  1. omg i can’t beleive you sheep who liked x-3 omg your funny, 3 of the cast members were bribed to return to x-3 Anna Famke and Rebecca, and to Kelly your silly Rogue and Bobby were only dateing cause Rogue wanted to know if what she felt for Logan was a crush like Jean told him in x-1 or something deeper and i think in x-2 proved it was love not some crush i mean she ditched Bobby not once but twice, and the looks she gave Logan in 1 and 2 were steamy she loves her Wolverine and Bobby knows it hell even David Hayter has stated that the love triangle in x-2 was Bobby/Logan/Rogue i feel that Singer Hayter were working up to a romance with W/R, two of my friends has told me both Anna and Hugh wanted W/R and even Singer was seriously thinking of doing W/R if he did x-3, oh by the way x-men 3 sucked without Singer and Hayter.

  2. I forgot to add that we have no definate reason to believe that Juggernaugt is a mutant in the film. If you lived in a world with super powered people wouldnt you think that he was a mutant even he was using the Cytorak crystal? Any way the walls in that room where Leech was being held were reinforced to stop any explosives destroying the walls incase of a break in like what almost happened you can hear this by the big Clang that Juggernaughts head makes when he hits the wall.
I would just like to say please dont complain about characters not being in the movie, they werent in it because they may not have been needed or would have possibly ruined the story.

  3. Hey I just have to say, that Im a fifteen year old kid who knows quite a bit about xmen. For all you “die hard” xmen fans who say that this movies shite, then your quite mistaken. The movie is good but not as good as the other two, yes.
They dont focus on wolverine as much as people say in this one you think they do because hes the only cool character left after Prof X and they have already made a movie focusing on him. People have to realise that there are tonnes of different Multiverses (language from the amalgum universe comic where DC and marvel combine to this wierd thing).
Cyclops was dropped because his powers actually couldnt have done anything for the movie and they also had jean get rid of him if you noticed so it meant that she had completely gone. Profssor X did die technically, but there are many reasons that he came back these are kinda hard to explain, you need to know the whole marvel time travel thing and have seen the section of the cartoon where Apocolips trys to dstroy then rebuild time.
There quite a few plot wholes yes and it can be said that it is not Halle Berry’s best acting. But on the whole the movie was a very good ending to the series(although i hope there is another) and any way I just thought people stop slagging off a movie so intensly cos you didnt like it other people such as myself did like it.

  4. umm i was just thinking – everyone says cyclops is dead but there isnt actually any proof that he is dead, they only find his sunglasses not his body and i know loads of you people will probably say jean/phoenix disintergrated it but she might not have, like i said there isnt any proof that he is dead.

PS: if you read this visit my website plz

  5. This movie blew a big fat chode. I am sick of wolverine always being the center of attention, and for god’s sake, turn up the violence and the rating! i would like to see wolverine and sabretooth really tearing into each other, i mean c’mon his claws are solid metal, when that shit goes in, theres gonna be some damage besides clothes ripping a little and people falling down or grunting. And was it just me, or was angel just a giant f*g, look at the way he ran out the window (why could he just take the elvator, they weren’t making him stay… this movie was just a big pretty showcase of mutants with no character or decent plot… oh and way to kill cyclops and xavier, you fucktards.

  6. What I liked a lot about this film at the cinema was the directing and editing of the action shots.

On the big screen when things moved up or people jumped down, I really felt it, the power of people jumping, flying and generally whizzing about. The motion shots were great.

But on DVD a lot of this was lost. Which is a small screen feature I guess. It’s the thing I missed the most.

  7. Well all together I thought the film was just okay. I’m am disapointed with many of the writing decisons (i.e. death of Jean Grey and Scott Summers even though I never like cyclops in the comics ne way). I am however happy that the cure is obviously temporay, and the Xavier is in a new body (director commentary indicates its the body of his identical twin so it will still be Patrick Stewart, and identical twin share the samw exact DNA so he will still have his powers, but now he can walk [if you confused watch the DVD with directors commentary through the credits and into the additonal scene at the end])
But the point is that they should have stuck to the comics, gambit should have been more involved, rogue should have stole lady mavels powers, and the character connections preserved (rogue and gambit, rouge and mystic, mystic and nightcrawler, wolverine and colossis, juggernaut and xavier, sabertooth and wolverine. etc.) All in all I guess I cant expect the movie to be the exact same thing as the comics, and if looked at from the stand point of just a movie with no comic history I probably would have enjoyed it better. Alas, I know the comics, and find the lack of proper research disappointing. I hope Bryan Singer return for any sequeals. All in all still better than a lot of the crap Hollywood is putting out these days.

  8. Yeah that spikie guy is fucked up.. he is useless to the story line.. and Thats all he can do. just spikes up and that about it.wot a useless piece of shit character that the director bring into the storyline.

  9. Oh where the fucking the blue guy that can teleport gone? he not in the movie at all.. he just disappeared after x-men2… what the fuck is going on……………….??? it isnt right… most of the characters in x-men2 are not in x-men3 and most of them died in x3.. that just FUCKED UP>>>>>>> im not paying for watching my favourite Characters died from a piece of shit story line.. i want to see better story line …

  10. Man I thought this movie is the best and i even skipped my class just to go and watch it. but it turned out really gay… it’s because Most of the main characters are died and some aren’t there at all.

i was hoping this movie bringing out the best in X-men and more Heroes.but Instead of bringing out more Heroes, they get rid of the heroes that make the story line more exciting off.

it quiet disappointed to see my favourite character died off in just 5seconds after he meet his Girlfriend “JEAN”. it just not right. i dont feel the movie at all. X-men 1 was ok, X-men2 was good, but turn out the X-Men3 was like a rose growing on a smelly fucking shit.

i was hoping that in X-men4, Scott will reappear in the movie again and hope the story line atleast trying to follow the comics even just a little.

the plots of this movie is just poorly unjustify and the script is unfair. I am always been the X-men fans since i was 10. and now im 21 and it just made me really mad after saw this movie.

I know most of you think that this movie is the best but to most of us that love X-men by heart will never think that way.
action was good but Not enough because main characters are dead since the begining of the movie. that just fucking GAY….

i see no points of this fucking movie though.. I’ll be waiting to see more explaination in X-men4. Hopefully!

  11. what about multiple man?? “i could use you” sez magneto. but only if you want to stand around in the woods on your own and get arrested. and it’s a bit of a stretch to undo all the deaths and un-cure everyone too. i wouldn’t wait for that to happen in x4. ps the bit with magneto crushing the cars is amazing

  12. Just saw this movie again on DVD and I have to say that I agree that this movie was great… If you never read an X-Men Comic Book or watched the Animated Series from the late mid 90’s. Iam not going to sit here and say that all the the X-men movies where bad, infact I liked all of them but they where so So Soooo far away from the Comic book that its kinda dissapointing to see that most of the X-Men where 16 year olds with no personality. The Rouge character in the Comics was great the movie version is a joke, Bobby as Ice man would be more like Pyro personanlity wise but obviously the people who wrote the X films must have never read an X Men comic.

X- Men 3 could have turned out to be the mother of all Super Hero Films, If this was trully supposed to be the end of all the X-men films why not Bring in the ultimate villian in Appocalypse? What Wheres to Gambit, why did Cyclops die in the first 5 minutes of the film? Why is Juggernaut a Mutant when hes actually not. What was the point of even introducing Angel? Why is colossus 18 years old and not Russian?!

The whole movie series left me with more questions than an actuall sense of enjoyment after watching all the films.

Overall its a fun film that actually takes itself to serious. It strays away to much from what made the X-Men so popular, I would have actually fealt better about these films if they where not called X-men but more like Weapon X because all the movies revolved around Wolverine. As a movie fan I give it 2 thumbs up, but If I had to rate this film on how true it was to the Comic I would have no choice but to give the whole series 2 thumbs down.

Ps. Did anyone else think those new brotherhood mutants totally sucked ass? I mean a guy who can grow spikes out of his skin? Eh.

  13. I would love it if the original director came back and made his alternative version of X men 3, that’s never been done before so it would be like history in the making. Having the same director come back to do X men 4 would not work as X men 3 strayed so far fromt eh original structure.

As for me opinion of the film, i felt the same way about it as I did about Terminator 3…as a film on it’s own it was ok with some potential but paid absolutely no respect to the original 2 which to be fair despite lacking certain things were much better

  14. x-men men must be a good movie if people are still talking about it. im still confused about xmen 4, is there going to be one or is it just a wolverine spinoff. oh and is there going to be a magneto spinoff I LUV ANGEL FOR EVA

  15. dude. this movie was sum shit on a stick.i hate it.

one. where the fuck wuz gambit, nightcrwaler, and everybody else that all the other comments talk about.

two. cycolps, xavier die, and wolverine wit jean?

three. non firey pheonix, looks more like the elf off lord of the rings when shes tryna get it from frodo.

four. retarded how much they frickin twist from the story line, i mean come on, jean and scott got kids!!!!!! cable and nathan?? remember?? how r they gonn b born wit both of there parents dead!

finally, i just saw it on bootleg and im glad i did cuz to see it in theaters would’ve pissed me off.

  16. Hey John,

I came across your movie blog, and I thought I’d share my thoughts on this third X-Men Film.

I do agree with most of what you said. It doesn’t have the emotional subtleties of the first two films, but Brett Ratner really surprised me here. This was quite a undertaking, and he did a fine job with what he was given.

There was one particular storyline that really took me by surprise, and that was the Phoenix storyline. Famke was AWESOME here, and I especially loved her “awakening” moments (the sequence inside the house was stunning–can’t believe I’m actually saying that about a Brett Ratner film, LOL). I do wish they could have explored her story a little more, but I also loved the stuff between she and Wolverine.

And you also mentioned Kelsey Grammer–I agree 100%. What a great casting choice. The scene where he meets Leech was definitely something you might see in the first two films.

My biggest problem is the same problem that most fans have already made known–too many characters, not enough development, and WAY too short of a film.

We’ve spent a lot of time bashing Mr. Ratner, not realizing the HUGE task he had set before him. But he truly did what he could with it, and I for one enjoyed this film, despite what naysayers might say about him. I think it’s a good experience for him as a director to have done something like this.

  17. Thanks John of the Movie Blog, glad you addressed that comment.

I just say the movie last night, and about to get fired from my job, because I’ve spent the last 4 hours looking up info on the movie.

Overall, I thought it was okay. Like the Godfather 3, it wasn’t as good as the first two, which makes me a little nervous about the next Spiderman movie. This movie was entertaining and since it is an X-men movie, of course you have to see it. The best part of the movie…

Although I’m sure most of you have seen it by now, spoiler alert:

…for me were the last two scenes. Old man Magneto looking completely broken, realizing that he could jiggle the metallic chess peice (good play off of the pawn comment during the big fight scene too) and Xavier talking through the guy in the coma. Those scenes alone has chomping at the bit for X4.

  18. why does everyone keep saying that there isnt going to be a 4th film? if they arent going to make a 4th film then why would they reveal that charles is alive at the end after the credits, and that magneto hasnt completely lost his powers? and also i know that they WILL make another film because i read in an interview with Aaron Stanford who plays pyro that he is contracted to do another x-men film(WOO HOO HE ISNT DEAD. I HAVE A HUGE CRUSH ON PYRO). oh and by the way i think x-men 3 was great although i can understand why some of you people might be disapointed with it. i thought it should have been longer and had either more characters or reveal more about the new characters they have.

  19. hi i have read most of the comments that are posted and a few of you asked where nightcrawler was, so i am gonna tell you what i know about it. well what i have read is at the end of ‘x-men the official game’ nightcrawler tells professor xavier that being an x-man and fighting isnt the kind of life he wants to lead then he leaves to live a peaceful life.

  20. UMMM…. PYRO doesnt die he was just knocked out.good thing he didnt die AARON STANFORD is me LOVE!!!!! Professor Xavier is definently not dead if you didnt know that you should watch the whole movie. He is alive just not how you think. decent twist. Cyclops isnt dead either ya know. They never actually saw him die all you saw was his glasses. and if the cure didnt work on Magneto how many over the other mutants do you think it worked on? I LOOOOOOVVVEEEEEEE Xmen!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Hey Remaley,

    You are not welcome here.

YES he does have the right to trash Halle Berry. Fans have the right to Cheer and the the right to Trash. That’s what this site is for.

Your kind of Moronic racism can go somewhere else. You obviously don’t know how to have an adult intelligent conversation.

    ~John of The Movie Blog

  22. it’s me again… i have something to say about que tay won’s comment~~~HOW DARE YOU! you have no right to be trashing halle berry and the way she acts! and if u thought they were thrwoing to much at u at one time, ur reallyt slow. when i read ur comment after posting mine, i was soo infuriated that im about to say something that i’ll probably feel bad about saying later…GO BACK TO UR OWN COUNTRY U CHINESE BITCH! I HATE YOU AND UR KIND! and for those of u who are reading this, scroll up to his comment. its pretty long and it’s between the middle and end of this page. it starts off with “sorry to disagree with the fans of this movie… no im not.” and then it starts trashing halle berry and how she plays storm. his name is (as i stated b4) que tay won

  23. This movie was totally amazing and Im really glad to see that storm got waay more air time and got to show off her powers more. but here are some things i found pointless:

    Rouge-was barley in the movie

Angel-had no purpose except saving that guy who was thrown off the roof by that girl that storm kept fighting

you see, i am a HUGE Xmen fan,so i really like all the encouragment coming from the actors/actresses of the movies, that there’s a good chance of an XMen 4. cant wait for that

  24. Josh G I must disagree with you. Halle had every right to speak up about the character she’s protraying. It had nothing to do with her awards and accolades, she just wanted her character to have a voice and show some leadership like Ororo has in the comics. I mean come on, Storm was worshipped as a goddess in her homeland of Africa. She gets to the U.S. and has nothing to say according to the writers and director of the the first two movies. WHATS UP WITH THAT? I see you didn’t say too much about Huge Jackmans character Logan having too many lines and screen time,(like he’s the leader of the X-Men). I thought Scott aka Cyclops and Ororo aka Storm were the leaders. So lets not confuse ourselves to the truth according to the source being the comic which has been in publication for 40+ or so years. Or maybe your just an Wolverine fan? Who knows. I myself being an X-MEN FAN would like to see big screen actors protrayals of characters that are true to their comic book counterparts, oh and the movie was good not great. I would have like to see a movie that stuck more to the comics. I still enjoyed it!

    LAYTA!!

  25. people ,people rember what the x-men means to you and me . a way to think that there more ….then just what we see in this fuck up life…i mean …if they can life with the shit… they go throw then dam it …i can get off my ass .. and put up with this crazy ass world…….the x-men let you know …that you should be youself and fuck with the world say… i for one love the x-men 3….but did it get a way from the way it should have been?? .. hell yeah it did ….was it to short ? hell yeah it was ….did we all pay our hard cash to see it? hell yeah we did …. we will go see the next one ..(if that is a next one ) ….HELL YEAH….I AM IN FUCKING LINE ..rigth NOW WAITING ….SOME ONE BRING MY SOME FOOD AND WATER ,,,,in all……… we love the x-men movies….and we hope for more…..

  26. I heard that when Phoenix was shot at with the darts and she “goes crazy” as my family says, you see the buildings get obliterated, you should see a part where Pyro and Juggernaut die.

Though I didn’t catch it my sister is convinced.

  27. even thoughit says xmen the LAST stand there ware too many loose ends for it to be the last one
!!!!!!!!!SPOILER DONTREAD IF YOU HAVENOT SCEEN THE MOVIE!at the end it has magneato sittind ina park or somthing at a chess bord and he put his hand out close to the chess peice and not many people seemed to notice IT MOVED!! so the cure dosen work and all mutant will get their powers back. Antother thing after the credits which no one watches there is a five second sceen where it proves that charles xavier IS NOT DEAD. i would really like too see and x men 4 with MORE ANGEL. he is my favourite character and i think he played his part well

  28. JAXXSON BRIGGS X-MEN 3 WAS A WASTE OF ALL THE GOOD CHARACTERS ,NOT TOO MENTION THAT THEY WERE MISSING SOME OF THE GOOD CHARACTERS LIKE GAMBIT AND MORPH , PLUS THEY KILLED CYCLOPS AND PROFESSOR XAVIER . WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO KILL CYCLOPS AND THE PROFESSOR ? I CANT STOP CRITICIZING XMEN 3 FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE !!!!!!!!!! XMEN 3 IS NOT SUITABLE FOR KIDS BECAUSE OF ALL THE FOUL SWEARING COURSE LANGUAGE AND RUDE WORDS, AND IT IS ALSO VIOLENT FOR KIDS , AND EVEN WHEN MYSTIQUE MORPHED INTO A LITTLE GIRL AND THREATENED TO KILL THE GUARD WAS TO MIND BOGGLING FOR KIDS TO WATCH .

  29. JAXXSON BRIGGS : THE START OF THE MOVIE I WAS IN SUSPENSE I THOUGHT THAT THIS, XMEN MOVIE NOT TO BE MISSED BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE ALL THE CHARACTERS OF THE XMEN IN IT , BUT I WAS WRONG THE FACT THAT THEY DID’NT PUT IN GAMBIT AND MORPH , WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND THE FACT THAT THE LEADER OF TH XMEN CYCLOPS DIES IN THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE AND THE FACT THAT PROFFESSOR XAVIER , THE ONE THAT MADE THEM DIES TOO !! THE PROFESSOR IS THE ONE THAT MADE THEM , THE ONE THAT RECRUITED THEM , THE ONE THAT GAVE THEM THE NAME : XMEN WITHOUT HIM , THEY SHOULD OF JUST CALLED THEM MEN WITH POWERS OR WOLF MEN BECAUSE IT WAS WOLVERINE THAT WAS LEADING THE WAY FOR THE XMEN AND IT SHOULDNT BE , THEY BLOODY HELL MIGHT OF JUST CALLED THEM “WOLF MEN THE LAST STAND”, BECAUSE WOLVERINE WAS LEADING THEM , OR THEY CAN JUST CALL IT “THE STORM AND WOLVERINE SHOW” , BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES THAT ARE GETTING THE ATTENTION . THE CHARACTERS IN THIS MOVIE WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE, THEY HAD NO STORY THEY HAD NO ORIGIN , THIS MOVIE IS A DISASTER !!!!!!!!

  30. I Think That X-Men 3 was Pretty Good Considering That They Killed Cyclops the Leader of the X-Men and Also they Killed Professor X , The Mentor , The Founder of The X-Men , The Guidance of The X-Men The One That Keeps them Tamed. When I Saw X-Men 3 , I Thought That All of them Would BE at The end To Face Magneto and His Goons , But I was wrong , They Killed Cyclops at The Beginning And That Lost The Real Essence of the X-Men , They killed Professor X Right IN The Middle of the Movie and at the End They were out Manned and out Matched and Out numberred By the Enemy , And It Seems Like They Were Looking For More Recruits , They Were Looking For Someone to Help Them , Because The Fact That Cyclops And The Professor Had Died They were Looking For Answers And More Mutants to Guide Them And Help Them And to Make Up For The Loss of Cyclops And The Professor ,It Shouldnt be like that ,They Made X-Men too realistic and Lost The essence . If your an X-men Fan The Whole being of the X-Men is LOST , THEY SHOULD OF CALLED THIS MOVIE WOLVERINE BEGGINS , NOT X-men. Because it concentrated on WOLVERINE AND NOT THE XMEN AS A TEAM , THEY SHOULD OF CALLED THIS MOVIE WOLVERINE BEGGINS NOT THE XMEN

  31. Did Magneto make that chess piece move at the end? I was looking away for like a fraction of a second and when i looked back the credits were rolling. Don’t ask me why, i know it’s foolish i should have been looking. But did it move???
On another note, I thought the movie was generally much better than all the previous ones beside the fact that they killed off like all the characters. I’ve never really read the comics so not sure how truthful the movies were in regard to this. Also not involving Gambit is a sad loss.

  32. I must say that i agree with that Kelly person about the movie. It was really good, not as good as the first two, but what can you do. I think that they were also completely right about the whole Rogue and Bobby situation. They should totaly end up together. Theyt are just such an adorable couple. It would piss me off to no end if they broke up. What do all of you think about Rogue and Bobby?

  33. Put me to sleep. Jean coming back reminded me of DALLAS’ ‘Who Shot JR?’ Anti-climatic and weak cinematography. A slap dash, “Who needs a script we have Halle,” job on the level of ‘CatWoman,’ which at least tossed in a sexy catfight with Sharon Stone. – During his promo tour Hugh Jackman was asked “Stage or Film?” He answered, “Stage.” Then added, “Oops!” Sums up X3 for me. A definite ‘Oops.’ 3 out of 10.

  34. There is not going to be an x men 4…can’t you read, the movie is called x men 3 the LAST stand.(Even the director said he was not coming back to make another movie…it’s a trilogy)All you guys are fuckin’ losers…get a life and stop arguing over a fuckin’ movie. You all are stupid asses…the director can do what ever the fuck he wants with the movie(if he doesn’t want to follow the comic, he doesn’t have to!) LIZZIE…unless you’re a phenominal actor then I don’t think you can play in the x men movies…start off in small plays and local movies and work your way up.

  35. Everyone seems to think that x-men 3 was horrible but I loved it and so did my friend so WTF! I love all the x-men movies but I’ve never read the comics, I’ve only seen the cartoon series. I’m going to see x-men 3 again and I hope that they don’t stop at 4 I hope to go see x-men5 and more. My fav character was angel and I really felt sorry for him and I would pay to see a movie about him. In the next movie there should be more of him and leech. I want to be an actor and if there’s any chance I could audition for x-men 4 I NEED to know.

  36. i liked the movie but i really miss gambit he was my favorite x-men he was funny and made the comics and tv show enjoyable. i loved the way he annoyed rogue.

  37. Did anyone stay after the credits ended to see the extra clip???

!!!!!WARNING DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE!!!!!

    PROFFESOR IS NOT DEAD.

  38. A POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Brian Singer comes back to do another X-movie . . .First scene he has Jean Grey wake up by the lake . . . and she says or thinks “Oh my God what a horrible dream that was. I better telepathically contact Scott and the professor to let them know I am okay.” PRESTO AND TADA! ! ! X-3 will be nothing more then a bad dream . . . because that is what it is A VERY VERY BAD DREAM.

LOL YOU ARE SO RIGHT BUDDY !!!!! VERY VERY BAD DREAM!!!!!

IF U LIKE ACTIO YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE

IF LIKE X-men YOU WILL KIND OF LIKE THIS MOVIE

IF YOU LOVE X-MEN YOU will be puzzed , trouble , lost, confused ! sad , mad , did I say mad and confused !! MARVEL WHAT THE HELL HAPPEN they sold out on us mavel sold out wTF …if you don’t have to budget don’t do the movie!!!

the rel problem with this movie poor characters development ..too short …poor story …but great action …

  39. Sorry to disagree with any fans of this movie…
No I’m not. I hated it! It literly turned my stomache.
Let me start off by saying, I don’t care if Halle Berry does have an Oscar, she should not be playing Storm.
She does not know what she’s doing. She tried to make her character a “hard ass” which is totally not Storm.

Next point, There is way to much getting thrown at you at one time. I wont go into it, incase someone wants to waste the money to see this.
The movie took Dark Pheonix and turned her into Steven King’s Carrie.
There was no big fight scene. Not in comparison to lets say Wolverine and Lady Death Strike. No one seemed all that concerned that their fearless leader Scott Summers is missing, Juggernot is made out to be a goofy jack ass, (not to mention he’s not a mutant people). And although Magneto is an awesome character, if they were going to do The Dark Pheonix saga, than they should have brought in Sinister instead.(I don’t know about you, but 2 movies with the same “bad guy” was enough for me). And what the hell happend to Rouge. The whole point of her character is that she has to live with the fact that she can’t touch any one. They just made her seem weak to me.
Wolverine and Beast wear the only good things in this movie. My favorite part in the entire movie was when Beast say “Oh my stars and garters” (thats not a good thing) The special effects were pretty impressive too, but good special effects does not a good movie make.

I understand this is the movie version of the story and not the comics, but it’s heartbreaking to see what you’ve dreamed of for so long (comic turned into movie), get destroyed right before your eyes. Even as a movie, it should still remain true to the characters we comic fans all know and love/hate. Thats what drives us to fans of the story in the first place.
I don’t blame the directing as much as the writing. I mean did they even read any of the X-Men comics? This movie should be recalled, and Marvel should make a public apology for it.

  40. why did juggernaut and pyro die so lame. its not like running in to a wall and geting head butted is gonna kill them WTF besides that the movie was great wat do u ppl think about juggernaut and pyro dieing like that?

  41. Just watched the movie yesterday – sorry to say that this was the worst movie nothing comparing to part 1 and 2.

Where the hell is Nightcrawler!!! – you use him in part 2 but no sign of him in part 3???

    Cyclope – dead??? hahaha

    Rouge – cured???? lol –

ending fight they show the kind is the cure – no ones powers can work near the kid – simply bring the kid near to phoenix all her powers will stop!!!

  42. yes me AGAIN i agree yes okay jean grey shud have bin a fire bird an rose in the air an stuff but its sooo much easier to draw a bludy picture than use cgi i think some of the commments hav been unfair but thats not for me to say and ps: YAAAy sumone else saw the pawn wobble ( ive been askin all my m8s an everytin lol)

    THE PROBLEMS
(THE FOLLOWING IS VERY SAD GRAB YOUR KLEENEX) SNIFF :(

Killing Scott in the first 10 minutes! WTF!

Killing the Professor in the first 20! WTF!

During the entire movie I kept thinking to myself.

Hhhhmmm this seems as if this movie should have been called Huge Jackman and Halle Berry meet people that may resemble the X-men.
Part of the movie you did not see was Wolverine slicing and dicing the director balls just shortly after Storm electrocuted them thus taking away his mutant powers of good decision making this caused him taking any character that might overshadow Berry and Jackman and oops killed em, oops got rid of their powers or oops give them even crapper lines and a less meaningful role in the movie. I know they are big time actors now and they need their fragile egos stroked. But come on. Can em them both for the next movie. As for the rest of the cast, they could have gone to the morgue and found some unclaimed copses dangled them around with rope dub some voices and had them stand in as the other X-men it would have made no difference.
As for the “cure” concept used in the movie what a joke. The movie itself needed a GIANT dose of the cure BAM right in the jugular!
I am so sad this had the potential to be such a good movie!

    A POSSIBLE SOLUTION

  44. Here is the IMPORTANT POINT YOU ARE ALL FORGETTING.

You have X-MEN comics which all have their own series of particular storylines. This is an X-MEN MOVIE, yes MOVIE which like another X-MEN series has its own storyline. No doubt it must relate at some level with the comic books, but this franchise has always been intended to be another SERIES specific to the world of MOVIE MAGIC. Think about the X-MEN EVOLUTION cartoon and take some understanding at the fact that it is also nothing like the comic book.

HOW CAN ALL YOU HARDCORE X-MEN FANS BITCH ABOUT THE FILM NOT FOLLOWING THE COMIC BOOK AND NOT USE YOUR SUPPOSED SUPERIOR X-MEN INTELLECT AND REALISE THIS FACT?

The film itself has a MISSION to portray based on its own take on the X-MEN saga and the FACT is that this film has been intended to be the LAST film in the MOVIE series. So a story as complex as this has had to go out with a bang in the realistic timeframe of a MOVIE and end the saga the way the director wanted it to end in whatever way he pleased becuase it was his own continuation of the MOVIE saga of the X-MEN franchise.

Read the key word you so X-MEN FANS – ITS THE MOVIE SERIES and not the COMIC BOOK SERIES! So watch it asthough it is a new saga of the X-MEN specific to the medium of MOVIES.

This is the movie to finally see what mutants vs mutants can do (and if they had more funding they could have made it even better but i shudder in excitment to think of what that would look like) in action scenes which are great to watch. In the MOVIE SAGA Wolverine is seen as the leader of the X-MEN and he continues to show us that he has what it takes to lead the X-MEN and the director does not hold back at all with him in this film. There are some SHOCKING bits in the movie which i will not spoil for you but you will be amazed at the direct approach of the X-MEN MOVIE SAGA. Yes due to the tradiotnal timeframe and intention of this film being the last had to allow for this film to not have alot of character development for each new mutant introduced but is simply not possible and is not really needed because as it is the last part in the trilogy this movie has to focus on those mutants who carried the first two movies, WHICH IT DID! GO WATCH THE MOVIE for the fact that it is the ending of the X-MEN MOVIE SAGA and you will enjoy it for the fact that it ends it with a BANG!

If they do decide to make X-MEN 4 (and they should) then the character devlopment can continue upon the aftermath of this movie and all i know is that MR SINISTER will be the one ressurrect the star-crossed lovers and more besides.

I also cannot wait for the DVD release which iam sure will have extended footage not used in the movie for all those little bits which made the story progress a little fast at times, well atleast i hope there will be.

That is HAX fact for you all.

  45. I’m pretty tired of all the negativity surrounding this film. You people are comparing apples and oranges. The xmen comic has run for decades, countless issues have been used to develope characters and storylines, how could you possibly hope to cram even a years worth of comics into three movies, not possible. I am a huge fan of comics in general and the xmen were my favorite. I have collected close to two hundred uncanny xmen issues, through the pheonix saga, the brood, the brotherhood the hellfire club, proteus, shadowcat, gambit apocolypse, the shiar. Its just not possible to portray the movies in the same spirit as the comics. For one thing, 80%+ of the people seeing this film are not die hard comic fans. They have no idea what the pheonix saga was, that juggernaught was not a mutant, that callisto lead the morlocks and didn’t have Flash-like powers, and i am sure they dont care. when it comes right down to it. You have to make a movie that is apealling to a wide spectrum of veiwers, which means that some artistic license has to be used. Are any of you so called die-hard fans upset that wolverine isnt wearing yellow spandex or that the juggernaut is not 8 1/2′ tall. Some things just dont translate well to the silver screen. Ignoring my comic book backround and looking at it from a average joes perspective would i go see a movie that had a character that was virtually invulnerable to any harm because he had a magic jewel(juggernaut) or that a girl could have the power to destroy entire planets(dark Pheonix) because she was born that way. No way, I would akin that to watching a star wars spin off featuring Jar Jar Binks, it just sounds to hoaky.
I feel that the xmen trilogy has upheld the major themes that made the comic books so great, are they perfect, not hardley. Are they entertaining, Yes.
For me, just the fact that hollywood has finally started to embrace an untapped resource like the comic book industry has me thrilled. I have found that even such movies as elektra, Dardevil and the Hulk have some refreshing qualities. I would much rather watch these movies than sit through another tired remake of the Fog, Bewitched, the Brady Bunch….
How quickly we forget how bad Hollywood can be. For you wannabe xmen fans that thought this movie was so awful, go rent the new honeymooners,Constantine, and when a stranger calls order a pizza and have a blast LOL.

P.S. I do agree that cyclops should have lasted longer but still bit it in the end.

  46. what i dont get about the end of the movie is… did the professor take the mind of some other man or was the body that died someone elses body? when he wakes up at the end the women calls him charles

basically, the body we know as professor x could be someone elses body the entire time and his original body just wakes up at the end

i dunno, its just a thought

  47. why?

why the hell did marvel allow this to happen?

I mean, okay, people might attribute it to artistic liberty in movies and the whole story being set in an alternate reality (per narration of the Watcher in the X-Men Adventures Comic Issue #1), but why kill off Scott Summers? didn’t they ever understand that the whole Dark Phoenix storyline was supposed to be focused around Jean and Scott?

And as much as i find Wolverine cool, i am sorry, but i cannot stomach what they’ve done to him in this movie. Wolverine is cool because he’s the guy who steals the spotlight without meaning to, not because the spotlight is on him to begin with.

The ONLY saving grace here would be (aside from the return of the very hot Famke Janssen and Rebecca Romjin-Stamos) would be casting Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Excellent!!!

    BUT overall:

    it truly truly truly sucked.

  48. I just saw the movie today with my daughter and it was great. Although being a fan from the comic era, there were a few things that I didn’t like. Juggernaut wasn’t a muntant so the boy shouldn’t have been able to neutralize his powers. Also Rogue gave up her powers and mistique lost hers. Even some of the other things I didn’t expect I did love the movie. I think it was the best out of the three but I am like everyone else I wanted to see more powers being shown off. Still a great movie.

  49. Waste! Waste! Waste! Complete dissapointment 2 the X-MEN Comics Storylines.

All i can say for this film..i mean com on the one 2 end the trilogy
    WTF?!?!
U just cant kill three of the main x-men & expect 2 get away wit it
WTF?!? IS WRONG WIT DIRECTERS THESE DAYS
Bryan Singer should stayed & completed the true version of th dark phoenix saga(with Cyclops n the rest)

They really need 2 make X4-The New Stand or sumething 2 make up 4 this SHIT! trilogy ender

And ofcourse find a way 2 bring back Prof. X,Cyclops, Jean Grey n end it the way FaNs want IT………X4!…..X4!…..

  50. people who havnt seen this dont read its not that big of a give away but just dont read

so yea im new at all this coment stuff i neva was a big fan of x men but i went and seen the 3rd movie cause i began to like x men after i seen numba 2 and pyro being my fav charecter i expected him to die but not in that gay way he gets headbuted and then u neva see him again and that pissed me off aswell as juggernaut running in to a wall and that being the end of him most ppl probley wouldnt care about this stuff but yea i was hopin it would be a good death for them both but it just wasnt :(

  51. THIS FILM SUCKS COCK AND IS FOR GAY FAGS LIKE VALENTINE WHO WATCH THE SERIES ON TV AND IS A FUCKING DISAPPOINTMENT COMPARED TO THE COMICS WHICH ARE BEAUTIFUL. THE FILM IS TOTALLY INDESCREDITED TO THE COMICS AND IS A TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT FUCK YOU DIRECTOR!

  52. Are they going to come up with a X4. In the very beginning…

They had a “training coarse” but before it was revealed as a training coarse at the bottom in I guess sub titles it said:

    In the very near future.

  53. I liked X-men 3 ok. I didnt think it was as good as the other two though.

I didnt like however the way the whole booby/rogue scene was cut short. I mean come on he hasnt been able to kiss his gf and now that he actually can all he does is hold her hand!!! I mean come on, he is a guy isnt he. What type of crap was that.

I also agree with most of u guys that they are not exactly following the comics. But i have to say that it doesnt bother me that much. I really hope that Bobby and Rogue will stay together for the long run ( Yes I do know that in the comics that is not what happens, but u all said yourselfs that they have not been portrayiung the comics very well). I just think that the way Bobb’s character is portrayed in the movies makes him way too sweet of a guy to ever leave Rougue, plus they are so cut together.

And why the hell would they have killed off Cyclops so early. He might as well have not been in the third movie at all! He was only on screen for a total of like 15 min. tops.

All i have left to say is there better be a whole hell of a lot of deleted scenes on the DVD, that would make me feel a whole lot beter about things.

  54. Rogue didnt kill anyone to get her powers she just put her in a coma. she attacked an airplane and i think it was miss marvel(warbird) who had the ability to fly and super strength. she held on to her too long and put her in a coma and stole her powers permanently. my question is if mutant abilities are based on genetics and your DNA then how can Charles tranfer his consciousness to another body that doesnt have the same mutant abilities as his original body.

  55. //spoiler alert!!

Some of these comments, concerning Xavier’s death in the movie aren’t very valid… because there is a secret scene at the end of the credits that you have to wait for, in order to see that Xavier did not actually die. He transfered his conciousness into the unconcious man shown in a scene in the beginning of the movie where he was teaching an Ethics class. This, if I remember correctly, actually DID happen in the comic books, however Xavier’s physical appearance stayed the same (don’t know why). He could use his legs with his new body in certain ways, however could never actually walk because he was unable to get in the mindset.

Concerning some peoples irritation with Rogues role in the movies – Yes, most of us are aware that Rogue did not follow Wolverine around in the comics, and she was dating Gambit, and not Iceman, however I think some of you fail to take into account that in the movies, all of the characters are a LOT younger. Rogue does not have the ability to fly because she hasnt killed anyone yet – and that’s the only way she gets any active powers. I do think that they should have included that story in the movie (where she kills that one pyrokinetic chick that gives her the flying ability), so that by the end of the movie she could kick a little more ass. But then again, she did go and get cured, anyway.

  56. one of the best things about this movie was beast, he kicked major ass and i thought kelsey grammar did an excellent job portraying him. i hated that they killed off cyclopse in the first 5 min. they did nothing w/ him and they never even showed him actually die, i was waiting for him to come back at the end to help distroy the pheonix. also, killing the professor was a huge suprise, but i didn’t see the part after the credits so obviously he is still alive mentally in another person’s body. the biggest upset of the movie for me was that nightcrawler wasn’t included. he was a huge part of x2 and they didn’t even mention him in the last stand. i really hope they make an x4 only bc i love the whole xmen franchise and i think they could really include many more characters and develope the ones that are actually left.

  57. this movie suck, they ruine the whole franchise. They could of make x-men 4,5,6,7……. if and only if they stay true to the comic. What the hell, how come Stan Lee appove such scrap? I wonder if he have anthing to say about the story line?

  58. in my defence i am only 13 but have a higher I.Q and shit like dat ( say the word geek an ill hunt ya down ) an i thought the film was alrite but i havent read a lot of the comics i agree about the point on the mutants = terrorists and humans=victims and dissagreed with it imensely I hope the next movie ( if ever made) is diected by the old _ compitent_ director then again i can’t say i could do a movie even a quater that good ( tthen again im not being paid millions and don’t have half of hollywood working for me

    cheers from ste

  59. X-men 3 was a bunch of republican nonsense!! We expect these narrow-minded xenophobes to mess with the laws in our country but now they’ve entered their ridiculous fears into our most beloved X-men movies. Clearly an anti-mutant movie, this director seems to have created an enviropnment where mutants are “terrorists” and the humans helpless victims who only want to help. Ratner, either Germanic or Jewish in sound, must have Isreali sickness and attempts to portray anyone different as being a terrorist. I bet George Bush and all racist zionist jackasses in the so-called isreali state loved this movie. If only we could make a cure for republicanism and unfounded Jewish thoughts of racial superiority. You can’t kill Scott in the beginning and Proffessor X too! I understand freedom of speech but if you say you are a fan of xmen and liked this movie, well you must have only watched the kid show cartoons rather than reading the actual material like a competant individual! If that’s the case, leave the commenting to adults, little children.

  60. perfect as in killing off tom cruise, actually if he was in the movie it would b even better if he dies in the first 5 seconds….not the first 5 mins

  61. jubilee was in the classroom with everyone when they were with the professor (the asian chick) i’m pretty sure thats her coz she was in the second one for about 2 secs. who cares about her anyway, her character would have made the movie 10 times worse!!!

the showdown between iceman and pyro was a bloody disapointment, like everyone said, they didn’t need to kill off cyclops…i wonder if that would have happened if someone like tom cruise was playing the character!?……in this case it would have been perfect!

  62. WHERE THE BLOODY HELL WERE…..

    -gambit

    -nightcrawler

    -sabertooth

    -toad

    -omega red

    -jubilee

    -white queen

-archangel (yes i know he was there i mean he might as well not have been)

    -bishop

im most disapointed about gambit as he was my favourite character

  63. collossus and wolverine are best friends in the comic…so far they have said 5 words together…whats up with that.i saw it again really good movie but lots could have been done too make it better.Rogue is treated like a piece of crap and she could kill anyone except for gambit….X4 BABY LETS GO FOR THE GOLD AND MAKE IT HAPPEN…OH AND THOSE WHO THINK THE MOVIE CENTERS AROUND WOLVERINE ARE RIGHT IT SHOULD, HE IS AN ALPHA MUTANT AND WE THINK THEY ARE COOL.JOHN I AGREE WITH U IN SOME DEGREE, GOOD CALL, I OWE U A BEER

  64. Did anyone notice that beast’s hair and blue form went away when he got near Leech. His blue form was not because of his mutant abilities it was because he tried to cure his mutant abilities with chemicals and turned blue and hairy.
And by the way I hated x3 as much as the rest of yall.

  65. was it just me that saw the pawn wobble when magneto nearly touched it ? it might just be wishful thinking ( i know its a bit less than moving golden gate brdge and crushing cars but hey ) and i 4get who ( sorry ) said that it was a hoax in the commics is it possible that the cure didnt just surpress the mutant X gene temporarily? i really like kitty but i thought what if rogue touched iceman at the end and in the last scene shot ice out of her fingers in fact i was practiccally w8ing for it hahahha i didnt see the end ! im nearly crying now so could anybody explain it to me pretty plz ? and i missed gambit also and somehwere on the internet i heard that thewhole night crawler being mistiques son thing would come out but i was thinking if mistique was that young ( and beautiful ) when cure wouldnt that make night crwler the same age ?!?!?! critisims aside i really liked the film but i wish they wouldnt have killed so many people i nearly threw something at the screen of the cinima ( sad i kniow but i dont care ) but if charles was transfered ( saw it up the page somewhere ) can it bwe possible al of the others were transferred?

    Rant over
    Ste

  66. WHAT THE F**K! EVERYONE BLOODY DIED! SHE TORE APPART THE PROFFESOR (although if you stay at the end of the credits you see he switched bodies into a dying man) AND THEY CURED MYSTIQUE!!! but what confused me is that if you were born looking differnt how would the cure change you because you were born that way. did that make any sense what i just said?

  67. Where to even begin…

The X-Men Trilogy was great but my main complaint for any of the movies was the same; the characters never followed their comic story line.

Rogue – Besides the first movie serves no meaning in the rest. I figured in three movies she would at least gain the rest of her powers from Ms Marvel or possibly meet Gambit.

Ice Man – His entire personally is nothing like the comics. He was the bad-boy, rebel, hot headed character. In simplistic terms, in the movies he’s a pussy!

Cyclops – Leader of the X-Men yet probably has the smallest role of them all.

Angel – One of the original X-Men yet no one seems to know who the hell he is.

Juggernaut – Not even a mutant yet seems to lose his powers to Leech & is Charles step-brother, none of this explained.

So I have to agree with a lot from above. Having Cyclops kill Jean would have been a much better ending. Those two have the most passionate relationship in the X-Men comics and yet you see none of this ever develop.
Clearly the two biggest roles in the film were Wolverine & Storm and everyone knows its only due to money. They wouldn’t come back. Halle Berry makes a horrible Storm and to see her lead this movie was stomach wrenching.
Beast was definitely the best addition to the X-Men Trilogy. His character was full of depth and finally we see someone kick the shit out of people.
One thing I did like with this third movie is finally they fight along side one another as a team. Before this movie really the only fight scenes you saw were between Wolverine and someone else.
Lets be honest here, there is NO possible way to include the depth that goes with each X-Men so I suppose the movies did what they could but lets just pray if they continue the series they pay a little more attention to details so fans are not so disappointed

  68. I loved the first 2 X-Men but this 3rd installment left me cold! They should not have changed directors because this new one really screwed up the story. If they do make a 4th movie, they really need to bring Singer back. In this new movie, they gave way too much time to Storm. I remember reading somewhere that Halle Berry threatened to not return because she was not getting enough face time in the X-Men movies. Back then I was hoping she would come back because she had been an integral part of the first 2 movies but in this 3rd, she is shown way too much at the expense of the other characters. I now wish she had decided not to be in the 3rd one. I hate that they killed off major characters in the movie. It was really not necessary to the storyline. I have to say though that my absoloute favorite part of the movie was the make-out scene between Wolverine and Jean Grey. That was HOT! Too bad it was so short. In the end, it’s a movie I would recommend for it’s entertainment value but really should have been done much better for X-Men fans. Any future X-Men films need to be longer in length with more attention to character developement and storyline plot.

  69. I thought the film was great. I went with three guys that grew up reading the xmen comic books. They all liked the movie and felt there was enough mutant mutalation. I however, got into the whole Wolverine love scene between him and Jean in the final segment. It was exciting to see Wolverine be able to stand up and do what he needed to do in the end fulfilling what Storm had questioned him about half way through the film. “Will you be able to do what you need to do?” “I do it because I love you.” What woman doesn’t find the appeal in a man sacrificing her for all humanity? Or what woman wouldn’t want her powers to be tamed by Wolverine? Wow! Very sexy!

  70. I saw X3 opening day, before I reviewed alot of comments on the film both true and unture. However, I reserved judgement until I saw X3. As a X-men fan growing up I use to buy the comicS, play the games, and watch the saturday morning cartoon. Then a few years ago the movie came out and I felt that X-men in a live motion picture could perhaps strenghten or break the franchise. The first two films were enjoyable as X-men the story was told to (you) true to the comic. The third film takes a total new direction fom the previous films, cartoon and comics. This was a huge disapointment to X-men fans. I love action movies and I love the fact that this time around there was alot more action. However the storyline is more importnat then the action. The major disapointment in the film was the characters it seemed that they had no substance other then fight and be killed. As for the X-men, since when did X-men become X-man. LOGANS character was again the base of the X-men. Note this for future filmS the X-men are X-men there is NO (I) in X-men. Please stop centering the story around Logan, it almost seems that this film was made just to make a Weapons X franchise. What happend to Cyclops!!! How is it for three films he got the short end of the stick. He had no character developement in the film at all in none of the three films other then when Jean was in the picture. Cyclops in/ was? the leader of the X-men Logan is not he is better off as a loner that is what best explains him. How is it that every X-member got character screen time except Cyclops. I mean come on? How is it that Logan managed to get to Jean instead of Cyclops is he not the love of her life hello Cyclops could have at least done that. Personally, I tried to word my comments carefully and frankly I do not see any point in doing so. X-men the last stand should have been made diffrently. Or fox could have simply waited until Bryan Singer was done filming Superman. Let Brett do the Magneto and Logan’s Run films. I compare this film like someone giving cow dung aa a gift and calling it chocolate.

  71. Review of X-Men 3

Although the plot must continue about the mutants and humans being at odds and suspicion on each side brewing beneath the surface, it appears from the start that Professor X is losing the battle.

The movie starts with a visit to the powerful Jean Grey as a child. Even with this, you really do not develop a bond with her.

Even though she is called the Phoenix, she never sings her song and rises into the air into the firy shape of the Phoenix. (Maybe too expensive to make.) The only firy form you will get is a strain or your eyes at the end of X-Men 2.

She kills the man she loves in a twink of an eye without much remorse. And again against Prof X. (Did I read the wrong comic books?)

This is not the Jean Grey I remember, the one that became the Phoenix to save Scott and the other X-Men. (The original Pheonix continued to help the X-Men).

Wolverine is now invincible. He can heal his entire body almost in mili-seconds. If Pheonix were where she should have been, 40 feet in the air, he wouldn’t have been able to get near her.

I was pleased by the pace of this movie and especially Beast. I like the idea that Rogue has the opportunity to get rid of her powers. She does in the comic world anyway, just in a different way. Stealing others powers is not a wonderful power to have.

The scene of Wolverine and Phoenix going at it was an insult to her love to Scott.

In summary, this was a whole new Phoenix that I was unfamiliar with but had great hope of seeing not the Dark Phoenix, but the X-Man Phoenix. It was a dissapointment.

  72. Not biggest thing but what was this whole class crap. Is that from comics or did they pull this out of left field with some b.s. hollywood writer.

I was always under the impression that as you got older you developed your powers more and became more powerful. Also the “cure” was always a hoax in the comics cartoon’s, why would they make it real in the movie?

I liked the movie as a movie. But was completely let down following how the first two were done.

  73. I think of it this way.

The Cartoon on Fox is one universe, same characters.

The comic is another universe, same characters.

The movie is its own universe, same characters. I took this in consideration when I to see the x men movies and I enjoyed them alot.

I mean you don’t expect them to do the whole shi’ar empire thing while they are bringing back Jean. Come on. If you are a true fan then you will know that the things that happen in the comics will not translate easily on screen. I mean if you have seen da vinci code you will understand that some things are ment to be tweaked for the movies.

I loved this movie, I think it was the best one. Beast was amazing, shadow cat was cool, the angel thing was totally cool, Jean going nuts was fun to watch, storm vs callisto fun bitch slapp moment, shadowcat vs juggernaut, fun to watch. I didnt care if he was a mutant in the comics, do you think that someone who never picked up a comic would know that he was not a mutant? And would they explain that there was a jewel that gave him is strength. nooo.

so understand that the movie universe is different than the other type of media that they brought out.

  74. Does anyone know how Xavier showed up in the hospital bed in the scene after all the credits rolled?
Was it Jean Gray transporting him into someone else’s body just before Phoenix blew him apart?

  75. Hey there Jonah,

    You said:

“if u don’t follow the comics this movie is terrific only due to ignorance.if you do follow the comics this movie is a complete disappointment”

You’re wrong. I followed the X-Men for a lot of years, I’m a big fan of the comic. And yes… I really liked the movie.

I’m sure there are many people who share your opinion… however… many people, who also really know what they’re talking about… share mine as well.

    Cheers!

    ~John

  76. lets just cut through the chase here.if u don’t follow the comics this movie is terrific only due to ignorance.if you do follow the comics this movie is a complete disappointment.this movie was way too short allowing for little bits of action for lots and lots of caracters.angel did not need to be in this movie and no offence to brett(who is talented)poor editing was involved, its like he never saw the cartoon or picked up an x-men comic book.first 2 movies by bryan singer were awesome he did his homework,if they make x-men he needs to come back and bryan you have to have magneto rip out wolverines ademantium skeleton…i’m getting goose bumps just typing about it.to conclude this movie is okay go see it,however to all of you who follow the comics(those of you who don’t can stop reading)they can never make a simply perfect x-men movie unless they had a budget of about $800,000,000 and it was as long as a lord of the rings movie so I know how you feel about this movie, but ease up

  77. I have conflicting feelings about X-Men 3. On the one hand, X-3 was an enjoyable film. It had some good moments, great action, and some excellent special effects. But I can’t shake the feeling that it could have been much better.

Many things were great about it, particularly the casting of the characters. I loved Beast and Juggernaut. Kitty Pride was a nice addition. Mangeto was excellent as always. I was even surprised by Storm in this movie. I didn’t like her in the previous films, but she was significantly better in this film.

Many of the effects were good (e.g. the bridge scene) and there were some great fights. (Some effects bugged me though. Colossus, who the films really don’t have much of a handle on, doesn’t look very good armored up. Iceman doesn’t either. They seem to have this weird glow to them. It looks too much like a visual effect.)

Anyway, others have commented on the general aspects of the movie. At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, let me comment on my main problem with the film…

    (Spoiler Alert!)

The main problem I had with this film was that it just seemed to go for too easy and conventional of a story. The government versus mutants theme is an interesting one, as is the vaccine angle they chose to go with. But… that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still very similar to the (superior) X-Men 2 plot.

Phoenix was decent in the film, but I really feel they would’ve made a better film focusing on her. We didn’t even see the iconic firey phoenix symbol here. Phoenix is tipped so far toward the “uncontrollably evil and powerful” side of the scale that she’s not all that sympathetic, unlike the heart-wrenching and justifiably classic Phoenix Saga of the comics.

And again the films have no idea what to do with Cylcops. Yes, he can be an interesting character when handled right. Instead, they just kill him off in the first 10 minutes (well, we don’t see a body, so don’t be surprised if he’s back in X-4). The film’s short length means that only Wolverine even reacts to his death!

While I didn’t mind Storm that much in the film, the fact remains that (as Halle Berry portrays her) she’s a supporting character at best. The film would’ve been more interesting had Cyclops been leading the X-Men, particularly with his feelings for Jean. Why not have her kill him at the _end_ of the film, rather than the beginning? Then let Wolverine finish it up.

Don’t get me wrong. X-3 was a good film and I enjoyed it. However, X-2 was a _great_ film and it left X-3 with a terrific set-up that, let’s be honest, X-3 really didn’t make the best use of. I don’t fault Brett Ratner either (though he did make a mistake in editing the movie down to under 2 hours). There were plenty of fun, creative moments in the film that show his directing was a good fit for the series.

The main problem I think was the script. The first two first X-Men films had great scripts. This one had a mediocre script. Elavated by good directing and great acting, yes, but ultimately a mediocre script.

  78. This is not related to the review at all (sorry, but…), but is there a way to hide these posts where you’ve embedded clips? I’m sure I’m not the only person this happens to, but Firefox keeps giving me errors that the WMP plugin had a fatal error and, at other times, completely crashes the browser. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure that other people must also be having the same problem…

    Thanks!

  79. my two cent

Is this film a waste of time….kinda

The best character in this entire film would have to be Kitty Pride.

    Wolverine was to soft.

    Storm was forced on you.

Scott was forgettable since X-Men 1

Colossus – They dont know how to use the character.

Psylocke – Where the heck was she througout the film

Angel – No use to the X-Men

Pyro – Was one of my fave charaters in X2…awful in X3

Beast – Looks like a dog in a suit

    Mystique – Never liked her

Juggernaut – Was pretty good…better then Toad and Sabertooth

  80. i would agree that over-all, x-men 3 is a good addition to the first two x-men movies. i’m also an x-men fan from the comic books, and surely from the tradition of the comic books, the movie is quite satisfactory, though we can really never compare what is going on and what have been happening and all those stuffs in the comic books and incorporate it in the movie. the plots in the comic book and the storylines in the comic books are way too complicated for movie viewing audiences, and it would take them maybe a dozen of movies to really get into the storylines of the x-men and its characters. anyway, though i agree that the movie was short, it’s one nice satisfactory movie….

  81. I’ve been a huge X-Men fan ever since I was a child. I think this movie was the best of all of them. This movie was everything I wanted out of the first two, it was more enraged. Mutants actually used their powers in this one, and other than in some “convenient” situation that seemed way too staged. I believe if Brett Ratner had been the director from the beginning the series would have been alot more entertaining in terms of showing a larger number of mutants, and having them actually use their powers. I loved this movie, we finally get to see the X-men really use their abilities.

  82. As a true Xmen fan growing up reading and living all of the characters, I had high expectations for this film, especially after the last 2 exceeded my expectations. However this latest film proved disappointing in many areas and left me feeling very angry. Particularly because of the back story about why Brian Singer left the film to go on to make Superman. It apparantly was because of Halle Berry’s demands that she have a larger role in the film coincidentally right after she won an Oscar. Well, this film was no oscar worthy performance and in my opinion Brian Singer should return, direct X4 and FIRE HALLE BERRY!! She can go to hell! I have no ill will towards Brett Ratner, however he shouldn’t have cowed to Halle’s demands and should have just let her walk off the set with her effing oscar. She ruined this film for me and I will never see a film with her in it again! Where is the anger people???? If you curious about how it happened, see Halle’s interview below and read between the lines. I have lost total respect for her. I rolled my eyes when she demanded that Wolverine be about the “team” and not himself. How hypocritical.

    Here’s the interview:
Kam Williams: Hi Halle, were you responsible for your character Storm enjoying an expanded role in X-Men 3?

Halle Berry: This time around, I just asked, “Please, please, please, can Storm have a voice? It’s not about me having more, but, if I’m going to be on for ten minutes, can I say something important for ten minutes, because I think Storm does a little bit more in the comic books, and the fans aren’t happy.” And then Brett [director Brett Ratner] came on board. And it’s really due to Brett, because Brett felt the same way, that Storm needs a voice. And he saw to it that this time it actually happened.

  83. “This is the ultimate showdown, of utimate destiny. Good guys, bad guys and explosions, as far as the eye can see. And only one will survive, I wonder who it will be? This is the ultimate showdown, of ultimate destiny.”

    ‘Nuff said!

  84. Oh and another thing. The action in this movie was not that great. The special effects were awesome, but the action sucked. Go watch nightcrawler take out the whole friggin secret service in the second movie. Action is more than having super powerefull charicters hit eachother. Its about pace and a real sense of impact. In x2 wolverine guts somone and you almost shudder there’s such a grisly sense of his claws sliding in. In x3 he jabbs his claws at somone and they fall down and he keeps running.

  85. Imagine this movie without the first 2 exelent films to back it up.
It falls somewhere below helboy and above a steven segaul flick. Right in there with say,, MI 2.
Fead a donkey this cast , 2 great movies worth of charicter development, the story, and the loyal fanbase, then watch it shit a better movie.

  86. *POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE*

    John,

You make good points about human history and Magneto’s humanity shining through. However, I still believe the depth of each character was fairly weak. We could have gotten, perhaps, more flashback from Magneto in the concentration camps or something to show us more of his emotion or maybe some time else in the past that truly had an effect on his views towards Homo Sapiens.

But also – I did find it eerie that as he’s giving the speech to the rebellious mutants in the woods he seemed very much like Hitler to me – hand motions and all. Did anyone else get that?

As I reflect back on the film I enjoyed it more than I initially thought but I’m still upset by …

*AGAIN SPOILER ALERT JUST PLAIN DON’T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE FILM – YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED TWICE!!!*

… killing Xavier like that. In the comic book – Professor X rebinds the Phoenix in Jean Grey at least long enough for the X-Men and the Shi’ar Imperial Guard to weaken her enough so she can get blasted by an alien cannon. He doesn’t die – and that just pissed me off. Don’t get me wrong – the scene was gut wrenching I was on the edge of my seat rooting for Xavier, only to see him go out like that. It bugged me.

I agree with others that you can’t have the Phoenix saga in any form without Cyclops in there. As I said before these movies are wrongly centered around Wolverine – making him far closer to Jean then he really ever lets on in the comics. It should have been Cyclops talking her down and Wolverine brooding in the background over it. He was also the one in the comics who says the X-Men need to stop treating Phoenix like Jean Grey and that if they have to kill her he’d do it if no one else did.

Yes, this is fan boy stuff – but some of it goes to the essence of who these characters are, and that’s why this movie bugged me so much. I will go see it again, though, and see if I enjoy it better the second time around.

  87. After seeing this movie I felt like everything I had invested in the characters from the first two films was flushed down the toilet. It wasn’t witty, the new characters left no impression, and half the original characters die or lose their powers? This is supposed to make us want to see another X-men film???

  88. i dont agree with a lot of you. if you are a true x men fan then you must agree they ruined this film completely.

if you want an action movie then you can go and watch mission impossible three. These films have been taken from the cult cartoon from a lot of our child hoods and they have been butchered.

first of all juggernaught, wat a waste. he was one of the meanest villians in the cartoon and he was given a crap part in this film.
they didnt have him and colosus fighting at all in the film and that was the big thing in the cartoon. colosus was the only one that cud stop juggernaught. and he wasnt a mutant he had magical powers taken from a ruby so wen hes by leech he wouldnt of lost his powers.
The biggest mistake of all was the fact they never used him as charles xaviers brother it was as if they didnt know each other.

angel was a complete waste of time, you see him fly about 3 times in the movie and thats it.

they killed cyclops within 5 minutes of seein him. how can u kill the leader of the xmen i mean come on.

and then they had a ridulous group of bout 50 mutants, in there were psylocke, callisto, multipan man, supposidly emma frost and omage red but i didnt see them. they were all big characters in the cartoon but nothing’s in the film.

and then theres pyro, u dont see the kid munipulate any fire in any film. all he does is hold it as a ball in his hand. its like hes just got flame throwers on his arms and pyro was known for making big shapes out of fire in the cartoon.

if you like action films its a winner. if your a big x men fan it sucks.

lets just hope they can save it with x4 seein apocolypse and archangel.

  89. Hey Xman,

**Spoiler – Do Not Read If You Haven’t Seen The Movie Yet**

The brilliance in the X-Men movies is that not everything is black and white. There are various shades of grey… that’s real life.

The reason the X-Men decided to step in and stop Magneto was because he was>

#1) Already a wanted man for trying to kill the entire human race in X-Men #2

#2) He was trying to take away the rights of all mutants to chose for themselves if they wanted the “cure” or not.

#3) He was going to Kill the boy (Leech)

Those all seem like good reasons to me.

Magneto’s humanity shines through in this film more than in any of the rest. As you pointed out, he believed passionetly in what he was fighting for… but that in and of itself did not make him right. Almost all the atrocities commited in human history usually started with good intentions that were misplaced. Magneto was no different.

    Just my two cents worth.

    Cheers!

    ~John

  90. Hypocrisy abounds. I just got back from the film. I liked some of it, but found it hard to determine which side to root for, among other atrocities. The comics never left a doubt. In fact, in each of the hundreds of X-men comic books I read each one quite clearly spelled out who was the scoundrel and why. They never presumed it to be so.

The main premise, and unfortunately the only plotline in this film, was a seemingly clear-cut justification for action by some who felt threatened that they would be forced to change how God made them. In X-men 3 it would be easier to argue (as Wolverine ironically stated himself) that “often the best defense is a strong offense”. Why would he then immediately position himself against the obvious recourse of these justified freedom fighters Magneto assembles?

[possible spoiler, stop reading if you haven’t seen]
This is the first film where Magneto simply takes defensive actions to avoid being forcibly manipulated by mankind. I fail to see any justification for the X-men to step in and literally kill fellow mutants in an effort to make certain at all costs these “bad guys” are not allowed to destroy the “cure” they have coming to them. Of what interest is it of the X-men to stop them??? never explained. To then hypocritically engage Magneto and the audience is expected to cheer this action from our “heroes” wtf??

  91. So “fun flick” is almost like you’re giving it a backhanded compliment. I’ll give it a closed-handed bitch slap followed by an elbow from the top rope. What a piece of crap this movie is, especially compared to the last one. Since when is one of Wolverine’s mutant powers to grow a vagina?

  92. I have to agree with that review, not as good as it’s predecessors but good enought to have a good time. Further more they did not close the doors at the end. They leave a lot of room for sequels and if not prequels. However I always felt that there was so much about X-Men making a movie is harder because you have a group of super heros. It’s not like Superman or Spiderman that are easily focused on.

  93. John, thanks for the review. This is the first time I’ve visited the movie blog and I’m impressed by it.

I am bothered quite a bit by X-Men 3, for many reasons. I’ll try to get away from spoilers but there are just some things you don’t do to the X-Men and I think that happened here.

One thing that has always bugged me about these movies, also, is that they all seem centered around Wolverine’s character. What bugs me about that is that the X-Men are a team-based group and our central person seems to be the biggest loner. I also feel like they dumb down the sheer animosity of the Wolverine character.

Aside from that I am very impressed by the casting of these films. Kelsey Grammer as Beast was friggin’ awesome and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

The final fight sequence doesn’t have enough mutants showing off powers for it being a “war.” I did think this movie was too short but the ending of the battle sequence is amazing.

As always, the special effects of the X-Men franchise are top notch.

For all the talk that this was supposed to be the final X-Men movie the plot really was left quite open ended – in SO many ways.

  94. I just got back from it and i agree with most of what you said. The film was huge fun to watch and totally made up for the money i wasted on ‘The DaVinci Code’ last week. As a fan of the comics, the flick delivered some of the visual thrills that i’ve been waiting to see ever since they announced the first movie, moments that i really don’t think Bryan Singer would have given us if he’d stayed on.

My only beefs were that most of the dialogue and scenes were pure cheese (like the one where Storm rises to her feet and says “the school stays open” or something like that). Angel didn’t need to be in the film at all, and everything was wrapped up a little to nicely at the end.

Overall though, props to Mr. Ratner for overcoming some huge obstacles and making it happen.
