Although not really “movie news” (although he did appear in a couple), it was with a really heavy heart this morning that I read about the passing of Bob Denver (Gilligan from Gilligan’s Island). The story said he died of cancer surrounded by his family at the age of 70.
Gilligan’s Island was a part of my childhood almost as much as The Flintstones. I used to watch reruns of the show everyday when I came home for lunch from school. It was also educational since I never knew that “Island” had an “s” in it (to this day I still don’t really know why it does).
Thanks to the show, Bob Denver is immortal and we will never forget him. There are now only 3 surviving castaways from the show (The Professor, Ginger and Mary-Ann). Sweet travels Bob… you will be missed.
Back to the Beach! He played little buddy in back to the beach with Frankie Avalon. Stupid but fun movie.
