David Bowie is being rumoured to be in talks to appear in a thriller called The Prestige alongside such actors as Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine according to Yahoo news via Reuters.
Now let those names sink in for a moment, and I’ll pass the positive comment that Bowie is one of the leading lights of music and a living legend in that arena. However as an actor, he’s terrible. I’ve not seen him in a convincing role where he didn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Sure, there are degrees of sticking out, but he’s stuck out none the less. So pitching him alongside these names seems very ambitious to me, and very tough for him to pull off.
Does anyone think he’s actually played in a good role? No…that’s the wrong wording, of course he’s played in a good role, but has he actually acted well? Could he stand up to these actors?
such a grate article of david ,
we love u david
Can J LO act? Can Britney act? Could Ringo act? so its not fair to expect that Bowie can.
he was also good as a teleporting fbi agent in ‘twin peaks: fire walk w/ me,’ although he’s only in it for like a few minutes.
Bowie’s performance as Andy Warhol in “Basquiat” was sublimely fantastic. Granted, playing someone as oddly eccentric as Warhol may not have been too much of a stretch for Bowie, but, as far as i am concerned, he pulled it off superbly.
Hah. I remember Bowie’s performance in The Labrynth. Will he be wearing spandex and singing?
If Christopher Nolan can make Katie Holmes look “presentable” in Batman Begins, he sure can make veteran Bowie look decent for this supporting role. Look forward to here more from the picture!
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
The Hunger
playing himself in Zoolander.
And the two that Martha cites above.
Would I like it better if Sting returned to the screen? Maybe.
Besides, sounds like a supporting role.
The movie sucks, but Bowie is very natural and wonderful in The Linguine Incident. I also think he’s very good in The Man Who Fell to Earth – but then, since he’s playing an alien, it’s not much of a stretch.
