The $200+ Million Club

An interesting little article appeared in Dark Horizons talking about films with $200+ million dollar budgets. It’s an impressive looking group of movies.

Here’s their list:

“Spider-Man 3” – $250-$300 million
“Superman Returns” – $261 million
“King Kong” – $250 million
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” – approaching $225 million
“X-Men: The Last Stand” – $210 million

Now, they do point out that Spider-Man 3 and Pirates is still filming and thus the cost could rise… HOWEVER, for Pirates they are also going to use many of the elements on the third film which will reduce the cost.

Mary refuses to listen as she tells Philip to call off the relationship with the other woman.
    SOMEBODY’S TRUTH

  2. I can’t beleive these films have such massive budgets and still turn out to be rubbish films; compared to film made on a 15 Million budget (Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War), which makes for fantastic viewing and has far better effects.

  3. Ouch!

X-Men 3…I can sort of understand. The film was made in less than a year. Somedays, costs bloat because someone wants it NOW, cracks da whip and PUTS FOOT TO ASS. You got folks busting ass getting the film on time, on the estimated budget and so on. Then you got these idiot executives given seven minute sequences away. Thanks for the spoilers. All and all, I must have been tempted with eleven to twelve minutes (out of a reported hour and fourty five film) to date. I think if you seen the other X films and this trailer, you already made up your mind if you want to see it or not.

At least you know with all …that….that…stuff mutants, explosions, giant robots, ice FX, fire FX, walls being smashed etc…that stuff…is on the screen. If it isn’t? Hell to pay!

King Kong’s budget was on the screen..but it could have shaved off a good $10 mil in the first hour, not a lot would be missed. Still…

    Ouch.

But here’s the thing: Pirates is actually going to shoot two films. One’s out next month, and the other sometime next year. As reported, they are kepping several sets. Still…ouch!

But as much as I’m grooved about Spidey…ouch!
Maybe they should have stuck with one villian (Sandman) instead of Venom and possibly Green Goblin II.

They keep this up, the bad guy won’t even be Lizard for Spidey 4. Maybe not even Kraven. Remember those old Chamelon rumors? Right! HELL NO! It won’t even be that guy! Mysterio? You wish! It will be…nobody! Because they better open up huge domestically and they better open up huge abroad.

Personally, though, I think the budget of Spider-Man is not as high as some are making it out to be. Sometimes this is true, where budget estimates are nowhere near the ballpark where reported-and even the “estimate given” isn’t sure. That said, playing devil’s advocate here. Even if one were to shave off, oh, 40 to 50. That’s *still* a lot of pennies.

    Ouch!

    Hey…anyone see ‘Posiedon’ this weekend?

    – Bringing FOOT TO ASS, Sealer says …

    ouch

  4. I have no problem about the running time, but I’m very sure some people may have fallen asleep because of that. It looks like the movie will just have to settle with hardcore fans.

  5. Whats the real deal with Pirates of the Carribean? Did people actually like it or did they just get caught in the media created hype?

I’m honestly questioning if this is a guaranteed super-blockbuster. Think about it. The movie looks too similar to the original, Orlando Bloom’s career was peaking at the time, people didn’t know Keira Knightley was a pompous bitch yet, and it was still “indie-cool” to pay attention to the much ignored Johnny Depp. Times have changed, but the movie hasn’t.

Personally, i saw it again recently and was amazed at how boring it was. You could’ve shaved an hour off of it without missing a beat, the Orlando Bloom/Keira Knightley characters are really pretty annoying and even the mighty Johnny Depp wasn’t as funny as I remembered. I suggest people watch it again because this may be one of those movies where your memories of the movie is much better than the movie itself.

After watching the original again i probably will just wait for the DVD if I even care by then.

  6. WOW, thats alot of $$$$. I would have thought King Kong would have cost more as it used alot of CGI. But does CGI cost alot of $$$$$?

It’s funny also to think that Mr. Tucker is earing $25mil and that Spider-Man 3 budget is $300mil.
