Definitely read the books. I’m actually re-reading the series now and am almost finished with The Amber Spyglass. If they do this project right (and with Weitz directing, I’m intrigued…), it could be fantastic. Especially as it’s less about fantastical beings and more about the nature of religion and how it tamps down creativity and knowledge.

I think Kidman and Craig are perfect choices for Mrs. Coulter and Lord Asriel. Just awesome.

I’m really not a fan of Kevin Bacon but I am a fan of the “His Dark Materials” trilogy and trust me, they’re amazing reads. I recently read a note on the Pullman’s site in which he discussed a visit to the set and how impressive he was with the way the production is shaping up.

I’m excited. Very, very excited.

You should read the books first. I implore you.

There was a stage production done of the trilogy. They split it into two different productions. It met with some success, though much of the story was cut.

There’s a young boy that figures largely in the plot. His casting and acting with the girl playing Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) will be vital to the film’s success.
