Neve Campbell out of Scream 4

Oh dear me...Neve, you are so gorgeous...I think I just soiled myself.According to sources through Moviehole the lovely Neve Campbell will not be in the next Scream movie…

Apparently the one-time rising queen of scream was in talks with the Weinstein co. to give her lungs another work-out for a third sequel? She may have had the talks, but she won’t be returning, we can confirm today. Nope, Sidney’s done with masked men.

Don’t despair though. Just because Campbell won’t be back doesn’t doesn’t mean that two of her hot-water bottle sharing co-stars won’t be back, namely, the Arquettes.

Don’t despair? Scream without the character it is all based on just reeks of trying to keep the franchise alive. It’s been done before, trying to pass the story onto other characters in the series and it’s drastically gone downhill, but can Scream change that? It’s often had scripts that are much more clever, witty and sartirical than other stories in the same vein. Difficult one to call, but it’s a strong suggestion she won’t with one movie in post-production, one filming and four in pre-production she is quite busy!

  2. I cannot remember much of Neve in Scream 3 and what exactly her character did in it, but I remember enjoying S3. Actually I enjoyed all three movies. Really, I did.

I might watch a 4th movie and, as Franklin said, the plot would probably play on the cliches of stretching a horror movie series beyond its original cast. The key would be clever writing, and all three movies had that.

Trivia bit: Scream was not the original title. When the screenplay was first written, the title was… Scary Movie. And Miramax owns both the Scream and Scary Movie franchises.

  3. Unless Syd’s in the funny farm, Franklin’s comment above echoes mine.

But…what is the real point of Scream 4? I’m one of the few who liked Scream 3, but still, number 4 is pointless. Unless they worked that into the story too, as most horror films that go past three sequels become more pointless, an attempt to please ‘the fans’ when all that is accomplished is alienating them more.

    Or…the killer pretends the events in 2 and 3 ‘didn’t happen’…

  4. Her character became progressively uninteresting as the series went on.

They could make an in-joke about her not being in the fourth film, since the entire series is based on references to the horror movie genre and its cliches. And one of those cliches is spinning off a series with the secondary characters.
