Tenacious D in The Pick Of Destiny Trailer

By John Campea - August 10, 2006 - 10:22 America/Montreal

Tenacious-D-Pick-DestinyJack Black’s 2 man Rock crew Tenacious D has had a strong fan following for years. The idea behind them is just hilarious. Then whispers started about a Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny movie. Well, I finally got around to seeing the trailer… and I’m not impressed at all. :(

Seriously folks, I didn’t even crack a smile once. I used to totally love Jack Black. To me, the man could do no wrong (if you haven’t seen High Fidelity, you MUST go rent it). But recently I’ve been getting bored of him. Nacho Libre was a huge let down to me.

But maybe I’m just getting jaded. Here, take a look at the Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny trailer for yourself and see what you think.

yea john I see where you are coming from it seems alittle disorganised and the jokes maybe be a tad dry. But for me hey is jack black, unlike you I have much faith in jack black. All he needs to do is, is to pickup a script as fresh as school of rock (one of my funniest movies) hire a director that will let jack runaway with the charicter and then you have a good mix. I havn’t seen nacho libres yet what was it like?

The Tenacious D. album was so awesome that I don’t believe this will be bad. The trailer did look weak.

I still have hope. I’ll just go with the excuse that a trailer can’t do this rocking film justice.

  3. Brian says:

I really hope so yea the album was really good- not for everyone mind.. but its definaty out there and got itself noticed… i love tribute, you have to see music video,,, so comical

whatever. this looks good and it seems that it has the same feel of the Tenacious D CD. I’m all for it ’cause that CD was HILARIOUS. Count me in motruckas.

  5. Kristina says:

I’m not into the D, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE School of Rock. I’ll give this a shot.

  6. HeroStew.com says:

He was HILARIOUS in King Kong. Even when he wasn’t trying ;)

  7. slybri says:

I was kinda hoping for some crazy fantasy movie based on their “Wonderboy” video.

This looks more like a really cheap rip off of “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.”

I guess I’ll catch it on video.

  8. carl says:

ive been looking forward to this one for ages.
i hope its not going to let me down, if its as funny as the tribute video thats good enough for me.

  9. Norddeth says:

Im not too worried, its a poorly cut trailer is all, nothing in there gave me pause, but the trailer had no pacing to it and really just gave a vague idea of the plot, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a better trailer shortly, because that could not have tested well.

There was some Youtube footage of the opening song shown at Comic Con but I can’t find it now. If the rest of the film is as funny as that I’m sold.

You’re right though – not a very funny trailer.

  11. miles says:

miles is excited, seeing as this is the firs trailer i am not to worried.

i saw plently to get me excited, but i love the D.

  12. wolf says:

The trailer was bad, but I think the movie will be good. The trailer was presented in such a way I didn’t get the jokes, I guess you have to watch the film to get the jokes. I have faith in this movie.

  13. Justin Flood says:

wow. Bill and Ted got fat.

  14. marty says:

Bill and Ted flashbacks here, too. That wasn’t very funny. I dig Jack Black but the gags in that trailer are right out of a Tim Allen movie or something. Comedy car crashes and ball-crushing? And that last joke, the “Amazing… ly bad” one, sucks.

  15. Sam Taylor says:

My only concern is that there will be no new material. They’ve been riding the success of the same songs since their HBO specials. Even the song in the trailer is from the specials and the CD. I hope they haven’t something sweet and new.

Other than that – it looked like classic D and that excites me to no end. If you’re not a D fan, John, you just wouldn’t understand.

  16. Ailie Robertson says:

what? man, i loved it. i love the d and i think this was a great movie. the album was fantastic and the movie was just so well complimented by it. its obviously not going to be a masterpiece, but i havent smiled and giggled through a movie like that for ages. plus come on, meatloaf and dio! excellent! im a die-hard fan and will not stop lovin the d.
