Rachel Weisz hesitant about Mummy Three

rachel.jpg That’s right folks Rachel Weisz is dragging her feet with The Mummy Three. She hasn’t even read the script yet. The people over at movieweb.com give us this:

Last week, we reported that Brendan Frasier is set to reprise his role as the Foreign Legion soldier Rick O’Connell, featured in the Universal franchise The Mummy.

The script, written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) re-imagines the character in another epic adventure. The studio has made an offer to Joe Johnston, (Jurassic Park III) to direct the film being readied to begin shooting early next year.

EcranLarge.com reports that Rachel Weisz mentioned a few words about her possible involvement in the project: “I know there’s a new script but I haven’t read it yet. Nothing’s definite yet and should the film be done, it’s probably going to happen next summer. And if so, I would definitely like to be in it

Hum…interesting. I mentioned a few days ago on a post about Brendan Fraser coming back for The Mummy Three that Weisz hasn’t signed on yet. Now we learn that she hasn’t even looked at a script. She’s being very pleasant about the summertime shoot being good with her schedule but I really wonder if she will actually make it into this movie.

It is my guess that Weisz wants to keep her options open. She’ll do this movie if nothing better comes along. But the chances of nothing better than a third installment of a mummy movie coming along are slim. And besides Angelina Jolie I don’t know many newly Oscar awarded actresses that are looking for action roles. Most of the time they are hoping for easier shoots with challenging roles, not harder shoots with roles that they’ve already played before.

Of course Weisz will be offered a lot of money, and she, like Fraser may just like acting in this sort of movie. But my bet is that she will get away from this movie faster than you can flick the sand from a beach towel.

Talking about Oscar winning actresses in action roles? – Halle Berry in “Catwoman” and Charlize Theron in “Aeon Flux”. Hope Rachel Weisz makes the right decision, she has a good career going on. No need to risk it with a popcorn movie. I would like to see her in something new besides the mummy.

  2. Jasper says:

I disagree. We havn’t seen Weisz in a blockbuster for a while, and I’m guessing she wouldn’t mind a large paycheck. Plus, she owes her fame to the ‘Mummy’ movies. I think it would be fantastic for her to return as she was so great at playing the character of Evey.

  3. Peter says:

You got a point regarding the paycheck. And maybe it’s just me – I didn’t get to know her through “The Mummy”, personally that’s my I dont’t care much for her returning to that franchise.

  4. Chris says:

I remember a year ago or so, Rachel came out and said she wouldn’t do a third Mummy movie no matter how much money they offered her. I’m sure her negative comments could be found through a quick Google search. It seems she has softened her position on this quite a bit since then. I was surprised to see her even mention the possibility of being in a new Mummy film. Personally, I’m glad she’s open to it.

  5. Henrik says:

She said she definitely wants to be in it. That doesn’t sound anywhere near reluctant to me.

The headline reads like 100% spin to me.

It’s nice to hear Rachel Weisz is intrested in coming back. It would be nice to have her, as Brendan and Rachel Weisz have great chemistry. Hope that kid is in not way in this movie. Maybe they can say he is being sent to boarding school for being a bastard.

  7. Colin says:

Maybe she hasn’t read the script because it hasn’t been sent to her yet — from the context it doesn’t sound as if she’s playing hard-to-get.

  8. gorgoroth says:

Yeah, that quote doesnt seem to fit with the opinion of the post. Some of the comments reference other quotes that might, but the post itself seems to contradict itself.

Also, she might just not have time to read alot of scripts, having won an oscar, Id imagine that she has a lot them to go through. Bredan Frasier on the other hand, not so much.

  9. GODFATHER says:

I gotta agree with GORGOROTH and HENRIK. The title of the thread is very misleading, especially considering that Rachel herself states she’s up for it next summer.

As for her role in it, if everything plays out well and she can co-star with Brandon, it would make the movie flow well. But if it’s a prequel, it might just be a smaller role for Ms. Weisz I think. Gotta also agree about the kid (if it’s a post #2). Don’t bring him back. Send him off to a private school or something.

  10. Jason says:

either way im indifferent. i don’t think it’ll matter if she takes the role or not. her career is already in an upward trend and i dont think doing another mummy movie will hurt it if the movie flops.

  11. themarina says:

I’m not sure it would matter much to her career either way but it would be fun to see her reunited with Fraser. Hopefully number three will be a bit better than 2…Wishfull thinking, I know, but a girl can dream can’t she?

  12. Drewbacca says:

I agree with some of the above comments. The quote doesn’t seem to me that she’s hesitant. Just seems she hasn’t read the script yet.

She MAY BE hesitant, but I don’t necessarily gather that from the post. We’ll see. Maybe she just hasn’t even seen the script yet; that’s why she hasn’t read it. Just a thought.
