Avi Arad talks of coming Marvel projects

MarvelTeam.jpgThanks to CHUD for the direction to the Marvel update on their site, there’s very small snippets of information to be had from an over zealous and very sales sounding Avi Arad on Marvel Films work.

Blade:…mentioned an “action television Blade show.”…
Fantastic Four:…is an action, comedy, adventure movie with an animated television series to follow…
…The cast of the first Fantastic Four movie is currently signed on for multiple films…
Ghost Rider:…will be rated PG-13…
…Avi Arad has confirmed that Peter Fonda is officially signed on (to play Mephisto)…
…expects a huge toy Line with radio controlled vehicles…
…states that for the record, “Eva Mendes is Hot!”…
…casting is fantastic, the budget is high, and even the fashion statements will be incredible…
X-Men 3:…the cast is in and a director announcement should be coming soon…
Wolverine:…is developing some incredible writers…
Spiderman 3:…is “well ahead of the game”…
Deathlok:…movie is a go with one of the best scripts in town, a “giant toyline” anticipated as well as an “amazing video game”…
…Jamie Foxx was being looked after for the project, before his Oscar win…put his decision on hold…
Sub-Mariner \ Namor:…is in “active development” with scripts being rewritten, and as Avi describes it – “Star Wars Underwater.”…
Iron Man:…just got a director in Nick Cassavetes, who is currently doing a rewrite…
…will be a “huge movie” and be like “G.I. Joe meets James Bond meets Tom Clancy.”…
…involved “cars, trains, jets, submarines, torpedoes”…
…still be “rounded in character”; a “dream machine.”…
Hulk 2:…currently in “active development” as well. Writers are being talked to as a new approach will be added to the sequel…
…excellent worldwide liscensing with Hulk bringing its success far beyond the movie…
Daredevil:…period of rest right now as they’re hoping for people to forget Elektra before moving on to a sequel…
Thor:…deal is just about done…

He closed with a comment which I really do think is a misprint.

Over the next 10 years, there won’t be a year with a new Marvel product or entertainment piece

I think that was supposed to be without!

Fantastic Four team signed on for multiple sequels? They’re hopeful. Considering they are admitting the travesty of Elektra but also avoiding the late rewrites and reshoots we talked about.

Oh, and the chat about Iron Man just makes me cringe. Sounds like it’s being set up for a fall.

All in all though there’s loads set to come out of Marvel, I hope they truly have learnt the Elektra lesson. Just check out the IMDB listing for Arad’s active projects:

  1. I can’t wait to see how IronMan comes together, hell yes.

But as for Fantastic Four – since when was it a … COMEDY?? A COMEDY!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO .. what the hell happened here… Comedy?! I guess that’s why Human Torch has those stupid one liners in the trailers. Good God.

  2. Iron Man is my favorite CB character from way back (not that I like the current and recent incarnations). The thing that struck me about Arad’s comments about that particular film was that there was NO mention of his armor….

    Vic

  3. Avi Arad is starting to sound like a used car salesman. After Blade: Trinity and Elektra tanking with the fans and the critics, a lot is riding on the FF film. I have to admit that my anticipation of the FF film is waning, and the more that I hear about it, the more I’m shaking my head. I just pray that Sam Raimi sticks around to direct Spider-Man 3 and they get a decent director for X3. Otherwise, Marvel’s movie future could be quite dim.

  4. They’ll be making movies based on bubble gum wrappers and cereal boxes next. Enough already. If only Dostoyevsky had pursued a novel about a monosyllabic, Russian crime fighter with silly fashion sense and bat dacha.

  5. “Fantastic Four…is an action, comedy…”

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

“Ghost Rider…will be rated PG-13…’Eva Mendes is Hot!’…even the fashion statements will be incredible…”

    Rolls eyes.

“Deathlok…Jamie Foxx was being looked after for the project, before his Oscar win…put his decision on hold…”

Is Foxx taking a warning from Halle Berry?

    “Sub-Mariner \ Namor…is ‘Star Wars Underwater’.”

    I have a bad feeling about this…

“Daredevil…period of rest right now as they’re hoping for people to forget Elektra before moving on to a sequel…”

Translation: Who wants a sequel to a movie nobody wanted to begin with?
