WOuld You See A Movie Before Noon For $5?

Posted by on 14. 07. 2006in News Chat

The movie theater industry has a lot of work to do to get people excited about going to the cinema again. But I like to give credit where credit is due. The theater industry has been trying small things here and there this year in an attempt to do just that. And I like this latest experiment.

AMC is going to try showing movies on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with a pre-noon starting time for $4-$6 (depending on what city you’re in). They’re calling the project “AM Cinema”. Haha… I actually like it.

You know what, YES! I could see me getting to a Saturday morning showing of Pirates 2 for $6, and then go shopping for the rest of the day, or hit the beach or whatever. I may not do it all the time, but I’m sure I could see myself taking advantage of that once in a while.

Like the idea or not, you’ve got to tip your cap to the AMC folks for at least trying new things. (via)

Love it! And the chances of kids being present are minimal. Doug would be in heaven.

I live in Oklahoma and our theater shows movies for $3.25 matinees and $5.25 evening shows.

I saw ‘POTC:DMC’ at noon last week for $3.25. Anyone who paid more is a SUCKER!

  3. common says:

at Vue (a major cinema chain in the UK) they knock a quid off the price before 5pm
    during the week

    which is great!

That’s genious! I most definitely like that idea! Time to hit up early style!!

  5. Tfunk says:

I always go to the early shows. No lines to get in, or clowns chowing down popcorn behind you, or idiots taking calls, or kids yelling “Why is he dead?”. It’s the best way to enjoy the movies.

    Effing Brilliant.

Haha, you saying you would see a movie then go shopping just made me picture you cavorting around town with the gals talking about how delicious Orlando Bloom looked.

Our theater chain has bargain matinees for anything starting between 4 and 5 p.m. Sort of rigid, but still a deal. I don’t see why they don’t do it for weekday showings after 10 p.m. And yes, I would go to a bargain morning show.

This is a movie in the right direction but I’d like to see this expand to more than just the US. I’m not sure if the chain has any theaters in the Great White North but I haven’t seen or heard of any deals quite like this one. The only deal I can still get is at Tinseltown (which is owned by Cinemark). They’re the only ones that still have a matinee and Tuesday special pricing.

They did this in Ireland when I lived there from 2001-2003. I dug it–I could see a movie, and still have most of the afternoon for other things. The earliest one was, I think, ‘The Hulk’ at 10:30am.

  11. Fender Strat says:

I have a theater here that on Tuesdays is $5 all day for all movies. Its great.

I lived in the Philippines many years ago and they had morning shows everyday. I just can’t recall if the price was lower. But this is certainly a welcome idea. I have not been to a movie theatre for over a year (shame, shame) but I’d go again if this happens in Melbourne.

My only concern: kids skipping classes on Friday.

    That’s a great ideia?
    lol…
That happened in portugal years ago

Ha ha – “new” idea indeed. This was done in my country (and I guess in most other European contries as well) since as long as I can remember. The tickets are also much cheaper here, we can make reservations…. you americans are way behind others in this regard.

Just got back from a 930am showing of Pirates 2. In Taiwan movies are almost always packed even the early ones. In fact most theaters will play movies till the wee hours of the morning (4am for last show in most places). The price unfortunatly is the same regardless of the time and cornflakes make the same amount of noise as popcorn. Now if they would only turn off their damn cell phones.

  17. Ramen Junkie says:

You know when I’d loe to see a movie for $5?

    How about after 6!

  18. Reality says:

Since when is matinee pricing a new idea?
for GOD’s sake people, this is nothing new. Here in North Carolina, it’s the norm, and has been for decades. All I can say is move the hell out of whatever big city you live in and pay a normal f-ing price. Quit blaming your job for the city you live in, because if you make enough money to drive there day in day out, THEN YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR A MOVIE TICKET.

I live in GA. Carmike has been doing this for…ever. I can’t remember the last time I actually went at night. Great idea for AMC…can’t believe this is actually new to them.

  20. Werdna says:

There is a movie theater here in Texas that has a buy on ticket get one free on Tuesday’s. I can just wait till Tuesday to see the newest release, I dont mind.
