Germans film in Edinburgh

ScotlandFlag.jpgWell there are movies still coming to Scotland, and surprisingly from the film tax haven of Germany. According to the excellent newspaper The Scotsman – I say that because I met the online Editor recently, nice guy – a German film has been around Edinburgh and Scotland filming last month. It’s a movie that appears to be…

…described as a German Da Vinci Code crossed with Harry Potter

Now there’s an interesting sounding concept!

With a budget well in excess of £1 million, The Secret of the Stars, about an intrepid scientist and his bid to unravel the secret of a mysterious historic artefact, is likely to be a big hit in Germany.

German company Nova Productions has spent the last 23 days filming the entire adventure in Scotland, with car chases around the streets of the Capital mixed with high drama on a train in the Highlands. The production is expected to finish shooting today, after completing a car chase sequence around Arthur’s Seat.

Oh how did I miss that? Oh…because I live and work outside the center, that’s why! The great thing is that they’ve not missed out the local use of talent.

…the film features Scottish actor Bill Barclay…who appeared in Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York…has also appeared in several episodes of Taggart and other Scottish TV productions…

…Glasgow-based company La Belle Allee…

The company assisted with hiring cast and crew. See this is fantastic, and it’s what we need to keep the film industry alive here. That and the incentives to get the companies here in the first place in order to spend money. Why doesn’t out Goverment understand speculate to accumulate?
