30-days-of-nightAccording to the good folks over at Cinescape, Josh Hartnett has just singed up to star in the upcoming horror project “30 Days Of Night“.

Before Lucky Number Slevin, I had all but lost hope in Josh Hertnett… but he showed us something in Slevin that gives me a glimmer of hope for the boy. But my interest in 30 Days Of Night isn’t due to Hartnett… it’s due to this synopsis:

The script, written by Stuart Beattie and Brian Nelson, follows a local sheriff (Hartnett) and his wife who is also a sheriff. It is set in Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost town in the U.S. where the sun does not appear for more than 30 days during the dead of winter. An evil force emerges from the darkness, striking terror into the town. The husband and wife sheriffs are forced to choose between saving themselves and helping the town survive until daylight returns.

The script is actually based on a comic book that you can learn about here. I think this thing has a TON of potential. Sign me up and called me excited!

Now, I haven’t ever read this comic… have any of you guys seen it before?

Ummmm, I think you ment, “Sign me up and call me excited!” I could be wrong though.

Never read the comic but the story does sound like it has potential. As for Hartnett, he does appear to have a little talent under all those good looks.

  3. A.J. says:

I have read it and it’s pretty good. It has nice atmosphere. Reminded me of the movie Imsomnia… only reversed and with vampires =)

The art is pretty original also… wonder how it will translate to a big screen.

The original miniseries has also at least one sequel… but think it was inferior to the original.

  4. Drewbacca says:

Hartnett also showed some promise in Wicker Park. Check it.

hated hated hated wicker park. :(

  6. Steven says:

Even more promising is that David Slade is directing.

  7. Martin, UK says:

The comic is VERY COOL. Sam Raimi was originally going to direct but he’s not now. I heard on the radio today (Mark Kermode, very respected UK critic dude) that this movie is going to be directed by the British fella who’s just done Hard Candy (torture movie that’s getting rave reviews everywhere). I like Josh Hartnett, he’s very cool given the right material (Sin City, Faculty). This movie’s gonna rock!

  8. Ed R says:

First thought: ’30 days of Night? I don’t like him THAT much even if he DID direct The Sixth Sense.’

  9. gorgoroth says:

The book has a great premise, and looks wonderful. The story it self isnt perfect but holds up. If they can get some of the book’s style in the film, it will be awesome.

  10. ChrisP says:

What was a little bit more unique about the comic is that the hero is a Native American, which is rare in any story that doesn’t include horrible stereotypes. I spoke with my friend about the film adaptation and we both agreed that the producers would probably cast a caucasian dude instead.

  11. KellTrenzer says:

So this is a sequel to 40 Days and 40 Nights then…?

  12. mogulus says:

that ancient evil looks suspiciously like John Wayne Gaycee.

  13. Rebekka says:

does anyone know where 30 days of night is going to be filmed in new zealand?

  14. Jakeraven says:

Apparently being filmed right now in Wellington, home of Peter jackson’s soundstages and WETA. talked to a guy who reckoned he saw some cameras in an abandoned parking lot and a machine blowing bubbles and stuff on the ground that looked like snow. No idea if that’s true though. he’s usually full of Crap.

  15. Hugh Jackman says:

They havent started filming yet, but when they do it will be filmed in the South Island, the same place as 10,000 BC and 2 other movies. It was also one of the locations for Lord of the Rings..
