if not downright ridiculous. Cameron is well aware of Ahnold’s acting range.
This is a lame rumor started with absolutely no basis. Cameron is delaying this movie to finish his other project, Avatar. On a final note, this is likely to be a high quality CGI, and who would pick ahnold for his voice acting abilities? I think SNL did a skit about it.

  3. I hope Arnie isn’t playing a Cyborg named Ido because that would mean cameron has made some pretty huge changes to the story in the comic. Since Ido is first off a Human and secondly Ido is a sort of Fallen scientist forced to hunt bounties in the scrapyard

  4. Darren you are right Arnold has not done shit since T2. He did cross the 100 million dollor mark three times though.

    1.True Lies
    2.Batman and Robin
    3. Eraser

  5. According to Wiki Ido is a human. I just don’t see Arnold fitting in here. Pure Internet speculation. I agree with Shannon. The reason why Battle Angel was delayed is because James wanted to test his new technology on Avatar. This way he gets it right for Battle Angel. James Cameron is cut from the same mold as a Tarantino or the Wachowski Bros. They work when they feel like, not by somebody else’s schedule

  6. Horrible i dont wanna sound like im bashing Arnold but his to old for action(if thats what this is) not to mention hes already played a cyborg people would imediatly compare this to terminator.

Not to mention who really wants to see his big man boobies?

  7. I have to side with Sharon on this. Regardless of Arnold’s age, the main factor is Arnie’s re-relection. On top of that…shall we be really be honest here? Aside from the third Terminator film, can anyone name one picture that Arnold has starred in that was an overwhelming success following ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’?

What’s the matter, int’l friends? Too tough a question?
Let’s cut right to it: like most other stars, some of Arnie’s bankability waned. As far as I see it, ‘T3″ was his swan song in films and/or to his fanbase. Unless he teamed up with Sly.

  8. I’ll side with Campea and say that I hope Cameron isn’t waiting for Arnie. Nothing against Arnold, but he made his good-bye from T4. It would be interesting if he does get involved with the project, but Cameron should know better. He did make Titanic (oh, I know everyone will reply it is an overrated shit, but it did break records. Hell, I liked it!).

  9. Like you, I doubt this is a legit rumor

but unlike you, I wouldnt mind it turning out to be true.

Call me a deluded fan grasping onto the heroes of my youth but if anyone could put Arine into a movie without it becoming a joke, I think it’s James Cameron.

I’m not saying I’m dreaming of this day, but I wouldnt mind it happening.

  10. Cameron and Schwarzenegger are good friends, so why not?
“Ido” is an old looking cyborg, so arnie would suit this roll perfectly.
it would fucking rock to see arnie back in movies again!!!
