Transformers changes

Prime_President.jpgUntil now we’d heard about some changes in dribs and drabs, but now seeing them all written down courtesy of Cinema Blend.

They go the same way I would on the changes in the Transformers movie, where we were first told Megatron wouldn’t be a gun but a cannon. Nothing really major, for size concerns perhaps a cannon or tank would be apt…but then today the other rumours started circulating.

…now according to AskMen.com increasing numbers of supposed “G1” characters are becoming victims of “reimagination”…

Soundwave [G1 – Cassette Desk] who played the role of spy with his cassette Transformers will now inexplicably become a helicopter?!?!?
Ratchet [G1 – Ambulance] the repairman and essentially “doctor” to injured Transformers will now become a firetruck?!?!?
Jazz [G1 – Martini Porche 935] will become some other generic sportscar – presumably because Porsche won’t allow licencing of Jazz’s original form.
Arcee [G1 – Cybertronian Car] will become a motorcycle (which she does in, surprise, the crappy 2004 “Transformers: Energon” remake!)

Oh dear. This doesn’t sound great at all. I mean we have to accept changes for a movie adaptation, especially since the original is so old…but some of these really make no sense. Like Blend say, perhaps the tape will become an iPod with a nice marketing campaign, but then again that would modernise it. How far is too much for the modernisation?

  1. Yes!

    Curse the Transformers!

    Death to the Transformers!

    Shogun Warriors rule!

    Ha!

((end of Sealer rant, and happy as hell that there is no audio edition this week, because twenty minutes would have been devoted to this subject alone!!))

  2. That’s great. They want to make a “live action” (sort of) movie based on a cartoon series that many people around the world have great memories of… so let’s get a director who never liked the cartoon, to begin with. Oh and he’s going to want to make it a kids movie. Then let’s change the characters so that they aren’t like the original. The fans or the original would LOVE IT, because it’s nothing that they’ve ever seen before (a concept that’s been abused all too often by Hollywood).

Sorry, for the sarcasm. I’ve had it bottled up for a while and I needed to get it out. I don’t really mind changes to the original material, as long as it’s good. However, it looks like the producers of this movie have no idea about the amount of people who would see this movie multiple times on the big screen, if it was done right.
