Sgt. Rock Movie

SGT-Rock MovieSeems like there are more comic adaptations than you can shake a stick at these days. Well here comes another one… only it’s a little bit different. There are no Superheroes or break heaving female martial arts vixens. It’s a soldier baby. Sgt. Rock. A WW2 DC comics character.

I’ve only ever read about 2 or 3 issues of Sgt. Rock and his easy company back in the day… but I actually think a film like this one would be a lot of fun. The good folks over at AICN give us this:

Last week SHAZAM! got announced and this morning we hear that SGT. ROCK is being pushed at Warners with new writer John Cox. Personally, I’m all for a good WW2 adventure. Joel Silver is producing, so you know it’ll be big and Silver actually isn’t afraid of the R-rating.

Some people are already whispering that Bruce Willis might get attached to this… which wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.

Is it just me… or was Arnold once supposed to be up for doing a Sgt. Rock movie like 15 years ago?

  1. they have to do a sgt. rock movie, bruce willis would be awesome, or clint eastwood lol, toooooooooooooooo old clint, bruce would be awesome, awesome, awesome. i hope it happens, make war no more, but please make a sgt. rock movie starring bruce willis

  2. John, I would not count this as “new”, as you mention, it has come out of development hell, and it has the same prodoco, Silver, attached, If there are quick rumors about Willis now, don’t totally dismiss them. Besides Arnie, Willis was also considered 15 years ago. The original drafts were also written by Steven deSouza, but the whole thing fell apart because of a trist between Silver and Larry Gordon.

I could see this happening, because even though as Doktorpee points out, there are many projects out there -including Wonder Woman, also with Silver’s name on it- but Rock is different. Case in point? Adapting the character and his unit isn’t much of a stretch- the most concern would be the expense on the period piece. Do you really think his military clothes will be changed to the dismay of comics fans? Come now.

  3. I read the Sgt. Rock comics (along with GI Combat) more than any super hero comics. I like the idea of Bruce Willis doing the role…but how about Mickey Rourke? I must be thinking that because the pic above reminds me of Marv.

  4. I concur, but Statham, like I, have a typical London accent…and he has a notably BAD “fake” american accent. Im not a fan of his when he pretends to be American. Regarding the film; too little too late in my opinion; the Comic-book-turned-movie genre is coming to a close with all the major films soaking up the cash!

  5. I was somewhat disappointed when this project was mentioned back in the late 80s or early 90s and never happened. Yeah, I remember Arnie being mentioned as a possible Rock and thought how strange that he’d be playing a GI who was fighting a bunch of people who talked just like him. Since Lance Henrikson is probably too old for the part, I’d like to see Jason Statham as Frank Rock; I don’t know how if he can pull off a Philly accent, but he’s got the look and the demeanor.
