In 1967 there was a story in the SpiderMan comic (#50) called “Spiderman No More” in which Peter Parker struggles with his dual identity. This of course was a possible title for the sequel. The cover art for this issue is clearly an obvious inspiration to Sam Raimi as a nearly identical scene was featured predominately in the Trailers.
This is why I feel that Raimi is by far the best choice to do the Spiderman films. He is a fan. Before he was a producer, before he was a director. Before he got out of school. He was a fan. Always has been.
He WON’T mess up the Spiderman franchise. He can’t. He wants to see it done right just as badly as fanboys like me.
Other Comicbook movie producers/directors etc would rather have a take on the comic book that THEY think will sell. (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Catwoman – you know it will suck) They don’t get it. We don’t want to see another artistic interpretation on the stories we read in the comics. We want to SEE the COMICS.
They all figure we wont want to see a movie that is the same as what we read. Well DUH! YES WE DO!!
And for the cross sales of comics that inevitably rises due to the movie publicity, keeping true to the source material is the ONLY way to go.
Strange how the “fan approved” comic book movies are the ones that sell the best. Time will tell if the Superhero Movie makers will “get it”

However, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d seen that suit-in-the-trash-can image before so I started poking around and found that the image is actually a panel from *inside* that issue (not the cover).
BTW, I thought that Raimi did a fantastic job w. Spidey 2.
FYI … that’s not the cover art to Amazing Spiderman #50, it’s a relatively new John Romita Sr. lithograph paying homage to the storyline of Amazing #50 and created in conjunction with the Spiderman 2 movie hype.
hey uh bud. Nice post. I dont think sams spidermans bigget fan. How would you measure that. But aside from that. The movie aint perfectly true to the comics bro. Its close. Sure as hell is as close as it can successfully get while impressing both fans and newcomers. But it’s no carbon copy. *shrugs* i dont know if what i said made sence but just so you know I’m NOT trashing you man. Just makin talk.
