Smurfs movie?!

Smurf.jpgHas the movie making world gone totally mad? Apparently, through Rope of Silicon from Newsweek, comes this incredible gem:

‘The Smurfs.’ The scoop: No release date yet. But “it’s in our plans,” says a rep from IMPS, which handles Smurf rights. Chatter bug: The project has been rumored since 2003, with Jeff Goldblum once listed as Gargamel.

Yes, you read it right. A live action version of The Smurfs cartoon…oh sweet lord, what the hell is going on with those “execs” the so called brains of Hollywood!

Think that’s daft? Hold on for this one…

‘Alvin and the Chipmunks.’ The scoop: Theodore, Simon and the red-hot lead singer will come to life—how else?—through CGI. Chatter bug: Remember the “Garfield” catastrophe? Can these has-beens pull off a hit?

Please, save us, and please tell me that you’re not rooting for these two?….Please?

  1. I think the studios wants them to be hits. I think the fans just want the movies to be good. I was heartbroken over the Scooby Doo movie, and was very disinterested in Garfield, although I will have to eventually watch it. I loved the Chipmunks cartoon, and will be sad if it isn’t at least a quality movie. Forget grosses or sequels, just make the first one good and the audience will find it.

  2. Dude a smurf movie? That’s the smurfing best thing I’ve heard in smurfing forever.

    [Family Guy reference.]

I was thinking today… boy I hope they never do a live action Calvin and Hobbes movie. There is no way they could ever pull it off. It’d suck. I feel that way about most comics, actually.

  3. My favorite one was the one where the village got tired of Jokey. His whole taint the well with gin which lead Hefty Smurf to accidentally OUT himself. The Smurfs ended up sending him on a quest to find that magical flower which was a trap, Papa had sent Gargamel a note saying he could have this one. I love how Jokey’s death was all done in silhouette. We never really saw what Gargamel did to Jokey, but at the end he had a nugget of gold. Man, that was a classic episode! It was funny and sad at the same time, he was SO convinced the others would come to rescue him.

  4. My favourite smurf episode guest starred Anna Nicole in this hilarious drunkfest in which she went to the tattoo parlour to have my hoo-hoo pierced and insisted her female assistant have the same thing done to her. Loved it! Best episode ever!
