Holy crap do Asians ever tell good ghost stories. I’m not generally a horror movie fan but I make a HUGE exception for Asian ghost films because there have been some goooooood ones lately (The Ring, The Eye, Dark Water, Juon) and it looks like there are a couple more coming down the pipe.
First up is a Vietnamese film called Spirits that looks to have been shot independently in the US. It just premiered out on the west coast and the trailer is all creepy atmosphere … sweet stuff … check it out here.
Secondly is Tomobiki from Japan that looks to be carrying on the fine tradition of creepy as hell Japanese films … seriously, there’s a scene towards the end of this trailer that’ll have you taking a wee jump back from your screen … trailer’s the third link from the bottom in the left hand column. You’ll find it. You’re clever. Website’s here.
Asians are best in this category. The stories are always original with lots of myths involved. Double vision is a good example.
One good Korean scary movie is the phone. The ending is great

hey… can’t read Japanese dude!!!
Just had a look and the Nightmare DVD is only $10.99/¬£6.24 through yesasia. Its also part of the ‘buy 3 and get them for $7.99’ offer.
Just found out Tomobiki is the Japanese title of a Korean film called Nightmare that’s just hitting theaters in Japan … apparently there’s already a Korean DVD out there …
Holy crap that was creepy – I like it!
have to say I agree… I am starting to get really hacked off with the pilfering whore that is holywood feeling the need to keep remaking those films for people who “don’t do subtitles”, annoyingly like some of my friends.. blatantly refuse to watch subtitled films?!?! why!??!!?
Whoa! That Tomobiki flick looks great! Thanks for that!
Great blog, by the way.
