Warner Bros. to sell films via BitTorrent

Posted by on 11. 05. 2006in News Chat

Warner Bros. have announced that they will become the first major studio to sell and distribute their films online via bittorrent. The folks over at MSNBC said The companies did not specify a date but said the service will be offered starting this summer. Pricing is also undetermined, although individual TV shows could be priced as low as $1 and movies will be sold for about the price of buying a DVD, BitTorrent said.

I’ve always said… instead of trying to fight new technologies, media companies should find ways to work with them, and PROFIT from them. iTunes did it, and it’s working… looks like Warner Bros. have clued in too. Good on them.

People will NOT pay for shit if they can get it for free somewhere. You can take that to the bank.

    I don’t agree Kristina,

I think the model iTunes has set up proves otherwise. I think people generally like to be legit, and pay for stuff if it’s convienient to do so and priced fairly.

You can still get all you music for free pirated on the internet… and yet iTunes is doing HUGE business and it keeps growing. Why not with movies too?

I agree with you John. I know I can download that song for free but to be honest, I can’t be bothered the hit and miss of spending hours downloading stuff only to find that the quality is shit. If you can make it easy for me to get it for a decent price, I’m be more than happy to pay for.
